What can you make a soft headboard of a bed. How to restore an old bed with your own hands at home - tips and tricks

How to make a patchwork headboard

It's beautiful and original.patchwork headboard, in my opinion, it will look cool in a guest or children's bedroom.

For its manufacture, you can use colorful patterned or plain fabrics. By choosing the appropriate tones, colors and patterns, such patchwork bed making can fit into any existing environment.

And finally, the most important thing is that a patchwork headboard is very easy to make ...

I stumbled upon a similar recipe and took the time to give it a try and I don't regret it.

The example in the photo used green, orange and white fabrics for patchwork pillows, which goes well with the overall color in the bedroom.

Pro making a backrest from patchwork pillows

We will need:

- 2 sheets of 19mm plywood
- Saw, hacksaw or something similar (you can ask your men to cut into squares)
- High density foam.
— Batting
- Glue.
- 1 meter of fabric in each of the four colors
- Scissors
- Stapler and 8mm staples
- Adhesive tape
- Screwdriver and about 35 screws
- Two mounts - hangers on the wall.

To begin with, we cut one sheet of plywood into pieces 200 x 200 or take ready-made ones.

We cut foam rubber and batting into pieces of 200 x 200 mm.

We cut the fabric into pieces 300 x 300 mm.

Now explanations for the instruction picture:

1 We take a piece of plywood 200 x 200 mm and glue foam rubber on it so that it does not slip.

2. Add a layer of batting and fabric.

3. We get three layers laid front side down to the work surface.

4. We tighten the fabric along the edges, first on one side, tuck the excess and punch it with a stapler.

We sip the fabric to a hard - but not too tight surface, first at opposite corners of the pillow. Then we fold the corners and carefully punch through.

We repeat the same from all sides and catch the pillow, making sure not to pull it too hard.

5 We do steps 1-4 and get 40 patchwork pillows.

I want to say that it is easier to work according to the template, so it turns out faster and more convenient.

6. Lay all pillows face down. We twist them around the perimeter so that they do not crumble. Then we take the second uncut piece of plywood, align it and fix each pillow with screws through it. It is necessary to mark the places where to turn the screws and choose a screw number so that they do not pierce the plywood on the pillows through, otherwise you can get hurt later.

And finally, we attach hanging loops to the back wall of the headboard and everything is ready for installation.

If you do not want to hang a patchwork headboard on the wall, you can do it differently. We attach to it two legs a little lower than the bed. And then we just install it between the wall and the regular headboard ...

The original appearance of your bedroom is guaranteed!

The background to the creation of the headboard was as follows. On the one hand, I did not want to pay several thousand euros for an Italian or French bed at all, and on the other hand, I really wanted to create something special. And then it was decided that we would make the bed ourselves. So, I'll show you how the process of creating this beautiful bed went.

I formulated the problem as follows. We need to make a bed with a fairly wide base with a removable cover and a figured headboard.
First, a whole collection of headboards was assembled. After reviewing it, a shortlist was formed, which was analyzed for the complexity of implementation on site. As a result of weighing all the pros and cons, a prototype of the future headboard was chosen.

So, now everything is in order.

1. We ordered a prefabricated MDF bed frame. Previously, two orthopedic bases were transferred to the workshop, bought in Ikea6, the dimensions of which became the starting point for calculating the dimensions.

2. Cut out the shape of the headboard.

3. We dismantle the headboard and proceed to its upholstery. Foam rubber 5 cm thick was pre-cut in the workshop according to a pattern taken from the headboard mold. We impose foam rubber to the headboard and fix it with glue (special glue for foam rubber) in several places.

4. Using a furniture stapler, we nail the edges of the foam rubber to the plywood.

5. We proceed directly to stretching the fabric. We start from the bottom to evenly fix the fabric, then we put the headboard vertically and stretch the fabric. To get around the corners, we cut the fabric.

6. We put the headboard vertically6 check the symmetry and uniformity of the tension of the fabric.
7. Let's get to work with furniture studs. First we upholster the outer edge.

8. We make markings with chalk for the second line of furniture studs. To mark this line, we first pierce it with a furniture stapler.

9. About the line indicated by the stapler, we nail the carnations of the furniture tape.

10. C reverse side we cover everything with a technical cloth.

The headboard is the centerpiece of the bedroom design. This detail can make the room more comfortable and stylish. Surely you have seen a lot of presentable beds with chic headboards in hotels or on TV, but you never thought that you can do it yourself.

A beautiful headboard made of expensive fabric will help emphasize your style and aristocracy. Of course, you can limit yourself to buying, but it is much more interesting to make a headboard yourself, choosing a unique shape and high-quality material. In addition to saving money, you will also save time that would have taken you to find the right headboard.

The essence of the method

The purpose of an upholstered headboard is to improve the appearance of the headboard and make it more pleasant to the touch. The advantage of this method is that it does not require much experience or design skills.

All you need is:

  1. Decide on the material. Rough canvas or wool is best, but the final choice is yours.
  2. Decide on buttons. It is recommended to select buttons to match the selected upholstery material, but you can also experiment with shades.

materials

To do a good job, we need:

  1. Plywood sheet. The amount of this material depends on the size of the future headboard, and we will give the appropriate shape in the process.
  2. Foam rubber. You can choose another material for the lining, but it should be soft.
  3. Sintepon or batting.
  4. Needle with thread.
  5. Small carnations.
  6. Hooks.
  7. Buttons.
  8. Buttons.
  9. Set of tools.

We may also need:

  1. Jigsaw.
  2. Drill with a set of drills.
  3. stapler.
  4. Construction goats.

Stages of work

To make it easier for you to navigate, we will describe the whole process in stages.

First stage

It's optional, but if you want to give your headboard a unique shape, you can't skip it. In this step, we will cut the headboard out of a sheet of plywood in the shape of your choice.

First you need to draw a sketch on paper and only after that transfer it to plywood, after which we cut off all the extra parts with a jigsaw. This stage will require maximum accuracy from you, as one awkward movement will return us to the beginning.

Second phase

In the resulting workpiece, we drill holes for the buttons, observing the distance and approximate sequence.

Note! Buttonholes should be smooth on both sides.

Third stage

Fitting the foam rubber (or any other material that has been chosen for the padding) to the shape of the headboard. You can choose any thickness of plywood and foam rubber! Scissors are used to cut the material.

Fourth stage

To tightly press the foam rubber to plywood, it is recommended to use batting, and for fixing - a construction stapler. We need to stretch the material as much as possible on the plywood blank and fix it on the back side with brackets. If the selected batting turned out to be of poor quality and cannot provide a sufficiently tight pressure, then adhesives can be used.

Fifth stage

With the help of a stapler, we also fix the upholstery material, having previously covered the headboard with it. If the chosen headboard shape is not too sophisticated, then a needle and thread will not be needed. In this case, it is better to start stretching the fabric from the center, gradually distributing it along the edges.

Note! To ensure that the attractiveness of the headboard is not affected, it is recommended to use pintucks of the same size along the entire length of the fabric, with each subsequent one overlapping the previous one.

Sixth stage

Upholstery material is also used for covering buttons. To fix it on the products, you need to use a needle. To increase the strength and increase the presentability of finished buttons, you can add embroidery threads to ordinary threads. It is necessary to fix the covered decorative elements on the headboard by inserting them into the previously drilled holes and sewing them to the headboard.

Note! Both ends of the thread should remain on the back of the headboard.

seventh stage

At the last stage, we will attach the headboard to the wall with special hooks. These products must be securely fixed in the chosen place and only after that the finished headboard should be hung on them.

Options

You can make a soft headboard with your own hands and not only by the above method. As an original design of the bed, you can use small decorative pillows attached to the wall. You can lay out an ornament from them or simply place them in a checkerboard pattern (if two colors are selected). You can also cover a simple wooden headboard with a long piece of material, tying it in front with a pretty bow.

We continue to fill the treasury of ideas on the topic of original solutions for the bedroom, namely, the unusual decoration of the head of the bed. Some time ago we posted fresh collections from different ways decoration of this very noticeable element of the bedroom. But from the last collection, we decided to share fresh ideas by type of creativity and result.

Already out, and this selection is dedicated to three-dimensional structures - in all their diversity.

What beds are they suitable for? First of all, for those modern models that do not require a factory headboard. But if your bed has it, it is likely that you will have a desire to update it or replace it with a new, unusual one. So by “structures” we mean a rigid element that is attached to the wall or to the bed itself, as well as the design of the wall around the headboard (shelves and niches).

We divided all collected ideas into 6 parts, focusing on the style of the result. However, in each of them you will find completely different options, although there are still common features (shape, material or type of decoration).

So, in this issue for creative natures and their crazy hands 6 fresh headboard themes:

  • romance of a French princess;
  • inspiration from the East;
  • strict classic options;
  • natural wood + country;
  • fantasy solutions;
  • restrained lines of modern urban style.

Let creativity bring you pleasure, and the result will exceed expectations!

headboard idea #1: a la French princess

The main decoration of this type of headboard is monograms and floral motifs. They can appear in the form of a structure (like cut out of plywood) or be the result of your drawing (or decoupage) on the wood surface of an existing headboard.

If you already have a French-style wrought-iron headboard, try to get creative with it, for example, decorate it with a romantic garland.

headboard idea #2: East is a delicate matter

When we think of the East, we most often mean either the Arab countries or Far East. In all these cultures, such an original piece of furniture as a screen was known. It is she who can become the basis of a new headboard. But more on that later, but first, about Japan.

Light trellises, shelves associated with pagodas, bamboo - all this will add a touch of light to the bedroom. fashionable style interior. The first row of pictures in section-2 is just about this topic.

And now back to the screen. The bedroom of an oriental beauty cannot be imagined without a screen; European aristocrats of the 18th century instantly appreciated the elegance and intimacy of this compact item. You can see many options in more detail in our screen galleries ( , ), and here we offer to see how this accessory becomes a plot for inspiration.

For example, take as a basis the very essence of the screen (partial isolation) and make a “lattice” for the head of the bed. The opposite option is to get a real oriental little thing and attach it to the wall. A compromise solution is to create a simple analogue of a screen from improvised materials, fastening parts of the frame with furniture hinges.

headboard idea number 3: the rigor of exquisite classics

If we abstract from Rococo and Baroque, many will remember that the classics presuppose a certain severity and restraint of lines. In this section, we have collected several options for those who like it.

Rigid structures of symmetrical shape - plywood and metal, as well as frames made of moldings on the bedside wall, evoking associations with old paintings.

__________________________

headboard idea #4: eco-friendly country

These stories are likely to appeal to lovers of eco-friendly materials and simple but charming solutions. Wooden boards, old door panels or thin trellises imitating a fence - in a word, "life surrounded by nature and strong things a la a rural master."

headboard idea #5: fantasy without limits

And here are collected options that can be safely considered single. Some of these headboard designs can be created instantly, for example, as in photo-2 (from a set of small IKEA mirrors) or photo-5 (a regular straight MDF headboard is pasted over with a patchwork of multi-colored wallpapers that match in tone to each other.

Other ideas will require a longer selection of materials, but the result will really look unique.

Perhaps the most important accent in every bedroom is the beautifully designed headboard. Since the furniture market offers standard monotonous options, and you really want an exclusive in the interior of the bedroom, you can turn to your creativity and make the head of the bed with your own hands.

Kinds

Depending on the method of installation and shape, headboards come in two types: with an inclined back and a simple vertical panel design.

If we consider the reclining headboard, then it is worth paying attention to its clear advantage in providing comfort for the back while leaning back while watching TV or reading books.

Among the advantages of the panel are saving space in the room(unlike a reclining headboard, which increases the length of the bed, taking up extra floor space, a straight panel only takes up non-functional wall space).

The sloping headboard can be made by hand from a wooden profile up to 20 mm thick or from a chipboard profile. Details are drawn on the sheet, blanks are cut out, which are carefully sanded and leveled with a file. By means of wooden dowels and epoxy glue, all parts are fastened together.

After checking the strength of the bonding, you can proceed to finish the structure: they use both a self-adhesive decorative film under a tree, and facing panels, upholstery fabrics. The backrest is attached to the bed frame with screws or bolts with nuts.

Key points when choosing a headboard

The main parameters when choosing a headboard are appearance and comfort. For those who spend a lot of time in bed reading books and watching movies, a soft headboard is more suitable.

Given the fact that the headboard will often lean on, you should choose an upholstery fabric that will be easy to care for (wear-resistant artificial or genuine leather is best as a material).

The hard back option is suitable for those for whom product design is more important than comfort and functionality (for example, it is very inconvenient to lean on a wrought iron headboard and put a pillow on it). Here you can experiment with the shape of the backrest, taking into account the interior and the concept of the bedroom. Of the materials, wood, metal, plastic profiles are suitable.

As for the choice of headboard fabric, here you should pay attention to the following nuances:

  1. the back of the selected fabric should fit into the interior of the bedroom;
  2. it is desirable that the fabric is wear-resistant, and caring for it does not bring inconvenience;
  3. when choosing textiles with a large pattern (flowers, geometric figures) bright colors, it is recommended to limit the interior to only these prints, so as not to overload the appearance of the room.

Having considered the styles of the interiors of the premises listed below, you can decide on the appearance of the headboard for the bed, which will harmoniously fit into the bedroom, create coziness and determine the necessary accents:

  • Classical style involves the correct geometric shape of the furniture. Pastel, calm shades are combined with the color of the tree. Often for a bedroom in classical style choose wooden headboards or rich options with carriage stitch.

  • Style baroque very pretentious and pompous. A lot of stucco, plaster and gilding are the distinctive elements of the Baroque interior. Headboards for beds of complex curved shape with patterns are suitable here.

  • popular now Scandinavian the style is distinguished by the predominance of natural materials in light colors. Functionality, simplicity and light are the main attributes of the Scandinavian interior. When choosing a headboard, you should pay attention to options made of wood, cotton and linen fabrics, are welcome drawers located on the back of the profile or bookshelves.

  • High tech likes chrome products, shiny metal and glass. The strict geometric shape of the headboard in black and white is the perfect choice.

  • American the style involves dark woods combined with light walls and textiles. When choosing a headboard in this case, you can focus on the classic options.

  • Minimalism, like the Scandinavian style, welcomes restraint and functionality in everything. Headboard colors can be pastel, light gray, blue and beige.

  • Oriental style is a wealth of painting and colors. Carved backs or canopies will fit perfectly into the interior of the bedroom in oriental style. Nobody canceled the inlay either.

  • Nautical the style is famous for the predominance of fresh tones in the interior. Therefore, it is better to choose a headboard in blue, white or turquoise tones. Product materials: aged wood, metal forging, natural textiles (except for leather).

  • Style country music- a warm and bright range of colors in the interior, wooden furniture, ornaments, natural textiles. An ideal headboard for a country-style bed would be a product made of leather, tapestry, and a variety of colorful pillows.

  • Style empire on the contrary, expensive and luxurious. Only high quality materials are acceptable. A bronze or leather headboard would be appropriate in this bedroom.

  • Ecostyle suggests a lot of light and free space. Headboards made of natural textile materials such as linen and cotton will look perfect. Rigid backs made of wood are also suitable.

  • French style embodies romance and a special atmosphere. Forging, carved wooden elements will fit well into the French bedroom. And antique fabrics or aged materials will add sophistication to the bed and the interior as a whole.

  • Colonial style, like the oriental, welcomes canopies decorated with tassels. Massive headboards will successfully fit into the solid interior of the bedroom.

  • Chalet- style without frills. Strictness and correct geometry can be traced throughout the interior. The best choice for a headboard in a chalet-style bedroom is a wooden frame lined with tapestry in restrained tones.

  • Russian style - a lot of wood in the interior. Therefore, a matching headboard is suitable for the same wooden bed. Particularly interesting are the options with aged furniture. You can make the head of the bed with design elements of the Russian stove.

How to make your own hard back?

If you decide to make the head of the bed yourself, then the first thing you need to decide is the material from which the frame will be made, upholstery materials, appearance and rigidity. Rigid headboards are made from wood, laminate, prefabricated wall panels, plastic, metal, and even ceramic. If a wooden headboard without facing materials is chosen, then the final version of the product should be smooth, even, without cracks and natural recesses in the tree.

In order to avoid the difficulties of grinding raw wood, choose a finished profile from an array or a parquet board.

To make a hard wood headboard you will need:

  • wooden base up to 20 mm thick;
  • fasteners (bolts, nuts, self-tapping screws, hinges);
  • a sheet of sandpaper;
  • electric drill;
  • wood pencil;
  • screwdriver;
  • hammer;
  • construction tape.

First you need to draw a sketch on the wooden profile of the future product with a simple pencil and mark the points where the fastener holes will be located.

It must be borne in mind that the width of the backrest must correspond to the dimensions of the bed.

After that, having carefully verified all dimensions, cut the product along the contour, make holes (from two or more for each side).

All roughness gently grind with sandpaper. If desired, the workpiece of the product can be varnished. After the surface has completely dried, this structure is attached to the bed frame using self-tapping screws or bolts, or hung on hinges on the bedside wall.

How to make a soft headboard yourself?

simple upholstery

Making a soft back will require more trouble, but its rich appearance is worth these material, physical and time costs.

To make such a headboard you need:

  • Chipboard profile or plywood, with selected height;
  • upholstery fabric, the length and width of which will exceed the dimensions of the plywood by about 20-30 cm to be captured by the stapler;
  • synthetic winterizer, foam rubber or batting (the grip for fixing with a stapler must be taken into account similarly to upholstery fabric);
  • fasteners (bolts or screws);
  • furniture glue;
  • drill;
  • furniture stapler.

Draw a sketch on a sheet of plywood, mark holes for fasteners. If desired, draw a figured edge. Carefully cut out the workpiece.

The selected soft filler (synthetic winterizer, foam rubber or batting) is laid out on the surface of the headboard, adjusted to the dimensions of the product.

If a layered synthetic winterizer is used, then its first layer is fixed with a furniture stapler on the reverse side, and the last layer of the synthetic winterizer is sprayed with glue.

After the glue dries, the sheathing is pulled on top (velor, tapestry, leather fabric or eco-leather materials are most often used as sheathing materials). The selected fabric is distributed evenly, without clamps, over the surface of the workpiece and the edges of the padding polyester and fabric are fastened with staples from the furniture stapler from the wrong side. Using self-tapping screws or bolts, the product is mounted on the bedside wall or on the frame of the bed itself.

Quilted in the technique of "carriage coupler": a master class

Lovers of the classics will love the quilted headboard using the "carriage tie" technique. The method of execution of this technique was invented in France for the design of carriage saddles. Luxurious design of upholstered furniture in this technique is used to this day. And making recessed buttons in a lush space is not difficult at all. The workpiece is cut in the manner described above.

Holes are marked on the surface of the headboard frame, they are drilled and a layer of foam is covered on top. In appropriate places, holes are also drawn on the foam rubber. Then, with the help of glue, the foam rubber is fixed on the surface of the headboard (at the same time, you should pay attention that the holes on the foam rubber correspond to the holes on the frame of the product). A synthetic winterizer is applied over the foam rubber and upholstery textiles are pulled over it (capture 10-15 cm on the wrong side). Fasten the fabric and synthetic winterizer with a stapler on the back of the product.

When choosing accessories - buttons in the color of the main product, they are pre-sheathed with the same fabric as the head of the bed. You can use multi-colored buttons and even glass ones.

A tourniquet is pulled through the base of each button and tied into a knot. Each button is placed in the prepared hole on the front side of the headboard.

Using a crochet hook or needle, thread the tourniquet into the hole, pull it and fix it on the back of the product. Thus, folds appear on the fabric in the area of \u200b\u200bbuttons. If desired, to hide all the seams and staples, the underside of the headboard can be covered with the same upholstery fabric. With self-tapping screws or with the help of canopies, the headboard is also fixed on the wall or on the bed frame.

From pillows

A very original and simple way to decorate the head of the bed with decorative pillows will be. The backrest does not require a plywood profile. No drilling or cutting required. And pillows can be found in everyone’s house, or they are easy and not expensive to buy in a store.

The original pillow headboard will look no less comfortable than velor or tapestry. In addition, they are so nice to lean on, because they are soft and comfortable. Ease of installation allows you to quickly install such a headboard. It is enough just to attach a decorative curtain rod at a certain height above the bed and hang pillows with the help of loops.

The headboard made of pillows also has the advantage that if the old covers are tired, they can always be replaced with more interesting ones.

We sew a cover

In order to sew a cover on the head of the bed, choose a suitable upholstery fabric. Previously, in order for the fabric to shrink, it is washed at a temperature of 30-40 degrees, dried and ironed.

After that, a rectangle is cut out on the fabric according to the following formulas:

  • product length = A + 2h + 10 cm + 2 cm;
  • product width = B + 2h + 10 cm + 2 cm;
  • A - the length of the pillow;
  • B - the width of the pillow;
  • h - foam rubber thickness (you can reduce the pattern to 0.5 cm, so that the cover fits the product tightly);
  • 10 cm - capture on each side of the wrong side;
  • 2 cm - grip on the seams.

Measure 1 cm + 5 cm = 6 cm along each edge and draw a line. Draw out 4.5 cm, draw another line. A diagonal is drawn through the corners of this rectangle so that its intersection is at equal intervals from the corners. After taking into account the allowance of 2 cm for the seams, cut out along the contour. Repeat the same steps for each corner.

The bed is the main subject of the bedroom set. Today, there are many different models of beds, one of the first places is occupied by options with soft headboards. The cost of such products is quite high, but making a headboard with your own hands is not difficult. This will not only save on labor, but will also give you the opportunity to experiment with finishing.

The original headboard serves as the final stage of any bed. With it, the bed looks spectacular and beautiful, it gives the bedroom a unique style and originality. How to make a headboard with your own hands is a question for those who want to create new or update old furniture on their own. For this work, you need a certain time, a special set of devices, materials and schemes, drawings for making a bed with your own hands.

This will require materials:

  • sheets of plywood of medium thickness - it is advisable to take a furniture option;
  • foam rubber, batting, necessary for a soft headboard for a bed with your own hands;
  • nails - preferably 1.5 inches thick;
  • decorative fabric - you need to buy it in furniture stores. The size of the cut is selected based on the area of the product, but do not forget about the margin for the collar;
  • a set of bolts and hinges with which the headboard is attached to the wall or bed frame;
  • the required number of buttons, buttons. It is better to stay on metal ones, since plastic buttons have impractical legs. You will need ordinary buttons with holes to fasten on the wrong side;
  • needles are thick and durable;
  • threads - nylon threads are suitable, they are quite strong.

From the tools you will need:

  • a jigsaw is a necessary tool when you need to make curly headboard do-it-yourself beds;
  • furniture stapler - it is more reliable to take a metal one, with a device for staples of different sizes;
  • drill and drills - without them it is impossible to make the necessary holes;
  • construction goats - useful for dissolution large sheets plywood;
  • knife with a wide blade and scissors;
  • ordinary hammer and screwdriver;
  • a set of sewing accessories - necessary when decorating.

Tools

To make a headboard with your own hands, you need to process the base. If the old bed serves as the basis, first of all, you need to rid the frame of the old sheathing. Then, on the inside, boards or plywood cut along the contour are bolted along the length. If desired, you can increase the length of the headboard with the help of special bars, putting them on staples for upholstering. Don't add too many details. If you need to make a wooden headboard with your own hands, then wooden boards are used as the material for the backrest, which can be arranged in any order.

Then you need to make holes at the head with a drill. To do this, you can use a perforated panel on which marks are visible. But these devices have a high price, quickly become unusable, and it is irrational to use them to mark the right places.

A do-it-yourself master class on making a bed clearly demonstrates all stages of work. The production steps are as follows:

  • determine the main point of the head of the bed;
  • connect the found point with the middle hole on the perforated grid;
  • from this place, retreat down four rows - from here you should start applying;
  • through the holes with a marker, put marks in the right places;
  • note the first point. It is considered fourth down from the center. Then you need to find the eighth point - it is located on the eighth mark horizontally. So we mark the points to the end of the row in both directions, then we make such marks vertically;
  • the entire headboard should be marked in this way in a checkerboard pattern, while four points must be retreated horizontally and vertically from the marked ones;
  • marks must be placed on the entire top of the headboard;
  • around the entire perimeter of the headboard you need to leave 10 centimeters;
  • using a drill, start drilling holes. Do not make them too big, a diameter the size of a needle will suffice. If there is a frame at the back of the product, it must be drilled.

You can circle the already transferred holes on the perforated plate so as not to forget what has already been done

Do not apply points to the very edges of the headboard, leave a few centimeters intact

Works taking into account the type of upholstered headboard

To make the bedroom look new, it is enough to update a certain element of the bed, in particular, it will be enough to update the head of the bed, making this element with your own hands. Today, the most popular is the soft front of the bed, from which the bed looks comfortable and cozy. There are several options for how to make a wooden bed and elements for it with your own hands.

Carriage tie technique

The name of this method has its roots in the distant past, when carriages were decorated with the help of such decoration. Today it is successfully used for finishing various pieces of furniture. The effect of such a finish is manifested if a dense fabric is used as the material, which looks great in the form of folds. The carriage screed involves making a pattern in the manner of rhombuses or squares. In the role of rivets, large buttons upholstered in the same fabric, large beads are used.

To make a carriage headboard with your own hands, you will need:

  • plywood sheet - the basis of the product;
  • fabric for decoration;
  • thick foam rubber, synthetic winterizer;
  • buttons on the leg for rivets,
  • drill for drilling holes;
  • pointed knife;
  • stapler for furniture with staples;
  • fasteners and screws;
  • nylon thread, twine;
  • scissors, glue, crochet hook.

These devices will help craftsmen in creating not only individual parts of the bed, but also in making the bed.

First you need to take a sheet of plywood, from which, if necessary, the shape of the product itself is created. Next, cut out the foam rubber blank. Markings are made on it in a checkerboard pattern of places where buttons will be located. With the help of a knife edge, holes are cut in these places. Experts recommend making such holes using a metal pipe. The pipe is heated, applied to the right places, and two holes are obtained at once.

We put the foam rubber on the base and mark the places for making holes with a marker. In these places we make holes with a diameter of not more than 8 mm. We glue the foam rubber to the plywood so that the holes on these two materials completely coincide. We put a synthetic winterizer on top with a margin so that there is 5 cm more around the edges. We place the main fabric with a margin of about 10 cm around the entire perimeter. We turn the plywood over with all the materials on it, and with the help of a furniture stapler we fix the fabric from the inside.

It is advisable to use buttons on the leg, into which it will be possible to thread a lace 15 cm long and tie a knot. We attach a button with a cord to the desired hole and insert a crochet hook from the side of the plywood. We cling to the lace and thread it into the desired hole. We stretch the button as much as possible and fasten it with staples. We do this step with all the buttons. When the headboard is completely covered, we fasten the fasteners with the help of self-tapping screws and hang it on the wall. Following the technology, the masters will be able to get recommendations on the issue - how to make a headboard with your own hands, to cover it with leather or other dense material.

Furniture shield and foam rubber

Holes on the foam rubber can be made with a heated pipe

Lay the foam on the plywood and mark the holes with a pencil. Drill holes with a 8mm wood drill bit.

Glue the foam to the plywood. Make sure that the holes on the foam rubber and in the plywood match.

Syntepon laying

Fabric fastening

Preparing the buttons

Button attachment

Pull the cord tight and staple it securely to the back.

Attach with self-tapping screws and hang on the wall

Nail ornament

You can also make a do-it-yourself bed with a soft headboard using the nail ornament method for the front. The bed will look original and will not require large material and physical costs. Appearance the scheme is similar to the carriage tie method.

For work, you need the following materials and tools:

  • a sheet of plywood of a certain thickness;
  • upholstery fabric;
  • nails;
  • scissors and glue;
  • soft materials - synthetic winterizer or batting;
  • stapler with a set of staples.

Plywood should be cut to the required size for the headboard. From above we fit several layers of soft material with a margin around the perimeter. Each layer is glued together. On the wrong side, we attach the glued batting with a stapler and stretch it. We apply a layer of glue to the surface, and carefully apply the main fabric. It must be properly smoothed and pressed down to avoid bumps and bubbles. When the fabric sticks and dries, it must be secured with staples from the back.

The upholstery of the head of the bed with your own hands can be decorated with a pattern of nails. To this end, on the front of the bed we make a frame around the entire perimeter. We put a mark for two points in opposite corners at the same distance. We drive in nails here, tie a lace on the hats and stretch it. It turns out a straight line, which will play the role of a slope. On this line we make marks at the required distance for the remaining nails. They can be done in a checkerboard pattern, or in any arrangement. We hammer nails or furniture buttons into the marked places. If the headboard will be hung on the wall, we install the necessary fasteners. For those craftsmen who can make a bed with their own hands, this algorithm will not be a problem.
