Psalter Kathisma 1 read in Russian. Psalter

This psalm instructs us regarding good and evil, revealing to us life and death, blessing and curse, so that we can choose the right path that leads to happiness and avoid what is sure to end in disaster and death. The differences in the character and condition of godly men and ungodly men—those who serve God and those who do not serve Him—are clearly presented in a few words, and therefore every man, if he will but be just to himself, may here see his own face and read his own destiny. . A similar division between the children of men into saints and sinners, righteous and unrighteous, children of God and children of the wicked, both in ancient times and since the struggle between sin and grace began - between the seed of the woman and the seed of the serpent - continues until so far.

Such divisions, as well as those of the noble and the despised, the rich and the poor, the free and the slave, will continue, for by these qualities the eternal position of man will be determined, and therefore distinctions will exist as long as there is heaven and hell. This psalm shows us, I. The holiness and happy state of the godly man (v. 1-3),

II. The sinfulness and misery of the wicked (v. 4, 5),

(III.) The reason and reasons for both (v. 6). He who collected the psalms of David (perhaps it was Ezra) had good reason to put this psalm first as a preface to all the rest, for in order for our prayers to be accepted, it is absolutely necessary to be righteous before God (for only the prayer of the righteous is acceptable To him). Therefore, we must have a correct idea of bliss and be able to correctly choose the path that leads to it. He who does not follow good paths is not fit to offer good prayers.

Verses 1-3. The psalmist begins this psalm with a description of the character and state of a godly person, so that those who are such may first receive comfort from him. Here it is.

I. Here is a description of the spirit of a godly man, and the ways in which we should evaluate ourselves. The Lord knows by name those who belong to Him, but we must know them by their character. For it is quite acceptable to be in a state of testing, that we may be able to examine whether we are conformed to that character, which is both the command of the law which we are obliged to obey, and the promised state to which we are to strive. The character of a godly man is here described by the principles of life which he chooses and by which he evaluates himself. Our financial situation depends on what path we choose at the beginning and then at each subsequent turn in life - whether it is the path of this world, or the path of the Word of God. Error in the choice of banner and leader is fundamental and fatal; but if we do the right thing, we are on the right path.

1. To avoid evil, a godly man absolutely renounces the company of the wicked, and does not follow their ways (v. 1). He does not walk in the counsel of the wicked. This trait of his character comes first, since he who wants to keep the commandments of God must say to the wicked: “Get away from me...” (Ps. 119:115). Wisdom begins when a person moves away from evil.

(1) He sees the wicked around him; the whole world is teeming with them; they are on both sides. Here they have three characteristics: wicked, sinners, corrupters. Notice by what steps people reach the pinnacle of dishonor. Nemo repente fit turpissimus. – No one reaches the pinnacle of vice right away. At first they become wicked, refusing to do their duty to God, but they do not stop there. When the service of religion is left aside, people go to sinners, or, in other words, they openly declare their opposition to the Lord, and begin to serve sin and Satan. Missing services opens the way for violations of the law, as a result of which the heart becomes hardened and, ultimately, they become corrupters, that is, they openly challenge everything that is holy, ridicule religion and joke about sin. This is the downward path of iniquity: the bad become even worse, sinners begin to tempt others and promote Baal. The word we translate wicked signifies a man who is not settled in his choice, who is not aiming at a definite end, or living according to a definite principle, but follows the dictates of every lust and the command of every temptation. The word translated sinner means a person who has chosen a sinful lifestyle and makes it his trade. The corrupters are those who open their mouths against heaven. The pious one looks at such with sadness; they cause constant irritation in his righteous soul.

(2) The pious avoids their company as soon as he sees them. He does not act as they do; and, in order not to be like them, does not communicate with them.

He does not attend the council of the wicked, nor is he present at their meetings or consult with them, even if they are smart, cunning and educated. He does not take part in their counsel or business, nor does he speak as they do (Luke 23:51). He does not evaluate everything by their standards and does not act as they advise. The wicked are always ready to speak out against religion, and they do it so skillfully that we have reason to consider ourselves lucky if we have escaped the possibility of being polluted and falling into a trap.

The pious does not stand in the way of sinners; he avoids doing as they do; he does not follow their ways; he will not take this path or follow it like a sinner who takes an evil path (Ps. 36:5). He avoids (as much as possible) being in their presence. In order not to become like them, he does not communicate with sinners and does not make them his friends. He does not stand in their way, lest he be in their company (Prov. 7:8), but keeps as far away from them as possible, as from a place or person infected with the plague, for fear of being infected (Prov. 4:14,15). Anyone who wants to be kept from evil must stay away from evil ways.

The godly does not sit in the assembly of the corrupt; he does not rest with those who sit quietly, living in vice, and please themselves by lulling their conscience. He does not associate with those who plot to find ways and means to support and advance the kingdom of the devil, or openly condemn the generation of the righteous. The place where drunkards gather is the assembly of wicked people (Ps. 68:13). Blessed is the man who has never been there (Hosea 7:5).

2. A godly man, in order to do good and cling to it, submits to the leading of the Word of God and studies it (v. 2). This is what keeps him from the path of the wicked and strengthens him in the fight against temptation. “…According to the word of Your mouth, I have kept myself from the ways of the oppressor” (Ps. 16:4). We do not need the friendship of sinners either for pleasure or for development, as long as we have the Word of God, communication with God himself and through His Word. “...When you awaken, they will talk with you” (Prov. 6:22). We can judge our spiritual state by answering the question: “What does God’s law mean to me? How do I feel about him? What place does he occupy in me? Note here, 1. The feelings which a godly man feels towards the law of God; but his will is in the law of the Lord. He enjoys it, despite the fact that it is a yoke, since it is the law of God, which is holy, just and good, and therefore he agrees with it and, according to the inner man, takes delight in the law of God (Rom. 7:16,22). He who loves God must also love the Bible - the revelation of God, His will and the only path to happiness that can be found in God.

(2.) A deep knowledge of the Word of God, which a godly man maintains: he meditates on His law day and night. From this it follows that he delights in the law, for we often think about what we love (Ps. 119:97). To meditate on the law of God is to have a conversation with ourselves concerning the great truths contained therein, with the mind engrossed and the thoughts concentrated, until those thoughts properly influence us and we experience their influence and power in our hearts. We must do this day and night. We must have the constant habit of looking to the Word of God as a guide to our actions and a source of comfort, and accordingly to have it in our thoughts in relation to every situation that occurs, whether it be day or night. Any time is a good time to meditate on the Word of God. Not only must we meditate on the Word of God morning and evening, at the beginning of the day and at the end, but these thoughts must also be present in us when we do business and socialize every day, when we rest or slumber every night. “When I awaken, I am still with You.”

II. The assurance of the happiness of a godly man, with which we should encourage ourselves as we strive to conform to that character.

1. In a general sense he is blessed (Ps. 5:1). God blesses him and this blessing makes him happy. To the pious belong all kinds of bliss and blessings from both upper and lower sources; and this makes him absolutely happy; he lacks no ingredient of happiness. When the psalmist undertakes to describe a blessed man, he describes a godly one, for only that man can be truly happy who is truly holy; and we are more concerned with knowing the path to happiness than with realizing what that happiness will consist of. Moreover, godliness and holiness are not only the ways to happiness (Rev. 22:14), but they are happiness itself. Imagine that after this life there is no other, nevertheless, happy is the person who adheres to the right path and fulfills his duty.

2. In this psalm, beatitude is illustrated by comparisons (v. 3): “And he will be like a tree ...” - bearing fruit and blossoming. This is the result (1.) of his godly life. He meditates on the law of God, turns it into succum et sanguinem, into sap and blood, and this makes him like a tree. The more we meditate on the Word of God, the better equipped we are for every good word and deed. Or (2) it is the result of the promised beatitudes; he is blessed by the Lord and therefore will be like a tree. Divine blessings produce effectual results, and this is the happiness of the godly man.

It is planted by the grace of God. These trees were in their nature wild olives, and they would remain so until they were re-grafted and thus replanted by a power from above. No good tree can grow by itself; it is the planting of the Lord, and therefore He is to be glorified in it. The Lord's plants are full of life (Isa. 61:3).

The fact that the godly is placed by the means of grace is indicated by the words “by the streams of water,” which make glad the city of God (Ps. 46:5). From them he receives additional strength and energy, but in secret, indistinguishable ways.

All his activities will bear abundant fruit (Phil 4:17). The first thing God said to those whom He blessed was, “Be fruitful...” (Gen. 1:22), and to this day the comfort and honor of bearing fruit is compensation for the labor expended. Those who enjoy the mercies of grace, both in the frame of mind and in the course of life, are supposed to accomplish the purposes of that grace and bear fruit. And, note, to the glory of the great Husbandman who tends this vineyard, they bear fruit (that is, what is required of them) in due time, when it is the best time and they are needed, taking advantage of every opportunity to do good, and do it in right time.

The confession of the righteous will not have any shortcomings and will be preserved from fading: “... and whose leaf does not wither.” Regarding those who bear only the leaves of confession, but have no good fruit, it can be said that their leaves will wither and they will be ashamed of their confession to the same extent as they were proud of it. But if the Word of God governs the heart, it will keep the profession green, both for our comfort and reputation; and the crown thus earned will never fade.

This prosperity will follow the pious wherever he goes. Whatever he does, following the law, his business will prosper; it will touch his mind and surpass his hope.

Singing these verses, which have duly affected the evil and dangerous nature of sin, and the extraordinary excellencies of the divine law, and the power and efficiency of God's grace by which we have fruit, we should teach and exhort ourselves and others to be on guard against sin and not to approach it. , to have more fellowship with the Word of God, to bear the abundant fruits of righteousness, and by praying for them, to seek God and His grace to strengthen us against every evil word and deed, and to equip us for good words and good works.

Verses 4-6. These verses read:

I. Description of the wicked (v. 4).

(1.) In a general sense they are the very opposite of the righteous, both in character and position: "not so the wicked." The Septuagint emphatically repeats these words: “Not so the wicked”; they are not. That is, they are guided by the counsel of the wicked, they stand in the way of sinners and sit in the seat of the wicked. They take no delight in the law of God, and do not even think about it; they bear no good fruit, but only the wild berries of Sodom; they are a hindrance to everything around them.

(2) More specifically: While the righteous are like a valuable, useful, and fruitful tree, the wicked are like dust blown about by the wind. They look like the lightest husk - dust, which the owner of the threshing floor tries to get rid of, since it is of no use. So is it worth valuing the wicked? Is it worth weighing them? They are like dust and do not deserve God to pay attention to them at all, no matter how highly they value themselves. Would you like to know the mindset of their mind? They are frivolous and superficial; they have neither essence nor solidity; they easily succumb to any trend and temptation and have no resilience. Do you know their end? The wrath of God will drag them deeper into wickedness, just as the wind drives further and further the chaff that no one collects and which no one needs. The husks may remain among the wheat for some time. But the time is approaching when He will come, in whose hand the spade is in His hand, and He will cleanse His threshing floor. And those who, by their own sin and stupidity, have made themselves like husks, will find themselves in the midst of the hurricane and fire of divine wrath (Ps. 34:5) and will not be able to resist or hide from it (Isa. 17:13).

II. In verse 5 we read about the fate of the wicked.

(1) By the verdict of the court they will be expelled as convicted traitors. The wicked will not stand in judgment. That is, they will be declared guilty; they will bow their heads in shame and embarrassment, and all their pleas and excuses will be rejected as insignificant. There will come a judgment in which the character and deeds of every man, no matter how skillfully they may be hidden and disguised, will be justly and absolutely revealed, and they will appear in their true color. And in accordance with this, the future position of man in eternity will be determined through the pronouncement of an irreversible sentence. The wicked will appear in this judgment to receive punishment for the deeds they have committed physically. They may hope to come out of it safely, perhaps even with honors, but their hope will deceive them. The wicked will not stand in judgment. Clear evidence will be brought against them, and the trial will be fair and impartial.

(2) The wicked will be forever separated from the company of the blessed. They will not be present in the assembly of the righteous, that is, during the judgment, among those saints who, together with Christ, will judge the world, among those myriads of saints, with whom He will execute judgment on everyone (Jude 14; 1 Cor. 6:2). Or does it mean heaven? Very soon sinners will be able to see the general assembly of the Church of the firstborn, the assembly of the righteous - all the saints, only the saints who have become perfect. It will be a meeting the like of which has never been seen in this world (2 Thessalonians 2:1). But there will be no place for the wicked in this assembly. Nothing unclean or unsanctified will be able to enter the new Jerusalem. They will see the righteous entering this kingdom and themselves, to their eternal displeasure, driven out (Luke 13:27). Here on earth the wicked and blasphemers have mocked the righteous and their congregations, despised them, and shunned their company, so it is only right that they be separated from them forever and into eternity. In this world, hypocrites, disguising their true confession, could sneak into the assembly of the righteous and remain there undisturbed and undetected, but Christ cannot be deceived like His servants. The day is approaching when He will separate the sheep from the goats and the wheat from the tares (see Matt. 13:41,49). This “great day,” as the Chaldeans here call it, will be a day of revelations, demarcations, and final divisions.

Then you will be able to give an answer and distinguish between the righteous and the wicked, which is sometimes difficult to do here (Mal. 3:18).

III. The reason for the different states of the godly and the wicked is interpreted (v. 6).

(1.) To God must belong all the glory of the prosperity and happiness of the righteous. They are happy because the Lord knows the path of the righteous; He chose them for this path, persuaded them to choose this path, leads and guides them along this path and predetermines all their steps.

(2) Sinners must bear the full shame of their destruction. The wicked will perish because the path they have chosen leads straight to destruction; it is by its nature directed towards destruction and therefore must end in death. Or we can interpret this verse this way. The Lord approves and He likes the path of the righteous; and therefore, under the influence of His gracious smile, this path prospers and ends well. But the Lord is angry, looking at the way of the wicked; everything they do offends Him; and therefore this path leads to destruction, and sinners stand on it. Of course, every human judgment comes from the Lord, and therefore our condition until eternity - whether we are prosperous or not - depends on how God treats us. So let us support the sad spirit of the righteous, reminding them that the Lord knows their way and their hearts (Jeremiah 12:3), knows their secret prayers (Matthew 6:6), knows their character and how often people reproach, blaspheme, slander them, and that very soon He will show the world the righteous and their path to eternal joy and honor. And let the knowledge that the path of sinners, although pleasant now, will ultimately lead to destruction, deprive the wicked of peace and joy.

Let us, as we chant and pray these lines, be filled with a holy fear of being subjected to the fate of the wicked, and march vigorously against him, having a firm expectation of the judgment to come; let us encourage ourselves to prepare for it with holy caution, to be worthy in all things in the sight of God, beseeching His favor with all our hearts.

Psalm 1.

Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, and does not stand in the ways of sinners, and does not sit in the seats of the destroyers, but his will is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he learns day and night. And it will be like a tree planted by the rising waters, which will yield its fruit in its season, and its leaf will not fall off, and everything that is created will prosper. Not like wickedness, not like this, but like dust, which the wind sweeps away from the face of the earth. For this reason, the wicked will not rise to judgment, below the sinner to the council of the righteous. For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, and the way of the wicked will perish.

Psalm 2.

Where are the nations reeling, and people learning in vain? The kings of the earth appeared, and the princes gathered together against the Lord and against His Christ. Let us break their bonds and cast their yoke away from us. He who lives in Heaven will laugh at them, and the Lord will mock them. Then he will speak out against them with his wrath and will crush me with his wrath. And I am appointed King by Him over Zion, His holy mountain, proclaiming the commandment of the Lord. The Lord spoke to Me: You are My Son, I have given birth to You today. Ask of Me, and I will give You the tongues of Your inheritance, and Your possession the ends of the earth. I have protected you with a rod of iron, as I have crushed the vessels of the wicked. And now, kings, understand, punish all who judge the earth. Work for the Lord with fear and rejoice in Him with trembling. Accept punishment, lest the Lord become angry and perish from the righteous path, when His wrath will soon flare up. Blessed is all-hoping Nan.

Psalm 3.

Lord, why have you multiplied the cold? Many people rise up against me, many people say to my soul: there is no salvation for him in his God. But You, Lord, are my Protector, my glory, and lift up my head. With my voice I cried to the Lord, and He heard me from His holy mountain. I fell asleep and fell asleep, and arose, as if the Lord would intercede for me. I will not be afraid of the people around me who attack me. Resurrect. Lord, save me, my God: for Thou hast struck down all those who were at enmity with me in vain, Thou hast crushed the teeth of sinners. Salvation is the Lord's, and Your blessing is upon Your people.

Glory:

Psalm 4.

Once upon a time, the God of my righteousness called me, Hearing me, You spread me out in sorrow, be gracious to me and hear my prayer. Sons of humanity, how long will the heaviness last? Have you always loved vanity and are looking for lies? And bear in mind that the Lord has surprised His venerable one: the Lord will hear me whenever I cry to Him. Be angry, and do not sin, as you say in your hearts, be moved on your beds. Devour the sacrifice of righteousness and trust in the Lord. Many people say: who will show us good? The light of Your face shines upon us, O Lord. He gave joy to my heart: he multiplied from the fruit of wheat, wine and oil. In peace together I will fall asleep and rest, for You, Lord, alone have given me hope.

Psalm 5.

Inspire my words, O Lord, understand my title. Hear the voice of my prayer, my King and my God, as I will pray to You, O Lord. Tomorrow hear my voice, tomorrow I will appear to You, and you will see me. For You are not a God who wills iniquity: the wicked will not dwell in You; the wicked will remain lower before Your eyes: You have hated all those who practice iniquity. Destroy all those who speak lies: the Lord abhors a man of blood and flattery. But through the multitude of Thy mercy, I will enter into Thy house, I will bow to Thy holy temple, in Thy passion. Lord, guide me with Your righteousness, for the sake of my enemy, straighten my path before You. For there is no truth in their mouths, their heart is vain, their throat is open, their tongues are flattering. Judge for them, O God, that they may fall away from their thoughts; for the multitude of their wickedness, I will rid them of them, for I have grieved Thee, O Lord. And let all who trust in You rejoice, may they rejoice forever, and may they dwell in them, and may they who love Your name boast in You. For you have blessed the righteous, O Lord; for you have crowned us with weapons of favor.

Psalm 6.

Lord, do not reprove me with Your wrath; do not punish me with Your wrath. Have mercy on me, Lord, for I am weak; heal me, Lord, for my bones are crushed. And my soul was greatly troubled: and You, Lord, how long? Turn, O Lord, deliver my soul: save me for the sake of Thy mercy. For in death I will not remember You; in hell, who will confess to You? “I am weary with my sighing, I will wash my bed every night, I will wet my bed with my tears. My eye is troubled with wrath, having vowed against all my enemies. Depart from me, all you who do iniquity, for the Lord has heard the voice of my weeping; the Lord has heard my prayer, The Lord accepts my prayer. May all my enemies be ashamed and confused, may they return and be ashamed very soon.

Glory:

Psalm 7.

Lord my God, I trust in You, save me from all those who persecute me and deliver me: lest when a lion snatches away my soul, I am not the one who delivers, nor the one who saves. Lord my God, if I have done this, if there is unrighteousness in my hand, if I have rewarded those who repay evil, then I will fall away from my enemies. Let the enemy marry my soul, and let him comprehend and trample my belly into the ground, and place my glory in the dust; rise, O Lord, by Thy wrath; let Thy enemy be exalted in the end, and arise, O Lord my God, by the commandment which Thou hast commanded. . And a host of people will bypass Thee, and about this, to the opposite height, the Lord judges people: judge me, Lord, according to my righteousness, and according to my kindness towards me. May the malice of sinners end, and correct the righteous, test the hearts and bellies of God in righteousness. My help comes from God, who saves the right in heart. God the Judge is righteous and strong and patient, and does not bring wrath every day. If you do not turn, He will cleanse His weapons, He will make His bow tense and ready, and in it He will prepare the vessels of death, He will make His arrows burnt up. Behold, by unrighteousness, sickness was conceived, and iniquity was born: a ditch of destruction, and an fossil, and it will fall into the pit that it has made. His illness will turn on his head, and unrighteousness will come down on his head. Let us confess to the Lord in His righteousness and sing to the name of the Lord Most High.

Psalm 8.

O Lord, our Lord, for Thy name is wonderful throughout the whole earth, for Thy splendor is taken above the heavens, from the mouth of a child and of those who piss, Thou hast uttered praise, Thy enemy for the sake of destroying the enemy and the local. For I will see the heavens, the works of Your finger, the moon and the stars, which You founded. What is man, since you remember him? Or son of man, because you visit him? You made him less than an angel, and you crowned him with glory and honor. And Thou didst put Thy hand over his work; Thou didst subdue all things under his nose. All sheep and oxen, also Polish cattle, birds of the air, and fish of the sea, the passing paths of the sea. O Lord our Lord, how wonderful is Your name throughout all the earth.

Glory:

According to the 1st kathisma, Trisagion, Most Holy Trinity..., Our Father....

And this troparion, voice 1: Having been conceived in iniquity, I, the prodigal, do not dare to look at the heights of Heaven, but, daring in Thy love for mankind, I call: God, cleanse me, a sinner, and save me. Even if a righteous man barely escapes, where will I appear, a sinner? I did not bear the hardships and heat of the day, but with the mercenaries of the eleventh hour, join me, O God, and save me.

Glory: Open the Father's embrace to me, I have spent my life in fornication, look at the unexpected riches of Your bounties, O Savior, do not despise my now impoverished heart. For you, Lord, I call with tenderness: those who have sinned in Heaven and before You.

And now: Hope of Christians, Most Holy Virgin, Whom You gave birth to God above mind and word, pray unceasingly with heavenly powers to grant forgiveness of sins to all of us and correction of life, by faith and love to those who ever revere Thee.

Lord, have mercy (40) and prayer:

Master Almighty, Incomprehensible, the beginning of light and the supreme power, who is the Father of the Hypostasis Word and the Emitter of Your One and Only Spirit: merciful for the sake of mercy and ineffable goodness, not despising human nature, the darkness of sin, but the Divine lights of Your sacred teachings, the law and prophets shining to the world, follow May Your Only Begotten Son be pleased to shine forth in His flesh and instruct us in the illumination of Your enlightenment: may Your ears be attentive to the voice of our prayer, and grant us, O God, in a vigilant and sober heart, to pass through the whole night of this present life, awaiting the coming of Your Son and God ours, the Judge of all, let us not recline and sleep, but be awake and lifted up in the doing of Thy commandments, and let us be found in His joy, where those who celebrate the unceasing voice and the ineffable sweetness of those who behold Thy face, the unspeakable kindness. For You are a Good and Lover of Mankind, and we send glory to You, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages, amen.

Translation by Professor Pavel Aleksandrovich Yungerov

1. Psalm of David

Blessed is the man who did not go to the meeting of the wicked, and did not stand in the way of sinners, and did not sit in the company of destroyers, but in the law of the Lord is his will and he will study His law day and night. And he will be like a tree planted by springs of water, which yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not fall away. And whatever he does will be successful. Not so wicked, not so: but like dust that the wind sweeps from the face of the earth! Therefore the wicked will not rise up into judgment, nor sinners into the congregation of the righteous. For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.

2. Psalm of David.

Why do peoples and tribes worry and plot futile things? The kings of the earth appeared, and the princes gathered together against the Lord and against His Christ, (saying, “Let us break their bonds and throw off their yoke from us.” He who dwells in heaven will laugh at them, and the Lord will humiliate them. Then He will speak to them in His anger and in His wrath will crush them. But I have been appointed by Him as king over Zion, His holy mountain, to proclaim the commandment of the Lord. The Lord said to me: “You are My Son, today I have begotten You. Ask of Me, and I will give You the nations for Your inheritance and the ends of the earth for Your possession." Yours. Thou shalt rule them with a rod of iron, even as thou shalt break them in pieces." And now, O kings, understand, learn, all ye judges of the earth. Work for the Lord with fear and rejoice in Him with trembling. Make use of the teaching, lest the Lord be angry, and ye perish from the right path, when His wrath will soon be kindled.Blessed are all who trust in Him.

3. Psalm of David when he fled from Absalom his son.

God! How my persecutors have multiplied! Many are rebelling against me. Many say to my soul: “There is no salvation for him in his God.” But You, Lord, are my intercessor, my glory, and You lift up my head. I cried out to the Lord with my voice, and He heard me from His holy mountain. I fell asleep, slept and arose, for the Lord will protect me. I will not be afraid of the multitude of people attacking me all around. Arise, Lord! Save me, my God! For Thou hast struck down all those who were in vain at enmity against me, and hast broken the teeth of sinners. Salvation is from the Lord, and Your blessing is upon Your people.

4. To the end. Song. Psalm of David.

When I called, the God of my righteousness heard me. In sorrow You gave me space. Have mercy on me and hear my prayer! Sons of men! How long will you persist? Why do you love vanity and seek lies? Know that the Lord made His venerable one wondrous. The Lord will hear me when I cry to Him. When you are angry, do not sin; whatever you speak about in your hearts, lament on your beds. Offer the sacrifice of righteousness and trust in the Lord. Many say: who will show us good? The light of Your face has been imprinted on us, O Lord. You have given joy to my heart, and they have become rich from the fruit of wheat, wine and oil. I will quickly fall asleep in peace and calm down, for You, Lord, have instilled only me with hope.

5. About the inheritor. Psalm of David.

God! Hear my words, understand my appeal. Hear the voice of my prayer, my King and my God, for I will pray to You, O Lord. In the morning hear my voice, in the morning I will appear before You, and You will see me. For You are God, Who does not like iniquity, and the evil one will not dwell with You. And the wicked shall not abide in Your sight; You have hated all those who commit iniquity. You will destroy all who speak lies; the Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and the flattering. And I, according to the abundance of Your mercy, will enter Your house, I will worship Your holy temple in Your fear. God! Instruct me in Your righteousness, for the sake of my enemies, straighten my path before You. For there is no truth in their mouth, their heart is vain, their throat is an open grave, they flatter with their tongue. Judge them, O God! Let them give up their plans; for the multitude of their wickedness cast them down, for they have grieved Thee, O Lord. And may all those who trust in You rejoice, may they rejoice forever, and may You dwell in them, and may those who love Your name boast in You. For You will bless the righteous, O Lord: You have protected us with favor as with a weapon.

6. To the end. Song. About the eighth (day). Psalm of David.

God! Do not rebuke me in Your wrath, and do not punish me in Your anger. Have mercy on me, Lord, for I am weak; Heal me, O Lord, for my bones are shaken. And my soul is greatly indignant. And You, Lord, until (show me help)? Turn, O Lord: deliver my soul, save me according to Your mercy. For none of the dead remembers You, and in hell who will confess You? I am weary because of my groanings, every night I wash my bed, I water my bed with my tears. My eye is darkened by wrath; I am worn out among all my enemies. Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity, for the Lord has heard the voice of my crying. The Lord heard my prayer, the Lord accepted my prayer. May all my enemies be ashamed and dismayed, may they turn back and be ashamed very quickly.

Glory

7. The psalm of David, which he sang to the Lord, regarding the words of Hushai the son of Jamenite.

Oh my God! I trusted in You, save me from all those who persecute me and deliver me. Let not (the enemy) snatch away my soul like a lion, when there is no deliverer and savior. Oh my God! If I have done anything, if there is injustice in my hands, If I have taken revenge on those who repay me evil, then may I fall exhausted from my enemies, May the enemy pursue my soul and overtake and trample my life into the ground, and let my glory be instilled in the dust. . Arise, O Lord, in Thy wrath, rise above the borders of Thy enemies, and rise up, O Lord my God, according to the commandment which Thou hast commanded. And a host of nations will surround You, and rise above them on high. The Lord judges the nations. Judge me, Lord, according to my righteousness and the kindness that I have. May the malice of sinners cease and correct the righteous, O God, who searches hearts and wombs in righteousness. Help me from God, who saves the upright in heart. God is a righteous and mighty judge, and long-suffering, and does not bring wrath daily. If you do not turn, then He will refine His weapon, He has drawn His bow and prepared it, And in it He has prepared instruments of death, He has made His arrows for those who are burned. So he fell ill with untruth, conceived malice and gave birth to lawlessness. He dug a ditch and deepened it, but he will fall into the pit that he made: his anger will turn on his head and his iniquity will descend on his crown. I confess to the Lord His righteousness and sing to the name of the Lord Most High.

8. To the end. About sharpeners. Psalm of David.

Lord, our Lord! How wonderful is Your name throughout the whole earth! For Your greatness is exalted above the heavens. From the mouths of babes and sucklings You have made praise for the sake of Your enemies, in order to destroy the enemy and the avenger. As I look at the heavens, at the works of Your fingers, at the moon and the stars that You founded, What is man that You remember him? Or son of man, why do you visit him? You have made him a little lower than the angels, You have crowned him with glory and honor, And you have placed him over the works of Your hands, You have put everything under his feet: Sheep and all oxen, and also the cattle of the field, The birds of the air and the fish of the sea that pass through the paths of the sea. Lord, our Lord! How wonderful is Your name throughout the whole earth!

Glory

Prayers after 1 kathisma:

According to the 1st kathisma, Trisagion, Holy Trinity, Our Father.

And this troparion, voice 1:
Having been conceived in iniquity, I, the prodigal, do not dare to look at the heights of Heaven, but, daring in Your love for mankind, I call: God, cleanse me, a sinner, and save me. Even if a righteous man barely escapes, where will I appear, a sinner? I did not bear the hardships and heat of the day, but with the mercenaries of the eleventh hour, join me, O God, and save me.

Glory to the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit: Open the embrace of the Father to me; I have spent my life in fornication; look at the unexpendable riches of Your bounties, O Savior, do not despise my now impoverished heart. For you, Lord, I call with tenderness: those who have sinned in Heaven and before You.

And now and ever, and to the ages of ages: Hope of Christians, Most Holy Virgin, Whom You gave birth to God more than mind and words, pray unceasingly with the powers on high to grant forgiveness of sins to all of us and correction of life, with faith and love for those who ever revere You.

Lord, have mercy (read 40 times) and prayer:

Master Almighty, Incomprehensible, the beginning of the light and the supreme Power, Who is the Father of the Hypostatic Word and the Empowered of Your Spirit: the merciful for the sake of mercy and ineffable goodness, not despising human nature, the darkness of sin, but the Divine lights of Your sacred teachings, the law and prophets shining to the world, follow and let us, O God, grant us, in a vigilant and sober heart, to pass through the whole night of this present life, awaiting the coming of Thy Son and God. ours, the Judge of all, let us not recline and sleep, but be awake and lifted up in the doing of Thy commandments, and let us be found in His joy, where those who celebrate the unceasing voice and the ineffable sweetness of those who behold Thy face, the unspeakable kindness. For You are a Good and Lover of Mankind, and we send glory to You, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages, amen.

Psalm of David.

1 Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the way of sinners, nor sit in the seat of the wicked,

2 But his will is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night!

3 And he will be like a tree planted by streams of water, which brings forth its fruit in its season, and whose leaf does not wither; and in everything he does, he will succeed.

4 Not so are the wicked, [not so]: but they are like dust swept away by the wind [from the face of the earth].

5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

6 For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.

Psalm of David.

1 Why do nations rage, and nations plot vain things?

2 The kings of the earth rise up, and the rulers take counsel together against the Lord and against His Anointed.

3 “Let us break their bonds, and cast away their fetters from us.”

4 He who dwells in heaven will laugh; the Lord will mock him.

5 Then He will say to them in His anger and dismay them with His fury:

6 “I have anointed My King over Zion, My holy mountain;

7 I will declare the decree: The Lord said to Me: You are My Son; Today I have given birth to You;

8 Ask of Me, and I will give the nations for Your inheritance, and the ends of the earth for Your possession;

9 You will strike them with a rod of iron; You will break them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.”

10 Therefore, understand, O kings; learn, judges of the earth!

11 Serve the Lord with fear and rejoice [before Him] with trembling.

12 Honor the Son, lest He be angry, and lest you perish in your journey, for His anger will soon kindle. Blessed are all who trust in Him.

6 Then let the enemy pursue my soul and overtake me, let him trample my life into the ground, and cast my glory into dust.

7 Arise, O Lord, in Thy wrath; move against the fury of my enemies, awaken for me to the judgment that You commanded, -

9 The Lord judges the nations. Judge me, O Lord, according to my righteousness and according to my integrity within me.

PSALM 9

Listen to the Psalms Psalm 9 online

1 To the director of the choir. After the death of Laben. Psalm of David.

2 I will praise [You], Lord, with all my heart, and proclaim all Your wonders.

3 I will rejoice and rejoice in You, I will sing to Your name, O Most High.

4 When my enemies are turned back, they will stumble and perish before You,

5 For You have executed my judgment and my litigation; You have sat on the throne, righteous Judge.

6 You were angry with the nations, you destroyed the wicked, you blotted out their name forever and ever.

7 The enemy has no weapons at all, and you have destroyed cities; their memory perished with them.

8 But the Lord abides forever; He has prepared His throne for judgment,

9 And He will judge the world with righteousness, He will execute judgment on the nations with righteousness.

10 And the Lord will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble;

11 And those who know Your name will trust in You, because You do not forsake those who seek You, O Lord.

12 Sing to the Lord who dwells in Zion; proclaim His works among the nations,

13 For He exacts blood; remembers them, does not forget the cry of the oppressed.

14 Have mercy on me, O Lord; look at my suffering from those who hate me - You who lift me up from the gates of death,

15 That I may proclaim all Thy praises in the gates of the daughter of Zion: I will rejoice in Thy salvation.

16 The nations fell into the pit that they had dug; in the net which they hid their foot was entangled.

17 The Lord was known by the judgment which He executed; the wicked is caught in the works of his own hands.

18 Let the wicked turn to hell, all the nations that forget God.

19 For the poor will not be forever forgotten, and the hope of the poor will not be completely lost.

20 Arise, O Lord, let not man prevail, and let the nations be judged before Thy presence.

21 O Lord, bring fear upon them; let the nations know that they are human.

22 Why, O Lord, do you stand afar off, hiding yourself in times of trouble?

23 In his pride the wicked persecute the poor: let them be caught in the tricks which they themselves devise.

24 For the wicked boasts in the lust of his soul; the self-interested man pleases himself.

25 In his arrogance the wicked despises the Lord: “he will not seek”; in all his thoughts: “There is no God!”

26 His ways are always destructive; Your judgments are far from him; he looks at all his enemies with disdain;

27 He says in his heart: “I will not be moved; no evil will befall me throughout generation and generation”;

28 His mouth is full of curses, deceit and lies; under the tongue is its torment and destruction;

29 He sits in ambush outside the courtyard, killing the innocent in secret places; his eyes spy on the poor;

30 He lies in wait in a secret place, like a lion in his den; lies in wait to capture the poor; he grabs the poor man, dragging him into his net;

31 He bends, he bends down, and the poor fall into his strong claws;

32 He says in his heart: God has forgotten, He has hidden His face, He will never see.

33 Arise, O Lord my God, lift up Your hand, do not forget the oppressed [Thine to the end].

34 Why does the wicked despise God, saying in his heart, “You will not require it”?

35 You see, for You look upon insults and oppression, to repay with Your hand. The poor man betrays himself to you; to the orphan you are a helper.

36 Break the arm of the wicked and the evil one, so that his wickedness may be sought and not found.

37 The Lord is king forever and ever; The pagans will disappear from His land.

38 Lord! You hear the desires of the humble; strengthen their heart; open your ear,

39 to give justice to the fatherless and the oppressed, so that man may not be a terror on earth any more.

To the head of the choir. Psalm of David.

1 I trust in the Lord; How then do you say to my soul: “Fly away to your mountain like a bird”?

2 For behold, the wicked have drawn the bow, and have set their arrow to the string, to shoot in the darkness at the upright in heart.

3 When the foundations are destroyed, what will the righteous do?

4 The Lord is in His holy temple, the Lord is His throne in heaven, His eyes look [on the poor]; His eyelids try the sons of men.

5 The Lord tests the righteous, but His soul hates the wicked and the violent.

6 He will rain burning coals, fire and brimstone on the wicked; and the scorching wind is their share from the cup;

7 For the Lord is righteous, loving righteousness; He sees the righteous in His face.

KATHISMA 1

Psalm 1
Psalm to David, not inscribed among Jews
Psalm 1
Psalm of David, not inscribed among the Jews.
1 Blessed is the man who walketh not in the counsel of the wicked, and in the way of sinners, neither sitteth in the seats of the destroyers, 1 Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the way of sinners, nor sit in the seat of the wicked,
2 But his will is in the law of the Lord, and in his law he shall learn day and night. 2 But his will is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night!
3 And it shall be like a tree planted by the coming out of the waters, which shall yield its fruit in its season, and its leaf shall not fall off, and all that he does shall prosper. 3 And he will be like a tree planted by streams of water, which brings forth its fruit in its season, and whose leaf does not wither; and in everything he does, he will succeed.
4 Not like wickedness, not like this, but like dust that the wind sweeps away from the face of the earth. 4 Not so are the wicked, not so: but they are like dust swept away by the wind from the face of the earth.
5 For this reason the wicked will not rise again for judgment, below the sinner for the council of the righteous. 5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
6 For the Lord preaches the way of the righteous, and the way of the wicked shall perish. 6 For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.

EXPLANATION AND BRIEF INTERPRETATION OF PSALM 1

The first psalm depicts the blessed state of the righteous in contrast to the disastrous state of the wicked; blessedness is the basis and beginning of the teaching about the moral life of people, and it is communicated only to righteous people, that is, those who willingly fulfill the law of the Lord.

Ps.1:1 Blessed is the man who does not follow the counsel of the wicked, and does not stand in the path of sinners, and does not sit in the seats of the destroyers.

Here the word “husband” must be understood as “person”, and not just a man.
According to the teachings of St. Afanasia advice of the wicked - this is “a meeting, or gathering, of wicked people,” and according to St. Basil the Great, to council of the wicked One can attribute wicked thoughts, from which an ungodly deed begins.
Don't go, don't stop, don't sit, - means: whoever has not gone, does not walk and does not stop. Those. blessed is the one who does not share the thoughts and feelings of wicked people and maintains purity of thoughts; and if he is drawn into evil, he does not stand in it, does not become ossified; Blessed is he who does not participate in the meetings of the destroyers of faith and morals, who abstains from agreement and complicity with the wicked.

Ps.1:2 But his will is in the law of the Lord, and in his law he will learn day and night.

The piety of a believer is based on the unwavering fulfillment of the will of God.

Ps.1:3 And it will be like a tree planted by the rising waters, which will yield its fruit in its season, and its leaf will not fall off, and everything that it does will prosper.

These words are practically the same as the words of God spoken through the prophet Jeremiah (chapter 17 of Jeremiah’s prophecies), who denounced the wickedness of the Jews: "Blessed is the man like(which) He trusts in the Lord, and he will be like a tree planted by the waters, and he will put down his roots for good; he will not fear when the heat comes.(heat, drought) and the stalk will be green on it, and in times of lack of rain it will not be afraid and will not stop producing fruit.”

Ps.1:4 Not like wickedness, not like this, but like dust, which the wind sweeps away from the face of the earth.

Pious people, unlike the wicked, do everything with the hope of God's help, therefore the grace of God is poured out on them, and these labors are always successful. What about wicked deprived of God's grace-filled assistance and therefore like dust swept away by the wind from the face of the earth, these deeds are destroyed and do not bear fruit. They, through the long-suffering of God, often enjoy all the blessings of this world; and meanwhile, as it is written in the book of Job, they say to God: “Get away from us, we do not want to know Your ways! What is the Almighty, that we should serve Him? and what is the use of resorting to Him?” Being atheists, they live in sin and indulge in all vices, all shameful passions ( Rome. 1:24–32). Being themselves evil and insane, they persecute believers ( In. 16:23).

Ps.1:5 For this reason, the wicked will not rise to judgment, below the sinner to the council of the righteous.

Translated from Hebrew: The wicked will not stand in judgment, will not stand because they are like the dust of the earth, are not confirmed by faith in Christ and are already condemned, according to the word of the Savior Himself: “Whoever does not have faith will be condemned”(Mark 16:16).
Wicked, sinners will be convicted, the righteous and pious after the resurrection will follow into the Kingdom of God, or - what is the same - to eternal life as the Savior Himself says: “Amen, amen, I say to you, that if you hear my word and believe him who sent me, you will have eternal life, and will not come into judgment, but will pass from death to life.”(John 5:24).

Ps.1:6 For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, and the way of the wicked will perish.

This means that the Omniscient and Righteous Judge has everything known. He knows everything even before the trial and therefore has no need for either evidence or denunciation.
Under by This does not mean the road we walk on, but our deeds, thoughts and intentions, and therefore these words of the psalm: the way of the wicked will perish mean that the deeds, plans, machinations of the wicked, and with them they themselves will die.

Blessed are all those who looking for Lord God with all their hearts, who delight in the law of God and meditate on it day and night(Ps. 11:1, 1:2) who listen to the Word of God and act on it. Blessed are all those upon whom, on the day of judgment, the blessing of the Heavenly Father will extend, spoken by the mouth of the Son of God: “Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.”
