She felt the sleeping man with her bare foot, stepped over him and opened the door to the hut where Prince Andrei lay. It was dark in this hut. In the back corner, by the bed, on which something was lying, on a bench stood a tallow candle burnt with a large mushroom.
In the morning, Natasha, when she was told about the wound and the presence of Prince Andrei, decided that she should see him. She didn't know what it was for, but she knew that the date would be painful, and she was even more convinced that it was necessary.
All day she lived only in the hope that at night she would see him. But now that the moment had come, she was terrified of what she would see. How was he mutilated? What was left of him? Was he like that, what was that unceasing groan of the adjutant? Yes, he was. He was in her imagination the personification of that terrible moan. Since June 1, 2015, it has been a member of the Federal Research Center "Computer Science and Control" on the basis of the IPI RAS (Director - Academician I.A. Sokolov).

Founding history

In the early 1980s, the President of the USSR Academy of Sciences A.P. Aleksandrov and Vice-President of the USSR Academy of Sciences E.P. Velikhov prepared proposals addressed to the leadership of the USSR on expanding and strengthening research in the field of informatics and computer technology within the framework of the USSR Academy of Sciences. In pursuance of them, in 1983, the Department of Informatics, Computer Engineering and Automation was formed as part of the USSR Academy of Sciences (under the general supervision of E.P. Velikhov), which included the Computing Center of the USSR Academy of Sciences, as well as several newly formed institutes, in including the Institute for Informatics Problems of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (IPIAN).

The corresponding resolution of the Central Committee of the CPSU and the Council of Ministers of the USSR on the establishment of IPIAN is dated July 29, 1983, and the Order of the Presidium of the USSR Academy of Sciences - August 2, 1983.

Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences B.N. Naumov, who headed the Institute of Electronic Control Machines of the USSR Ministry of Instruments (INEUM). The main task of IPIAN was defined as "... carrying out fundamental and applied research in the field of technical and software mass computing equipment and systems based on them", and the basis of the first scientific divisions of IPIAN was the teams of a number of scientific departments of INEUM, transferred to IPIAN in early 1984.

In 1984–85 under the direction of B.N. Naumov developed the concept of new generations of computing systems (a kind of response of the USSR and its allies to strategic program creation of fifth generation computers, announced in the early 1980s. in Japan).

Fundamental and applied research to implement this concept was carried out at IPIAN within the framework of the following complex scientific projects:

  • knowledge processing systems;
  • image processing and computer graphics systems;
  • automation systems for the design of computer systems and very large-scale integrated circuits (VLSI);
  • computer networks;
  • personal computer systems;
  • fault-tolerant computing systems;
  • new principles of information storage (new external storage devices);
  • programming technologies;
  • new algorithms and architectures of information processing;
  • educational informatics.

In the first years after its founding, the Institute developed rapidly - it included branches in Berdyansk, Kazan, Orel. In 1990, a joint department was formed with the Radio Engineering Institute in Taganrog. Total population employees of the institute in 1988–1989. exceeded 1000 people.

In connection with market reforms and a reduction in budget funding in 1991, the number of employees was reduced four times, to 250 people.

Since 1992, the institute has been called the Institute of Informatics Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IPI RAS) and is part of the Department of Nanotechnology and Information Technology of the Russian Academy of Sciences (until 2002 - the Department of Informatics, Computer Engineering and Automation, in 2002–2007 - the Department of Information Technology and computing systems).

Now the institute includes branches in Orel and Kaliningrad.

Since 1985, the dissertation council has been operating at the institute with the right to defend dissertations for the academic degrees of doctor and candidate of sciences in four specialties: 05.13.11, 05.13.13, 05.13.15 and 05.13.17. Since 1984, the institute has had a base department at MIREA (Moscow Institute of Radio Engineering, Electronics and Automation), where the institute's employees teach; many graduates of the department work at the IPI RAS.

Department of Predictive Modeling and Optimization trains specialists in the field of predictive modeling and optimization. This new scientific direction, lying at the intersection of applied mathematics and information technology, is in high demand by leading technology companies. In Russia, the theoretical foundations of predictive modeling and optimization are being developed

The predictive modeling and optimization technology developed by DATADVANCE, as well as its engineering applications, is used by the world's largest high-tech companies (for example, Airbus aircraft manufacturer, IHI heavy machinery corporation, etc.). One of the co-founders of DATADVANCE is EADS (European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company - the largest European corporation in the aerospace industry with an annual turnover of about 43 billion euros). At the end of 2010, DATADVANCE became one of the first participants in the Skolkovo Innovation Center project.

The Institute for Information Transmission Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences was established in 1961 on the initiative of Academician A.A. Kharkevich to develop the theory of information transmission and its applications, solve fundamental issues of building telecommunication networks and systems, and develop methods for automatic recognition.

A unique team of highly qualified scientists has been formed at the IPTP RAS, bringing together mathematicians, physicists, biologists, engineers and linguists, which allows them to conduct both applied and fundamental research at the intersection of different sciences. IPTP RAS is part of the Department of Nanotechnology and Information Technology of the Russian Academy of Sciences and conducts scientific research in the following areas:

IPTP RAS throughout the entire period of its existence, i.e. more than 40 years, has been holding leading positions in the world scientific community in the field of information transmission and processing theory. Three employees of the Institute in 1978, 1998 and 2006, respectively, were awarded the highest prize in the field of mathematics - they were awarded the Fields gold medal. No less important is the fact that the theoretical developments are used by the Institute's staff to solve practical problems. The largest Russian and foreign companies and departments often act as customers for the work: the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, Airbus, Eurocopter, IHI, etc.

In the field of predictive modeling and optimization, scientists of the Institute, in collaboration with other institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences, under the leadership of the Director of the IPTP RAS, Corr. RAS, prof. Kuleshova A.P., developed the theoretical foundations of original methods for constructing metamodels with high computational efficiency and the required accuracy, as well as methods of multidisciplinary optimization.

Metamodels are mathematical models based on data - the results of natural and / or computational experiments conducted with various objects of the class under consideration, with minimal involvement of knowledge from the subject area (physics of processes). In other words, models are “learned” from a set of prototypes of input and output data and actually imitate (replace) both data sources based on some initial model, and the models themselves, created on the basis of studying the physics of processes. The use of metamodeling approaches developed at the Institute in multidisciplinary optimization has significantly accelerated calculations, while reducing the number of expensive full-scale/computational experiments.

The developed methods of predictive modeling and optimization make it possible to effectively solve the problems of creating and developing complex engineering systems of a modern level (for example, passenger aircraft).

The development of the theoretical developments of the IPTP RAS in the field of predictive modeling and optimization, their implementation in commercial software products, implementation and subsequent support is carried out by the DATADVANCE company, one of the co-founders of which was the EADS concern. EADS is the sole shareholder of Airbus S.A.S., a manufacturer of passenger, cargo and military transport aircraft. The concern also owns Eurocopter (helicopters), Astrium (satellites, rockets), etc.

Scientific research and subsequent software development are carried out by DATADVANCE in Russia (Moscow). Direct work with customers (performing applied engineering work and training the customer to work with the software) takes place in France (Toulouse), where DATADVANCE also has an office.

Training at the basic department of predictive modeling and optimization is conducted in the direction of "Data Mining" and includes the study of:

  • methods for processing signals of various nature (video, audio, signals in wildlife),

  • architectures and organization of computing systems,

  • etc.

As a result of training, the student receives:

  • in-depth knowledge of theoretical and applied mathematical statistics and data analysis,
  • basic knowledge in the field of constructing and analyzing computational algorithms, planning and conducting computational experiments (in particular, the skills of active work with the main systems of computer mathematics),
  • basic knowledge of programming technologies and design of software products and complexes.

Fundamental knowledge acquired by students allows them to be actively involved in the implementation of research and applied work both as part of the IPTP RAS team and in the DATADVANCE company. All students of the department receive an additional scholarship.

Recruitment to the Department of Predictive Modeling and Optimization is carried out on a competitive basis. While studying at the department, a student:
