Some of the strongest combinations in poker, such as flush and royal flush, are formed precisely from a combination of cards of the same suit. Moreover, it is almost impossible for two players to get such a combination at the same time. In addition, a number of situations may arise in the game, which we will discuss below, where the seniority of suits is used.

Types of card suits

The most common is French interpretation and ranking of cards. Currently, in any card games there are four suits:

• peaks - Spades. In the text it is indicated as the value of the card with the letter s, for example: Ts;
• hearts - Hearts. In the text - h, for example: Ah;
• tambourines - Diamonds. Written as d, for example: Qd;
• clubs - Clubs. In the text it is denoted as c, for example: Kc.

As you know, a deck of cards contains four cards of each denomination, having different suits. What way out can be used in the above situations, when the players received cards of the same value during the distribution? In fact, everything is very simple. It is for these situations that the highest suit in poker comes in handy, and the player on the button or the player taking the odd chip in a split will be determined by the highest suit in accordance with the ranking described.

Knowledge of the generally accepted ranking of card suits can be useful to a poker player and in any other situations that require determining priority.

Suits in poker are important not only when building combinations, for example, when making a Flush, but also in some other moments of the game. Thus, even the seniority of suits in poker can matter, although this only applies to certain card disciplines - varieties of seven-card poker.

Classic suit ranking in poker

In ancient times, suits played a very important role in the games that were popular in those days. The rules of these games were very complex and confusing. The game took into account not only the value of the cards, but also the suit. In this case, the generally accepted hierarchy of suits was used. The highest suit in poker is Spades.

Poker suits are distributed according to seniority as follows, from highest to lowest: Spades, Hearts, Diamonds, Clubs.

Where seniority of suits was used in poker, Spades beat all suits, and, for example, Diamonds beat only Clubs. This classification seniority is still used today. However, it is widely used only in exotic games that are not very popular. But there is an exception - varieties of seven-card poker.

In such games, it often happens that two or more players receive cards of the same value face up. In this case, the seniority of suits in poker is used to determine which player will make the Bring-in. If this situation arises, the bet is made by the poker player who received the lowest card by suit.

For example: two players in Stud poker received open Threes - in the current hand, the lowest cards at the table. One of them has the Three of Hearts, and the second has Diamonds. In this case, the second player will make a forced bet, since Diamonds are lower than Hearts.

Erroneous determination of suit in poker by seniority

Some players make the mistake of playing classic poker games and using suit rank to determine hand strength. The fact is that which suit is the highest in Omaha poker, Hold'em and Draw varieties is not provided. The seniority of suits is not described by the rules of these games.

Rules of the game. This game was popular in the 1980s among military personnel in the Royal Air Force Great Britain. Often, they played for small money, but you can play without money. If they play for money, then each player is obliged to place a bet on the game in the amount agreed upon before the game between all players. In the first game, the dealer is determined by lot; in subsequent games, the loser or winner of the previous game becomes the dealer. After determining the dealer, the deck is carefully shuffled, removed and each player is dealt 18 cards, the remaining 4 cards are placed closed in the center of the table, forming a square. There is no trump suit in the game. Next, starting from the player to the left of the dealer, the exchange of cards begins: each player gives the next player clockwise one of his cards and receives from him a card of the same suit, but of a higher value; if the player does not have such a card, then the player gives his any card. After this, the dealer exchanges his any 4 cards with the cards that lie on the table in the shape of a square. The exchanged cards are put aside and do not take part in the game. The first move in the game belongs to the player to the left of the dealer. A player can enter from any of his cards, each next player clockwise must put a card of the same suit, if there is no card of that suit, then he can put any card. The player whose card turns out to be higher takes the laid out cards (bribe), and the same player has the right to make the first move in the next draw of the bribe. The player who is the first to take 12 tricks becomes the winner and if they played for money, then he takes all the money for himself.
Note. If they play for money, there is a certain rule: the dealer must take at least 8 tricks, the player to the left of the dealer must take at least 5 tricks, and the player to the right of the dealer must take at least 3 tricks. If any of the players does not fulfill this condition, then he must give one bet to the winner of the game. As a result, the winner will have in his hands an amount of money equal to four bets.
There is a variant of the game when they play according to the rule not 8-5-3 tricks, but 9-5-2 tricks. That is, the dealer must take at least 9 tricks, the player on the left must take at least 5 tricks, and the player on the right must take at least 2 tricks.
