A detailed description from several sources: “Agapit Pechersk prayer helps with what” - in our non-profit weekly religious magazine.

Memory: June 1 / June 14, September 28 / October 11 (Cathedral of the Reverend Fathers of the Kiev Pechersk, resting in the Near Caves)

Agapit of Pechersk is a humble ascetic and a skilled herbalist. He healed Vladimir Monomakh from a serious illness, miraculously avoided poisoning from an envious Armenian doctor, who later, seeing the holiness of Agapit, repented and became a monk. One of the heavenly patrons of pious doctors. People turn to St. Agapit with prayer in illness and sorrow.

Troparion to St. Agapit of Pechersk, tone 5

Jealous of the God-bearing Anthony's humility, like some kind of healing potion, you healed the sick, Reverend Agapit, thus convincing the doctor that he was unfaithful, you guided him on the path of salvation. Heal our illnesses too and pray to the Lord for those who sing your praises.

Second troparion to St. Agapit of Pechersk, tone 2

You rejoiced in the great faith of correction, in the cave seclusion, as if on the water of repose, the Reverend Father Agapit, who are ignited by the fire of Divine love, by vigil and prayer you achieved dispassion and you appeared equal to the angels on earth. Through his prayers, O Christ God, save our souls.

Kontakion to St. Agapit of Pechersk, tone 6

This doctor is remarkable, wonderful, revealing your undoubted faith, denouncing the Armenian unbelief and leading him to piety. When you were near death, you asked God for the continuation of your life and, having thus miraculously assured him, you brought him to Christ, standing before Him in joy, praying about us, reverend.

Glorification of Saint Agapit of Pechersk

We bless you, Reverend Father Agapit, and honor your holy memory, teacher of monks and interlocutor of angels.

First prayer to St. Agapit of Pechersk, free doctor

Oh, all-blessed Agapit, earthly angel and heavenly man! We fall to you with faith and love and pray to you diligently: show us, humble and sinners, your holy intercession; for it is not a sin for our sake, the imams of the freedom of the children of God to ask our Lord and Master for our needs, but to you, a favorable prayer book, we offer to Him and ask you with zeal for many: ask us from His goodness for beneficial gifts for our souls and bodies: the right faith, love for everyone is unfeigned, in those suffering - patience, those obsessed with serious illnesses - healing from ailments, under the burden of sorrows and misfortunes that are unbearable, those who fall and despair of their lives will receive quick relief and deliverance through your prayers. Do not forget, blessed father, your holy monastery, which always honors you, and keep it and all who live and strive in it and come to worship there, unharmed from the temptations of the devil and all evil. When our departure from this temporary life and migration to eternity arrives, do not deprive us of your heavenly help, but with your prayers bring us all into the haven of salvation and reveal us to be the all-bright Kingdom of Christ, so that we sing and glorify the ineffable bounties of the Lover of Mankind, God, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, and yours, together with the Venerables Anthony and Theodosius, is a fatherly intercession forever and ever. Amen.

Second prayer to St. Agapit of Pechersk, free doctor

Reverend Father Agapit! Look upon us mercifully and lead those who are devoted to the earth to the heights of heaven. You are a mountain in heaven, we are on earth below, removed from you not only by place, but by our sins and iniquities, but we will run to you and cry: teach us to walk in your way, enlighten and guide us. Your entire holy life has been a mirror of every virtue. Don’t stop, servant of God, crying out to the Lord for us. By your intercession, ask from our All-Merciful God the peace of His Church, under the sign of the militant cross, agreement in faith and unity of wisdom, destruction of vanity and schism, affirmation in good deeds, healing for the sick, consolation for the sad, intercession for the offended, help for the needy. Do not disgrace us, who come to you with faith. All Orthodox Christians, having performed your miracles and beneficent mercies, confess you to be their patron and intercessor. Show your ancient mercies, which you helped your father to, do not reject us, their children, who are marching towards you in their footsteps. Standing before your most honorable icon, as I live for you, we fall down and pray: accept our prayers and offer them up on the altar of God’s mercy, so that we may receive your grace and timely help in our needs. Strengthen us, the faint-hearted, and confirm us in faith, so that we undoubtedly hope to receive all the good things from the mercy of the Master through your prayers. Oh, great servant of God! Help all of us who flow to you with faith through your intercession to the Lord and guide us all in peace and repentance, end our lives and move with hope into the blessed bosom of Abraham, where you now joyfully rest, glorifying God with all the saints, glorified in the Trinity, Father and Son and Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Saint Agapit of Pechersk: life and prayers

"Save me, God!". Thank you for visiting our website, before you start studying the information, we ask you to subscribe to our VKontakte group Prayers for every day. Also add to the YouTube channel Prayers and Icons. "God bless you!".

In everyone's life, sooner or later situations happen when a person, even one who does not believe in miracles, goes to church and worships the saints, hoping for a miracle. On the one hand, this may indicate strengthening of faith. On the other hand, everyone must understand that without faith there is no miracle. Speaking about saints, it should be noted that in the Orthodox world there is a fairly large number of saints, before whom believers bow and pray with requests. One of the most revered is Saint Agapit of Pechersk.

Brief life of the saint

The Monk Agapit of Pechersk is from Kyiv. Lived in the 11th century. The monk was from Lyubech, which is located near Chernigov. He was tonsured to St. Mount Athos. When he came to Kyiv, for settlement he chose one of the caves in the wooded mountains, which was located next to the Dnieper River. His ascetic life brought together quite a large number of people who wanted to live under his leadership and lead a monastic life. This was the beginning of the creation of the Kiev-Pechersk Monastery.

Agapit of Kiev-Pechersk wanted to receive healing of the soul through tonsure into the Ionic rank. After he achieved what he wanted, he served very zealously. He followed the angelic life of St. Anthony. Agapit was guided by his instructions. It so happened that the monk witnessed how Anthony healed the sick with his prayer. Moreover, he hid his talent by handing over medicinal herbs from his food.

Watching what was happening, Agapit began to compete in feats. When one of the brethren fell ill, he left his cell and went to serve the sick person. He put him to bed, carried him in his arms for walks and prayed for his healing. His prayer healed more than one person. Word of the healings quickly spread throughout Kyiv and sick people from all over the city began to come to him so that he could heal them.

At the same time, an Armenian doctor lived in Kyiv. He had a different gift. When he looked at a sick person, he could instantly tell not only how serious the illness was, but also accurately name the date of death. When he saw a seriously ill person and knew that his death would soon come, he refused to treat him. One day, Prince Vsevolod fell ill with a mortal illness. The Armenian plunged him into despair and predicted his death in 8 days.

The prince was brought to the Kiev Pechersk Lavra to the Monk Agapit. The monk made a prayer for him, gave him medicinal herbs, which he himself used and a miracle happened, the prince was healed. The Armenian did not like this act, and he ordered Agapit to be poisoned. But he failed.

When Agapit became very ill, the same Armenian doctor came to him and predicted death in three days. But the monk said that the Lord would take him to him only after three months, to which the doctor made a vow that if his prediction was not fulfilled, he would go to serve in a monastery. The Monk Agapit the Pechersk physician, without compensation, died three months later in 1095. After his death, the Armenian came to the abbot of the Pechersk Monastery and repented, after which he took monastic vows.

It should be noted that the saint is still revered today. There are a lot of secrets and various guesses associated with his personality. But most likely, all of them will probably remain unsolved. Everyone knows him as the first doctor of Kievan Rus.

Agapit of Pechersk: icon and relics

It's no secret that the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra is famous throughout the CIS. All of Europe has heard stories of how many miracles happen on its territory. To this day, the Pechersk Caves with their secrets attract many parishioners who want to reveal the secrets. It is in this place that the relics of the saint are located. Also in the temple of the Pechersk Lavra there is an icon of St. Agapit. Believers from all over the world come to her to venerate the saint and pray for help.

In addition, on the territory of the monastery there is a historical museum, which contains busts and paintings of many saints. Among them you can see a bust of the healer Agapit of Pechersk.

Prayer of Agapit of Pechersk changing fate

The saint's memorial day is June 14. In the evening on the eve of this day, a religious procession is traditionally held across the territory of the Lavra. He is revered along with such healers as Panteleimon. There are many stories that confirm that miracles of healing from veneration of the relics and icon of the saint occur to this day.

They say that if you bow to the relics, you will feel an inexplicable warmth from them. It’s interesting, but the fact today is that even in the most secluded corners of the world, the miracles that took place through the prayer of Agapit of Pechersk for healing are known.

And so, what do the believers ask the Reverend in prayer for:

  • About healing from serious incurable diseases. Such, for example, as onco.
  • Healing from cholelithiasis.
  • About healing the blind,
  • Healing liver diseases and much more.

One man tells how he became infected against his will with a disease caused by a bacterium. He developed a fever, severe sweating and ulcers all over his body. He was given a terrible diagnosis that cannot be treated all over the world. After hearing this, he began to sincerely pray to the healers Luke, Panteleimon and Agapit of Pechersk. And a miracle happened, he was healed.

Arriving at the hospital for examination, the doctors froze in amazement; not a trace remained of the disease.

In addition to the prayer before the icon of the saint, an akathist is also read, which can be found in the prayer book.

The prayer to Agapit of Pechersk sounds like this:

Reverend Father Agapit! Look upon us mercifully and lead those who are devoted to the earth to the heights of heaven. You are a mountain in heaven, we are on earth below, removed from you, not only by place, but by our sins and iniquities, but we run to you and cry: teach us to walk in your way, teach us and guide us. Your entire holy life has been a mirror of every virtue. Do not stop, servant of God, crying to the Lord for us. By your intercession, ask from our All-Merciful God the peace of His Church, under the sign of the militant cross, agreement in faith and unity of wisdom, destruction of vanity and schism, confirmation in good deeds, healing for the sick, consolation for the sad, intercession for the offended, help for the needy. Do not disgrace us, who come to you with faith.

All Orthodox Christians, having performed your miracles and beneficent mercies, confess you to be their patron and intercessor. Reveal your ancient mercies, and to whom you helped the Father, do not reject us, their children, who are marching towards you in their footsteps. Standing before your most honorable icon, as I live for you, we fall down and pray: accept our prayers and offer them up on the altar of God’s mercy, so that we may receive your grace and timely help in our needs.

Strengthen our cowardice and confirm us in faith, so that we undoubtedly hope to receive all the good things from the mercy of the Master through your prayers. Oh, great servant of God! Help all of us who flow to you with faith through your intercession to the Lord, and guide us all in peace and repentance, end our lives and move with hope into the blessed bosom of Abraham, where you now rest joyfully in your labors and struggles, glorifying God with all the saints , in the Trinity glorified, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

The realities of our life

Friends and enemies

Saint Reverend Agapit and miracles through our prayers to him.

June 14 Orthodox Church honors the memory of one of the great ascetics - Venerable Agapit, hegumen of Pechersk, a famous doctor from the times of Kievan Rus.

The previous evening, according to tradition, in a religious procession with the participation of the clergy of the Kiev Pechersk Lavra and believers, the relics of St. Agapit were transferred from the Near Caves to the Refectory Church, where the All-Night Vigil was celebrated.

Today, the clergy and brethren of the monastery performed the gratuitous singing of the akathist and the Divine Liturgy at the shrine with the relics of the doctor. On this day, many believers bowed to Agapit of Pechersk. Those who venerated the saint in an open shrine spoke of feeling warmth from the relics, a sensation similar to touching a living person.

Today is the day of remembrance of St. Agapit of Pechersk, who is known all over the world.

We venerate St. Agapit on a par with the great martyr and healer Panteleimon and a number of other healers, to whose prayerful and gracious help we resort. Today the Monk Agapit of Pechersk is known all over the world. The abbots of many churches ask for pieces of his relics, but there were always so many requests that at one time the Spiritual Council of the Kiev Pechersk Lavra decided not to distribute them.

Today about miracles through prayers to St. Agapit and the Pechersk Fathers they know even in Alaska. Many miracles are happening these days, they cannot be counted. We are all sick, we come to the monk, we pray, we ask for healing. People don't go to an empty well. Millions of people come to the caves of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra to visit the monks.

At one time, Prince Vladimir Monomakh came to Agapit of Pechersk, whom the monk healed of a fatal illness. Who from famous people of our time prayed at the shrine of a saint?

The Monk Agapit of Pechersk healed everyone who came to him, regardless of rank and position, family and nobility.

Bill Clinton visited the Lavra three times and visited the shrine of St. Agapit. I stood for a long time, was late for important meetings, but did not want to leave. He said that he received healing when he first arrived.

Other famous personalities also visited the relics of Agapit. Vladimir Putin, Dmitry Medvedev, Ilham Aliyev... Chapters European countries. I can't remember them all. Many came.

Although today, if we talk about people known or unknown, they change so quickly that before you have time to see them, they are no longer there. Believers, no matter what positions they hold at one time or another, come to the Church. Many people talked about miracles in their lives. For example, a girl recently received her sight. Cancer patients are cured. I know cases of healing of those who had gallstone disease.

Oil illuminated in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra on the relics of St. Agapit for various diseases.

As Metropolitan Pavel of Chernobyl says, according to his diagnosis, he should no longer live. But he prayed to the venerable fathers of Pechersk, the healer Panteleimon, and Saint Luke (Voino-Yasenetsky), and remained alive. The doctors themselves are surprised, admitting that it was beyond their power to save him. Because this bacterium, which entered the Metropolitan’s body against his will, has very terrible consequences - the person dies. Temperature, sweating, abscesses... But Metropolitan Paul feel the gracious help of not only St. Agapit of Pechersk, but also Damian, Hypatius, Anthony, Theodosius and all the miracle workers of Pechersk. These are truly our intercessors and prayer books.

From the Patericon we know about many miracles that took place in the Kiev Pechersk Lavra.

Many miracles are happening today. Of the modern ones, the first and most important miracle is that, through the prayers of the Kiev-Pechersk fathers, the Lavra was reopened in 1988. The second miracle - the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the main cathedral church of the Kiev Pechersk Lavra, was recreated.

Third. How many seriously ill people come to the Kiev Pechersk Lavra! So many. And according to the sayings of many experts, having received their dose of radiation in the years after Chernobyl disaster, many of those people could have died. The Orthodox people have great grace from God through the prayers of the Kiev-Pechersk fathers. And many touched this grace in the laurel. Therefore, speaking of miracles, “I suppose that the world itself could not contain books that could be written” (John 21:25). In the words of the Evangelist John the Theologian.

The Lord has no dead, cases are associated with this miraculous phenomenon saints today.

The Pechersk Fathers - they are always with us, they have not died, they are alive, they are all here. In the hospital, the lying priests and believers saw the venerable fathers of Pechersk. This is not a hallucination. This happened, for example, with Metropolitan Pavel on the second day after the operation, which took place in February, during the tragic events on the Maidan. Here is how Metropolitan Pavel himself talks about it:"This was the second day of the experience. They told me that they were seizing the Lavra. I began to pray to the venerable fathers of Pechersk. And I saw that the Monks Anthony and Theodosius of Pechersk with the holy brethren came out from the Economic Gate of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, walked around the Holy Gates and entered the lower territory, near the hospital that we want to open. And we went into the Lavra... I called Father Zinon: “Don’t worry. No one will come to the Lavra.”

I had surgery on February 18th. This was on the 19th or 20th of February. They call me and say: “Vladyka, they are seizing the Lavra!” I prayed, saw the religious procession of the venerable fathers of Pechersk, called the brethren and said: “The Lord and the Mother of God will not leave us.” I saw this myself. In reality."

The saints of the Kiev-Pechersk were healers. They treated, first of all, with prayer - this is an invisible fact. And the visible fact is that they gave people the herbs that they themselves ate. Because every herb has healing powers. The Lord arranged it this way. Only we have already switched over to chemicals. But if you use the herbs that grow correctly... The same loboda, a wild plant, became useful from the hands of Prokhor Lobodnik. For those who, with his blessing, took this herb during famine, it was bread; through the prayers of the righteous, the ashes became salt. And whoever took it without blessing - it was a bitter potion, unpleasant to the taste.

The Lord arranged everything wisely. It gives us the opportunity to take linden, chamomile, thyme... Today it is called homeopathy. But if these plant extracts were created with prayer, it would be completely different.

My icon of Saint Agapit.

The Lavra monks were herbalists.

They ate grass and gave it to the sick. But most of all, it was not the grass that helped, but the power of prayers. Let's remember their lives. One of the monks read without lighting candles. There was such a glow in his dungeon that he could see the letters. The hermits had enormous fortitude. Stay 30-40 years underground without going outside! They acquired the grace of the Holy Spirit. After all, it doesn’t come naturally. It is given to a person at birth. But the abundance of the grace of the Holy Spirit is difficult to acquire through fasting, prayer, and abstinence of mental and physical feelings. And the Lord rewards such warriors.

The exploits of the saints of the Kiev-Pechersk people are great. To be buried in the ground for thirty years, like St. John the Long-Suffering, in order to defeat the lustful thoughts of the enemy of fornication - not everyone can consciously do this. You know, when you read the Patericon of Kiev-Pechersk, you get goosebumps. At the dawn of Christianity in Rus', these great men were no different in their exploits from the Egyptian hermits. Although Christianity has certainly been on our land since the days of St. Andrew the First-Called. Because the apostles left priests and bishops where they visited. But how this happened exactly on our land is unknown. If the Apostle Paul wrote about his works, then Andrew the First-Called did not write anything about himself. But it seems to me that, bearing such grace of the Holy Spirit, he probably left his proteges here in the Holy Spirit.

When I think about this, I think how unhappy and poor we are. Our television and press, unfortunately, tell people little about the spiritual wealth that we have. If only people knew their history, their heavenly patrons. Then there would be fewer problems. Everyone would see his neighbor as a man, a friend and a brother.

The first thing you need to find out is the life story of your heavenly patron and pray to him. A Christian must know the life of the saint in whose honor he is baptized. We must learn his troparion, kontakion, and magnification so that we can ask for help at any moment. Who else but he can invisibly appear before the Lord against the spirits of wickedness in high places. A Christian must know the prayer “Our Father...”, the invocation of the grace of the Holy Spirit - the prayer “To the Heavenly King...”.

So many people are sick these days, why do some pray - the Lord helps them, hears them, while others do not. Why are people not healed as often as in apostolic times?

I think this is all because we pray with inattention. Not everyone receives communion with faith and worthiness, and that is why they get sick. Today, not everyone wants to observe fasts, attend evening services, or read the statutory rule of the person fasting for Holy Communion in order to receive communion. If a person asks with faith, then the Lord sends. But if we don’t hear ourselves, how can the Lord hear us?!

For example, you read the morning or evening rule, try to think about it, and it happens that the enemy of the human race knocks you out of your thoughts - look at the clock, see how many pages are left... Some are used to being late for services, others are used to jostling in church, judging their neighbors. And it turns out that the person did not pray, but sinned. And the Lord does not hear him. How can you hear such a person, he doesn’t ask for anything. He only expresses his dissatisfaction - in everything. And he harms himself.

And what is also important is that the Lord asked to devote only one day to Him. The remaining six days were spent on our labors and worries. But we cannot use this day to talk with God.

Or, it happens that during the liturgy a person prays for unknown reasons. In church during the liturgy, it is enough to listen to the peaceful litany - and the person will understand why he came. There are petitions for the peace of the whole world, for the well-being of the Holy Churches of God, for those who hate and slander us, for there to be no shortages and buckets - that is, rain and drought. About a blessed death. About the mercy of the world. Everything is there - you just need to delve into it!

The Lord Himself descends to the throne during the liturgy. He is present in the temple when the Divine Liturgy is celebrated. But unfortunately, many do not feel this because they do not have the fear of God.

For a believer, everything is possible. Why didn't the Lord perform miracles everywhere? Because people didn't believe. The Monk Agapit of Pechersk did not refuse his help to anyone; after praying, he gave people a potion - a visible image of treatment, and the Lord Himself healed - by the power of God, for the sake of His righteous man.

Liturgy cannot be boring. Often people don’t think about anything except their worries - then, of course, it’s boring. They don’t hear “Those who are baptized into Christ...”, “Put aside all worldly concerns now...”, “The cherubim are secretly forming...” Just imagine, you are standing next to the cherubim - and at the liturgy this is so, invisibly. The liturgy and evening worship are composed of petitions, thanksgivings and praises to the Lord. “Let us pray to the Lord in peace,” we ask, all together. We rejoice together with the saints and martyrs.

You can turn to Agapit of Pechersk with all everyday needs. But most often the monk helps in healing illnesses and illnesses. One day, a woman with cancer was brought to the Pechersk Lavra in a sheet. It was brought three times. The third time she left the caves on her own.

Metropolitan Paul of Glyfada from Athens was diagnosed with cancer; it was already in the last stage. While praying in the Lavra caves, he drank water from the holy springs of Anthony and Theodosius of Pechersk. And when he arrived home, he was examined - nothing was found on him. He said: “The monks healed me.”

The Gospels say that healing miracles come in different forms. When the disciples asked Christ about the blind man: who sinned, his parents or him? To which they received the answer: “neither he nor his parents sinned, but this was so that the works of God might be revealed in him.”

Miracles can happen at different times to different people. Maybe, through the prayers of family and friends. And even those who have already died. It is said that the blessing continues to the seventh generation. But people who have died, they can only pray for the living. And here we can pray for both the living and the dead, and feel their prayer for us. The Lord can show His mercy on any person, show His mercy towards him.

“Reverend Father Agapite, pray to God for us”. You can pray in your own words, but at the same time understand what you are asking for.

“Lord, I ask for Your mercy!” How do I know what I really need on earth? The Lord created me, and I will indicate: give me this or that?

Prayers to St. Agapit of Pechersk, free doctor

The Monk Agapit of Pechersk was tonsured into monasticism by the Monk Anthony of Pechersk. Agapit healed the brethren of the monastery with prayer and herbs, selflessly and tirelessly caring for the sick. He healed not only physical ailments, but also mental ones. The laity also came to Agapit, who was granted the gift of healing. Often the monk healed even those sick people whom other doctors had already predicted imminent death. Thus, the holy, unpaid doctor was able to cure the Chernigov prince Vladimir Monomakh by sending him boiled milk. After his recovery, Vladimir himself came to the monastery, wanting to thank Agapit, but the saint disappeared without accepting the offerings.

During the time of Agapit, there lived in Kyiv an experienced doctor, who was once approached by a terminally ill man. The doctor could not help the patient, and he turned to Saint Agapit. The blessed healer with prayer gave him a taste of food from the monastery meal, and the patient recovered. The doctor, fueled by envy, wanted to poison Agapit of Pechersk, but the Lord preserved the monk, not allowing the poison to take effect.

A curious story is the conversion of an envious doctor who came to repentance, ashamed of the righteous man. It so happened that Saint Agapit fell seriously ill. This doctor claimed that the saint had only three days left to live. He also said that if after these three days the monk does not die, it will be a miracle of God and then he will take monastic vows.

Despite the disappointing forecasts, Saint Agapit died three months after the onset of his illness. The proud doctor kept his promise: when he came to the abbot of the Pechersk Monastery, he repented and took monastic vows.

Troparion, tone 5

Jealous of the God-bearing Anthony, with humility, like a certain healing potion, you healed the sick, Reverend Agapit, thereby convincing the doctor that he was unfaithful, and guided you on the path of salvation. Heal our illnesses too and pray to the Lord for those who sing your praises.

Kontakion, tone 6

This doctor is remarkable, more wonderful, revealing your undoubted faith, denouncing the Armenian unbelief and leading him to piety, when you were near death, you asked God for the continuation of your life and, having thus miraculously assured him, you brought him to Christ. Standing before Him in joy, pray for us, Reverend.

Prayer

O all-blessed Agapit, earthly Angel and heavenly man! We fall to you with faith and love and pray diligently: show us your holy intercession to the humble and sinful; Behold, for the sake of our sin, the imams are not free to ask the children of God for our needs to our Lord and Master, but to you, a favorable prayer book, we offer to Him and ask you with zeal for many: ask us from His goodness for useful gifts to our souls and bodies, faith to the right, love for everyone is unfeigned, patience in suffering, those obsessed with serious illnesses - healing from ailments, under the burden of sorrows and misfortunes, those who fall intolerable and despairing of their lives will receive quick relief and deliverance through your prayers. Do not forget, blessed father, this holy monastery, which always honors you, but keep it and all who live and strive in it and who come to worship there unharmed from the temptations of the devil and all evil. When our departure from this temporary life arrives, and our migration to eternity, do not deprive us of your heavenly help, but with your prayers bring us all into the haven of salvation and reveal us to be the heirs of the all-bright Kingdom of Christ, so that we sing and glorify the ineffable generosity of the Lover of Mankind, God the Father and The Son and the Holy Spirit and yours, together with the Monks Anthony and Theodosius, are your fatherly intercession forever and ever. Amen.

Second prayer

Reverend Father Agapit! Look upon us mercifully and lead those who are devoted to the earth to the heights of heaven. You are a mountain in heaven, we are on earth below, removed from you, not only by place, but by our sins and iniquities, but we run to you and cry: teach us to walk in your way, teach us and guide us. Your entire holy life has been a mirror of every virtue. Do not stop, servant of God, crying to the Lord for us. Amen.

Prayer three

Oh, sacred head, reverend father, most blessed Abvo Agapit, do not forget your poor to the end, but always remember us in your holy and auspicious prayers to God. Remember your flock, which you yourself shepherded, and do not forget to visit your children. Pray for us, holy father, for your spiritual children, as if you have boldness towards the Heavenly King, do not be silent for us to the Lord, and do not despise us, who honor you with faith and love. Remember us unworthy at the Throne of the Almighty, and do not stop praying for us to Christ God, for the grace has been given to you to pray for us. We do not imagine that you are dead, even though you have passed away from us in body, but even after death you remain alive. Do not give up on us in spirit, keeping us from the arrows of the enemy and all the charms of the devil and the snares of the devil, our good shepherd. Even though your relics are always visible before our eyes, your holy soul is with the angelic hosts, with the disembodied faces, with heavenly forces, those who stand at the Almighty Throne, are having fun with dignity. Knowing that you are truly alive even after death, we bow down to you and pray to you: pray for us to Almighty God, for the benefit of our souls, and ask us time for repentance, so that we may pass from earth to heaven without restraint, from the bitter ordeals of the demons of the air princes and may we be delivered from eternal torment, and may we be heirs of the Heavenly Kingdom with all the righteous, who from all eternity have pleased our Lord Jesus Christ, to Him belongs all glory, honor and worship, with His Beginning Father and with His Most Holy and Good and Life-Giving Spirit, now and ever and ever. Amen.

Prayer to St. Damian, presbyter, healer of Pechersk

The Monk Damian was a monk of the Kiev-Pechersk monastery during the abbot of the Monk Theodosius. About the Venerable Damian, Saint Nestor writes in the life of the Venerable Theodosius that in everything he imitated the equal-angelic life of his mentor, zealously striving in all sorts of virtues. Many testified to his good life, humility and listening. They said about him that he was a great faster and ascetic, who until the very day of his death tasted nothing but bread and water.

For his pious life, he was honored to receive from the Lord the gift of miracles, especially the grace of healing the sick. With humility and uncomplaining submission, considering himself unworthy of the gift of healing, Damian prayed over the sick and anointed them with holy oil. By God's grace everyone received healing and left healthy.

The relics of this saint rest in the caves of St. Anthony. According to the Pechersk Patericon, he is called a healer “who healed the sick with prayer and holy oil.”

Memorial Day of the Monk Damian, presbyter, healer of Pechersk, is October 18 (October 5, old style).

Prayer

Reverend Father Damiana! Amen.

Second prayer

Oh, sacred head, reverend father, most blessed Abvo Damian, do not forget your poor to the end, but always remember us in your holy and auspicious prayers to God. Remember your flock, which you yourself shepherded, and do not forget to visit your children. Pray for us, holy father, for your spiritual children, as if you have boldness towards the Heavenly King, do not remain silent for us to the Lord, and do not despise us, who honor you with faith and love. Even though your relics are always visible before our eyes, your holy soul with the angelic hosts, with the disembodied faces, with the heavenly powers, standing at the Almighty Throne, rejoices with dignity. Knowing that you are truly alive even after death, we bow down to you and pray to you: pray for us to Almighty God, for the benefit of our souls, and ask us time for repentance, so that we may pass from earth to heaven without restraint, from the bitter ordeals of the demons of the air princes and may we be delivered from eternal torment, and may we be heirs of the Heavenly Kingdom with all the righteous, who from all eternity have pleased our Lord Jesus Christ; to Him belongs all glory, honor and worship, with His Beginning Father and with His Most Holy and Good and Life-Giving Spirit, now and ever and ever. Amen.

Prayers to the Holy Great Martyr Barbara of Iliopolis

The Holy Great Martyr Barbara was born in the city of Iliopolis (present-day Syria) under Emperor Maximian (305–311) into a noble pagan family. Barbara's father, Dioscorus, having lost his wife early, was passionately attached to his only daughter. To save beautiful girl from prying eyes and at the same time deprive her of communication with Christians, he built a special castle for his daughter, from where she left only with the permission of her father.

Contemplating the beauty of God's world from the height of the tower, Varvara often felt a desire to know its true Creator. When the teachers assigned to her said that the world was created by the gods whom her father revered, she mentally said: “The gods whom my father reveres were made by human hands. How could these gods create such a bright sky and such earthly beauty? There must be one God, Whom was not created by human hand, but by He Himself, having His own being.” Thus Saint Barbara learned from the creatures of the visible world to know the Creator.

Dioscorus decided that over time his daughter’s mood would change, she would have an inclination towards marriage, and allowed her to leave the tower. Soon Varvara met local Christian women who told her about the Triune God, about the ineffable Divinity of Jesus Christ, about His incarnation from the Most Pure Virgin and about His free suffering and Resurrection. After some time, Varvara accepted holy Baptism, after which she turned to God with even greater love.

The father, having learned that Varvara had converted to Christianity, was furious: he took his daughter to the city ruler and said: “I renounce her because she rejects my gods, and if she does not turn to them again, she will not be my daughter. Torment her, sovereign ruler, as your will pleases.”

Despite all the persuasion, the saint refused to renounce the faith of Christ, and with wise speech she denounced the errors of idolaters, confessing Jesus Christ as God. Then they began to beat the saint severely with ox sinews and rub her wounds with a hard hair shirt. In the evening the martyr was taken to prison, and the next morning they found Saint Barbara completely healthy and unharmed, without a single wound after the torture. After new tortures, Saint Barbara was executed: her daughter’s head was cut off with her own hands by her father, who persisted in paganism.

They resort to the Holy Great Martyr Barbara with a prayer request not to allow the end of life from a sudden illness without the possibility of Christian preparation for death, and in addition, for the healing and relief of any serious illnesses.

Memorial Day of the Great Martyr Varvara of Iliopol - December 17 (December 4, old style).

Troparion, tone 8

Let us honor Saint Barbara: crush the enemy’s nets and, like a bird, get rid of them with the help and weapon of the Cross, all-honorable one.

Kontakion, tone 4

In the Trinity, piously sung by following God, the passion-bearer, you dulled the idolatry of veneration, but in the midst of the struggle of the suffering, Varvaro, you were not afraid of the tormentors of repression, you were wise and wise, singing with great voice always: I honor the Trinity, One Divinity.

Prayer

Holy glorious and all-praised Great Martyr Varvaro! Gathered today in your Divine temple, people who worship the race of your relics and kiss with love, your suffering as a martyr, and in them the Martyr Christ himself, who gave you not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for Him, with pleasing praises, we pray you, known to the desires of our intercessor: pray with us and for us, beseeching God from His mercy, that He may mercifully hear us asking for His goodness, and not leave us with all the necessary petitions for salvation and life, and grant a Christian death to our belly - painless , I am not ashamed, I am peaceful, I participate in the Divine Mysteries, and to everyone, in every place, in every sorrow and situation who require His love for mankind and help, He will give His great mercy, so that by the grace of God and your warm intercession, in soul and body always abiding health, we glorify the wondrous one in His saints, the God of Israel, who does not withdraw His help from us always, now and ever and unto ages of ages, Amen.

Second prayer

Most wise and all-fair saint of the Great Martyr of Christ Varvaro! Blessed are you, for the Precious wisdom of God has not been revealed to you by flesh and blood, but God the Heavenly Father Himself, like you, believe for the sake of the one abandoned, expelled and killed by an unfaithful father, received into His beloved daughter; for the corruption of earthly property, the inheritance of the flesh is freely incorruptible; the labors of martyrdom by the repose of the Heavenly One changed the Kingdom; glorify your temporary life, cut short by His death for His sake, with veneration, as if you have placed your soul from the faces of the Heavenly spirits, but keep your body, placed on earth in their angelic temple, by the angel of the commandment intact, honorably and miraculously.

Blessed art thou, Christ the Son of God, the Heavenly Bridegroom, the despised Virgin, who desired to have the kindness of thy Caregiver, who through suffering, wounds, pleasure, cutting, and the very heads by beheading, like the dearest creatures, thou didst strive to adorn: so, like a wife, she is faithful to her head - to the husband, Christ, in spirit and body, united inseparably, saying: I have found Him, whom my soul loved, I held Him and did not forsake Him. Blessed are you, for the Holy Spirit has rested upon you, having been taught by the spiritual to reason spiritually, you have rejected all the spirits of wickedness in idols, as if they were destructive, and having come to know the One God the Spirit, as a true worshiper, you deigned to worship in spirit and truth, preaching: “I honor the Trinity, One Divinity."

You glorified this Holy Trinity in life and death through your confession and suffering; pray for me, my intercessor, as I have always been the triple faith, love and hope of virtue. This is where I venerate the Holy Trinity. Imam is the lamp of faith, but is devoid of good deeds of oil: you, wise virgin, give your suffering flesh, filled with blood and shedding wounds, like a lamp of yours, so that by decorating my soul, I will be honored for you in the Heavenly Palace.

I am a stranger on earth and a stranger, like all my fathers; eternal blessings to the heiress and a blessed supper in the Kingdom of Heaven to the partaker, as in the journey of life, the Divine Meal of pleasure, and in the exodus from the world desired, vouchsafe me guidance; and when at the end I begin to lull you into the sleep of death, then touching my exhausted flesh, like sometimes the Angel of Elijah, saying: Arise, eat and drink: for by the grace of the Divine Body and Blood of the Mysteries I will be strengthened in the fortress of that food, the long path of death, even to the Heavenly Mountains : and there, through the three windows of the bathhouse, you first saw Him through the faith of God the Trinity, Him together with you face to face, so that I may be worthy to see and glorify Him forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer three

To you, as a source of true speedy healing and many-wonderful healing, holy virgin Varvaro the Great Martyr, I am weak and fall earnestly to your holy relics, I pray: see the wounds of sin and all-body ulcers, see the weakness of my soul, and this, with your usual mercy and goodness forced, try to heal. Hear the voice of my prayer, do not ignore the groaning brought by my damned heart, and hear my cry, for you are my refuge.

The holy, consubstantial and indivisible Trinity, which you depicted with three windows in the paternal bathhouse, pray for me, a sinner and impatient servant of yours, that he may have mercy on me now and on the day of my death. Worship the Heavenly Father: may He raise me, bowed down and cast down by all my sins, to His praise, and may He always give me the grief of having a heart that is heavenly and not earthly. Pray to Christ the Son of God, who heard your suffering prayer in prison, but who is lazy in prayers, and in the despondency of many, like sitting in prison, will instruct me to quickly move along the path of God’s commandments and give me a fervent desire to pray unceasingly. Call also the Holy Spirit, the purity of the inexhaustible Source, in the suffering labor of thee, the pure virgin, who strengthens and protects from shame with His wings, so that even for me, cold and unclean, a pure heart will be created and a right spirit will be renewed in my womb: moreover, let him call upon me and give strive diligently in a pure life and strengthen me to do good deeds.

I believe that all this is possible for me, O holy one, lead me to the martyr Varvaro, to intercede with the Most Holy Trinity: and if you desire, you are strong in helping me, for you have glorified God in your suffering lands. And we know, holy virgin, that nothing is impossible for you, unless you despise my tears and sighs: for this sake, to the honor of your holy relics, the miraculous race, I fall down and you, your soul abiding in heaven, worshiping, I dare to prayerfully say: may your ears be attentive to the voice my prayers.

May your long-suffering body heal the many souls and bodies of my passion. May your head, bowed to the sword, give my head the water that cleanses sins. Let your powers, mercilessly tread, bind me to the love of God. Let your honest lips block my lips from idle talk and always open to proclaim the praise of the Lord. May your eyes, which see the Trinity light, see my good desire, as if I had turned away my eyes from seeing vanity, but always looked at heavenly bliss. May your hand be cut off and deign to always raise my hand to the Most High and not weave flattery with it. Your breast, mercilessly cut, may we be a strong pillar from the face of the enemy. Let your noses, which quickly pass with a bright light into the chamber of God to the Heavenly Bridegroom, make it so that I also walk in my footsteps for every good work: let the lamp of my feet be the light of my feet in every good work: let the law of the Lord be a lamp for my feet and a light for the paths mine.

May your wounds free me from the wounds of sin. May your blood, shed many times in torment, cleanse my soul and body from all filth. May your death not allow me to die without confession and repentance: for even if you are glorified in any goodness, but in this especially, as everyone who has hope in you and calls upon you for help, he will escape death from impudence, and deliver him from the weaker and less accursed. , pure virgin, great martyr Varvaro, and through your all-powerful prayers grant me the right hand position of Christ the Son of God and hear the voice saying: “good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of your Lord.” Amen.

I bow down to You, help me, Your unworthy servant. Special prayers for certain diseases

Prayers for lower back pain and leg diseases

Venerable Seraphim, Sarov Wonderworker

Saint Seraphim was marked by God's special mercy from infancy. As a child, his mother took him with her to build a temple. It so happened that the boy fell from the bell tower, but the Lord kept him unharmed.

During the serious illness of the youth, the Mother of God, in a dream vision, promised her mother to heal him. Soon, near their house, the Kursk Root Icon “The Sign” of the Most Holy Theotokos was carried in a religious procession. The mother carried the sick man out, he kissed the icon and after that he quickly recovered. At the age of seventeen, the young man had already firmly decided to leave the world.

After two years of monastic labors and feats of obedience, Seraphim became seriously ill and for a long time refused the help of doctors. Three years later, the Mother of God appeared to him with the apostles Peter and John and healed him.

Later, Saint Seraphim was ordained to the rank of hieromonk and began the feat of desert living and solitary prayer in a forest cell, on the banks of the Sarovka River. The devil intensified his war against the ascetic, and the monk took upon himself the feat of pillar-making. For a thousand days and nights, with raised hands, he prayed on the stone: “God, be merciful to me, a sinner.” Powerless to spiritually overthrow the ascetic, the devil sent robbers against the monk, who inflicted mortal wounds on him, but the Mother of God appeared and healed him for the third time.

During one of his serious illnesses, the Mother of God appeared to the ascetic, accompanied by the apostles Paul and John the Theologian, and said: “This is from Our generation.” Only twelve times did Saint Seraphim of Sarov receive visions of the Most Pure Mother of the Lord.

The days of memory of St. Seraphim of Sarov are January 15 (January 2, old style) and August 1 (July 19, old style).

Troparion, tone 4

From your youth you loved Christ, O blessed one, and, having ardently longed for the One who worked, you labored in the desert with unceasing prayer and labor, and having acquired the love of Christ with a tender heart, you appeared as the chosen one beloved of God’s Mother. For this reason, we cry out to you: save us with your prayers, Seraphim, our reverend father.

Kontakion, tone 2

Having left the beauty of the world and the corruption in it, reverend, you moved into the Sarov monastery and, having lived there like an angel, you were the path to salvation for many, for this reason, and Christ glorified you, Father Seraphim, and enriched you with the gift of healings and miracles. In the same way we cry to you: Rejoice, Seraphim, our reverend father.

Prayer

O wonderful Father Seraphim, great Sarov wonderworker, quick and obedient helper to all who come running to you! During the days of your earthly life, no one left you weary and inconsolable, but everyone was blessed with the vision of your face and the benevolent voice of your words. Moreover, the gift of healing, the gift of insight, the gift of healing for weak souls has appeared abundantly in you. When God called you from earthly labors to heavenly rest, your love is not simple from us, and it is impossible to count your miracles, multiplying like the stars of heaven: for all over the end of our earth you appeared to the people of God and granted them healing. In the same way, we cry out to you: O most quiet and meek servant of God, daring prayer-booker towards Him, rejecting none of those who call upon you, offer up your powerful prayer for us to the Lord of Hosts, may He grant us all that is useful in this life and all that is useful for spiritual salvation, yes will protect us from the falls of sins and teach us true repentance, so that we can enter into the eternal without stumbling Heavenly Kingdom, where you now shine in eternal glory, and there sing with all the saints the Life-Giving Trinity until the end of the age. Amen.

Second prayer

O great servant of God, venerable and God-bearing Father Seraphim! Look down from the glory on high upon us, the humble and weak, burdened with many sins, your help and consolation to those who ask. Reach out to us with your mercy and help us to immaculately preserve the commandments of the Lord, to firmly maintain the Orthodox faith, to diligently bring repentance for our sins to God, to gracefully prosper in piety as Christians and to be worthy of your prayerful intercession for us. To her, Holiness of God, hear us praying to you with faith and love, and do not despise us who demand your intercession: now and at the hour of our death, help us and protect us with your prayers from the evil slander of the devil, so that those powers do not possess us, but May we be honored with your help to inherit the bliss of the abode of paradise. We now place our hope in you, merciful Father: be truly a guide to our salvation and lead us to the unevening light of Eternal Life by your God-pleasing intercession at the Throne of the Most Holy Trinity, so that we glorify and sing with all the saints the venerable Name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit forever centuries. Amen.

Prayer three

O Reverend Father Seraphim! Lift up for us, servants of God ( names), your powerful prayer to the Lord of hosts, may He grant us all that is useful in this life and all that is useful for spiritual salvation, may He protect us from the falls of sins and may He teach us true repentance, so that we can enter without stumbling into the eternal Kingdom of Heaven, where you are now in everlasting glory you shine, and there sing with all the saints the Life-Giving Trinity forever and ever.

Righteous Simeon of Verkhoturye

They pray to Saint Righteous Simeon not only for leg diseases, but also for eye diseases and paralysis.

Righteous Simeon of Verkhoturye was a nobleman, but he hid his origins and led the humble life of a poor man. He walked around the villages and sewed sheepskin coats and other outerwear for the poor for free. Deliberately leaving something unfinished, he endured reproaches from customers. The ascetic traveled a lot, but most often lived in the graveyard of the village of Merkushinsky, not far from the city of Verkhoturye (Perm region).

Righteous Simeon of Verkhoturye reposed in 1642, when he was only 35 years old. He was buried in the Merkushinsky graveyard at the Church of the Archangel Michael. The Lord glorified His saint, who left everything earthly for the sake of serving Him alone. In 1692, 50 years after the death of the saint, residents of the village of Merkushinskoye miraculously found the revealed incorruptible body of a righteous man, whose name they had forgotten. Soon, numerous healings began to take place from the relics that appeared. A paralyzed man was healed, and other healings followed.

Righteous Simeon performed many miracles after his death. He often appeared to the sick in their dreams and healed them, admonishing those who had fallen into the vice of drunkenness. And now, through the prayers of Saint Simeon of Verkhoturye, the Lord shows gracious help, consolation, strengthening, admonition, healing of souls and bodies and deliverance from evil and unclean spirits. Through the prayers of the saint, distressed travelers receive deliverance from death.

The days of memory of the righteous Simeon of Verkhoturye are May 25 (May 12, old style), September 25 (September 12, old style) and December 31 (December 18, old style).

Troparion, tone 4

With the same gift given to you, ask Christ God for healing for us who are sick with spiritual passions, and pray to save our souls.

Kontakion, tone 2

You rejected the vanity of the world, and inherited the blessings of eternal life, having loved kindness and purity of soul and body. You have gained what you loved, for the tomb and incorruption of your relics, and especially the grace of miracles, testify to this. Sharpen the goals of all those who flock to you and are unenlightened, blessed Simeon, wonder-working wonder.

Amen.

Martyrs Blessed Princes Boris and Gleb

The holy noble princes-passion-bearers Boris and Gleb (in Holy Baptism - Roman and David) were younger sons Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Vladimir. Born shortly before the Baptism of Rus', the holy brothers were raised in Christian piety. The eldest of the brothers, Boris, received a good education. He loved to read the Holy Scriptures, the works of the Holy Fathers and, especially, the lives of saints. Under the influence of such reading, Saint Boris had an ardent desire to imitate the feat of the saints of God and often prayed that the Lord would honor him with such an honor.

Saint Gleb with early childhood was brought up with his brother and shared his desire to devote his life exclusively to serving God. Both brothers were distinguished by their mercy and kindness of heart, imitating the example of the holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Grand Duke Vladimir, merciful and responsive to the poor, sick and disadvantaged.

Saint Boris, ruling his Rostov principality, showed wisdom and meekness, caring primarily about inculcating the Orthodox faith and establishing a pious way of life among his subjects. The young prince also became famous as a brave and skillful warrior. Shortly before his death Grand Duke Vladimir called Boris to Kyiv and sent him with an army against the Pechenegs. When the death of Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Vladimir followed, his eldest son Svyatopolk, who was in Kyiv at that time, declared himself Grand Duke of Kyiv. Saint Boris was returning from a campaign at that time, having never met the Pechenegs, who were probably frightened of him and fled to the steppe. Upon learning of his father's death, he was very upset. The squad persuaded him to go to Kiev and take the grand-ducal throne, but the holy Prince Boris, not wanting internecine strife, disbanded his army: “I will not raise my hand against my brother, and even against my eldest, whom I should consider as my father!”

However, the insidious and power-hungry Svyatopolk did not believe Boris’s sincerity; In an effort to protect himself from the possible rivalry of his brother, who had the sympathy of the people and troops on his side, he sent assassins to kill him. Saint Boris was informed of such treachery by Svyatopolk, but did not hide and, like the martyrs of the first centuries of Christianity, readily met death. The assassins overtook him while he was praying for Matins on Sunday, July 24, 1015, in his tent on the banks of the Alta River. After the service, they burst into the prince’s tent and pierced him with spears.

After this, Svyatopolk just as treacherously killed the holy Prince Gleb. Having insidiously summoned his brother from his inheritance - Murom, Svyatopolk sent his warriors to meet him in order to kill Saint Gleb on the road. Prince Gleb already knew about the death of his father and the villainous murder of Prince Boris. Deeply grieving, he chose death rather than war with his brother. The meeting of Saint Gleb with the murderers took place at the mouth of the Smyadyn River, not far from Smolensk.

The lives of the holy passion-bearers were sacrificed to the main Christian good deed - love. The holy brothers did something that was still new and incomprehensible to pagan Rus', accustomed to blood feud - they showed that evil cannot be repaid with evil, even under the threat of death.

The Grand Duke of Kiev Yaroslav the Wise took care to find the remains of Saint Gleb, which had been unburied for four years, and buried them in Vyshgorod, in the church in the name of Saint Basil the Great, next to the relics of Saint Prince Boris. After some time, this temple burned down, but the relics remained unharmed, and many miracles were performed from them. One Varangian stood irreverently on the grave of the holy brothers, and a suddenly emanating flame scorched his feet. From the relics of the holy princes, a lame youth, the son of a resident of Vyshgorod, received healing: Saints Boris and Gleb appeared to the youth in a dream and made the sign of a cross on his sore leg. The boy woke up from sleep and stood up completely healthy.

The days of remembrance of the holy noble princes Boris and Gleb are May 15 (May 2, old style), August 6 (July 24, old style) and September 18 (September 5, old style).

Great Martyr Artemy

The Holy Great Martyr Artemy was one of the outstanding military leaders during the reign of Equal-to-the-Apostles Tsar Constantine the Great. Having many awards for excellent service and courage, Artemy was appointed governor of Egypt. In this position, he did a lot to spread and strengthen Christianity in Egypt. Emperor Constantine was replaced on the throne by the apostate emperor Julian, who, wanting to return paganism, waged an irreconcilable struggle against Christianity.

Thus, in Antioch, Julian ordered the torture of two bishops who did not want to renounce the faith of Christ. At this time, Saint Artemy came to the city and publicly denounced the emperor for his wickedness. The enraged Julian subjected the saint to cruel torture, after which he was thrown into prison. While praying to Saint Artemy, Christ Himself appeared surrounded by angels and said: “Take courage, Artemy! I am with you and will deliver you from all the pain that your tormentors inflicted on you, and I am already preparing for you a crown of glory. For just as you confessed Me before men on earth, so I will confess you before My Father in Heaven. So, be courageous and rejoice - you will be with Me in My Kingdom.”

The next day, Julian demanded that the Great Martyr Artemy recognize the pagan gods. However, the saint resolutely refused, and then they began to torture him again, but the saint endured all the torments without a single groan. The saint predicted to Julian that he would soon receive just retribution for the evil he had caused to Christians. The apostate became enraged and resorted to even more severe torture, but they did not break the will of the great martyr, and then Saint Artemy was beheaded.

Troparion, tone 4

Be strengthened by the true faith of Christ, O passion-bearer, you have defeated the tormentor of the wicked king with that idol’s exaltation. Venerable Theodore the Studite, Confessor

Saint Theodore received a broad and varied education. Having studied deeply Holy Scripture, he successfully resisted the iconoclast heretics. In 796, for zeal for the preservation of church rules and denunciation of the lawlessness of Emperor Constantine VI Porphyrogenitus, the monk, after cruel torture, was exiled to prison in the city of Thessaloniki.

During the reign of Empress Irina, the monk was returned from exile, giving him control of the desolate Studii monastery. Soon up to a thousand monks gathered in the monastery.

Under the emperors Nikephoros I (802 - 811) and Leo the Armenian (813 - 820), Saint Theodore suffered a lot for the veneration of icons. He was imprisoned first in Illyria, in the fortress of Metope, and then in Anatolia, in Bonita.

After the death of Leo the Armenian, the Monk Theodore, released from captivity, settled in the city of Chersonese (Bithynia). Despite his serious illness, he celebrated the Divine Liturgy daily and taught the brethren. He died peacefully in Bithynia in 826.

The Monk Theodore, both during his life and after his death, performed many miracles. Those who called on his name were saved from fires, from attacks by wild animals, and received healing of ailments.

The days of memory of the Monk Theodore the Studite, confessor, are February 8 (January 26, old style) and November 24 (November 11, old style).

Pray for us, holy father, for your spiritual children, as if you have boldness towards the Heavenly King; do not keep silent to the Lord for us, and do not despise us, who honor you with faith and love. Remember us unworthy at the Throne of the Almighty, and do not stop praying for us to Christ God: for grace has been given to you to pray for us. We do not imagine that you are dead: even though you passed away from us in body, you remain alive even after death. Do not give up on us in spirit, keeping us from the arrows of the enemy and all the charms of the devil and the snares of the devil, our good shepherd. Even though your relics are always visible before our eyes, your holy soul with the Angelic armies, with the Bodiless faces, with the Heavenly powers, standing at the Almighty Throne, rejoices with dignity. Knowing that you are truly alive even after death, we fall down to you and we pray to you: pray for us to Almighty God, for the benefit of our souls, and ask us time for repentance, so that we may pass from earth to heaven without restraint, from bitter ordeals, demons, air princes and may we be delivered from eternal torment, and may we be heirs of the Heavenly Kingdom with all the righteous who have pleased our God Jesus Christ from time immemorial; To Him belongs all glory, honor and worship, with His Beginningless Father and with His Most Holy and Good and Life-Giving Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Holy Prophet, Forerunner and Baptist of the Lord John

The martyrdom of Saint John the Baptist in the year 32 after the Nativity of Christ is narrated by the evangelists Matthew (Matthew 14:1 - 12) and Mark (Mark 6:14 - 29).

After the Baptism of the Lord, Saint John the Baptist was imprisoned by Herod Antipas. The Prophet of God openly denounced Herod for the fact that, having left his lawful wife, the daughter of the Arabian king Arethas, he unlawfully cohabited with Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip.

On his birthday, Herod gave a feast to the nobles, elders and commanders. Herodias' daughter Salome danced in front of the guests and pleased Herod. In gratitude to the girl, he vowed to give everything she asked, even up to half of his kingdom. The nasty dancer, on the advice of her evil mother Herodias, asked that the head of John the Baptist be served to her immediately on a platter.

Herod ordered the head of Saint John to be cut off and given to Salome. According to legend, the lips of the dead head of the preacher of repentance opened and said: “Herod, you should not have the wife of your brother Philip.”

Days of celebration of the Holy Prophet, Forerunner and Baptist of the Lord John - January 20 (January 7, old style), March 9 (February 24), June 7 (May 25), July 7 (June 24), September 11 (August 29), 6 October (September 23, old style).

Troparion, tone 2

The memory of the righteous is with praise, but the testimony of the Lord, Forerunner, is sufficient for you: for you have shown that you are truly the most honorable of the prophets, as in the streams of baptism you were worthy of the Preached One: having suffered the same for the truth, rejoicing, you preached the gospel to those in hell, God revealed in the flesh, taking away the sin of the world and giving us great mercy.

Kontakion, tone 5

The glorious beheading of the forerunner, a certain Divine sight, and the coming of the Savior was preached to those in hell; Let Herodia weep, having asked for lawless murder: for he did not love the law of God, nor the living age, but a feigned, temporary one.

Prayer

Baptist of Christ, honest Forerunner, extreme prophet, first martyr, mentor of fasters and hermits, teacher of purity and neighbor of Christ! I pray to you, and when you come running, do not reject me from your intercession, do not forsake me, who have fallen through many sins; renew my soul with repentance, like a second baptism; Cleanse me, the sins of the defiled, and compel me to enter into the Kingdom of Heaven, even if nothing bad enters. Amen.

Second prayer

Baptist of Christ, preacher of repentance, do not despise me who repents, but copulating with the heavenly ones, pray to the Lady for me, unworthy, sad, weak and sad, fallen into many troubles, burdened by the stormy thoughts of my mind. Because I am a den of evil deeds, with no end to sinful customs, my mind is nailed down by earthly things. What will I do? We don't know. And to whom shall I resort, that my soul may be saved? Only to you, Saint John, give the same name of grace, for you are before the Lord through the Mother of God greater than all those born, for you have been honored to touch the top of the King Christ, who takes away the sins of the world, the Lamb of God. Pray for my sinful soul, so that from now on, in the first ten hours, I will bear a good burden and accept recompense with the last. To her, the Baptist of Christ, an honest Forerunner, an extreme Prophet, the first martyr in grace, a teacher of fasters and hermits, a teacher of purity and a close friend of Christ! I pray to you, I come running to you: do not reject me from your intercession, but raise me up, cast down by many sins. Renew my soul with repentance, as with the second baptism, since you are the ruler of both: with baptism wash away the original sin, and with repentance cleanse every bad deed. Cleanse me, defiled by sins, and force me to enter, even if nothing bad enters, into the Kingdom of Heaven. Amen.

The Mother of God in front of Her Three-Handed Icon

“Three-Handed” is the icon in front of which Saint John of Damascus prayed. The story with which the appearance of the third hand on the icon is associated took place during the difficult time of iconoclasm, when Emperor Leo the Isaurian sat on the Byzantine throne. John of Damascus, former first minister of the Caliph of Damascus, was slandered by the emperor.

Having forged the handwriting of John of Damascus, Leo presented the caliph with a forged letter in which the first minister of the caliph allegedly persuaded him, the Byzantine emperor, to start a war with the Saracens and capture Damascus. The angry caliph ordered to cut off John of Damascus's right hand. Saint John asked for one thing - to leave him a severed hand, and the caliph heeded the request.

Having retired to his chambers, John of Damascus put his severed hand to the joint and fervently prayed to the Mother of God for healing. He asked the Lady of Heaven to return his hand so that he could do right things with it. Having made the prayer, John of Damascus fell asleep, and when he woke up, he found his hand completely healthy, in its proper place.

The Caliph, having learned about the miraculous healing, realized that he had been deceived by the Byzantine emperor and was in vain angry with his first minister. However, despite the caliph’s requests to return to service, John of Damascus decided to retire from business and accepted monasticism.

The icon, before which Saint John prayed for the healing of his hand, was decorated with the image of a third hand, in memory of the miracle.

Saint John of Damascus retired to the monastic labors of the Monk Sava the Sanctified, bringing with him the image of the Most Pure Virgin “Three-Handed”. Several centuries later, the brethren of the Lavra handed over the “Three-Handed” icon as a blessing to Saint Sava of Serbia, along with the “Mammal” icon bequeathed by Saint Sava the Consecrated to his namesake.

During the Turkish invasion of Serbia, wanting to preserve the icon, Christians entrusted the shrine to the Most Pure Virgin Herself: they placed the icon on a donkey and sent it without a driver to wherever God would lead it. Miraculously, the donkey came to Athos, stopping in front of the Hilendar monastery.

The days of celebration of the icon of the Mother of God “Three-Handed” are July 11 (June 28, old style) and July 25 (July 12, old style).

The Mother of God in front of Her “Kazan” icon

The image of the Kazan Mother of God is perhaps the most revered in Rus'. The Mother of God, through Her icon, miraculously found after a severe fire, illuminated barbaric Kazan with the Light of Truth.

After Mohammedan Kazan was conquered by the Moscow state, the sprouts of Orthodoxy, still very young and tender, began to grow, but they made their way with great difficulty. In 1579, there was a severe fire in Kazan: part of the city and half of the Kazan Kremlin burned out. Christians were blamed for this terrible fire, suspecting them of arson.

After the fire subsided, nine-year-old Matrona, the daughter of a Christian Sagittarius, in whose house this terrible fire began, saw the Most Pure Virgin in a dream. The Mother of God ordered the girl to hand over to the clergy and authorities of Kazan, so that Her icon could be found in the ashes of the Streltsy house. Having woken up, Matrona did not say anything to anyone.

The Mother of God appeared in a dream for the second time, and then the girl told about the vision of her mother, who did not attach any importance to her daughter’s words. Then the All-Sung Lady Theotokos again appeared to Matrona, saying that if this time the girl did not tell the clergy and city authorities about her vision, then her entire family would die, because the city residents considered the fire a manifestation of the wrath of the pagan gods, for which Christians were to blame. Then the mother took Matrona to the governors of Kazan and Archbishop Jeremiah. And again no one believed her story.

After this failure, the girl’s mother herself began to look in the ashes for the icon that the Most Pure One had spoken about. But neither she nor the other townspeople could find the image of the Virgin Mary. Matrona herself found the icon - in the place where the stove was located in the Streltsy house before the fire.

Already on the day of its discovery, the icon of the Mother of God showed the first miracles: along the way of the procession, which carried the Kazan image of the Most Pure One to the Annunciation Cathedral, a blind man, who had not seen anything for three years, was healed. And when the icon was brought into the cathedral, another blind man also received his sight. Having seen the miracles performed, many residents of Kazan believed in God and recognized Christians as innocent of the fire. At the site where the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God was found, the convent of the Mother of God was founded.

Later, during the Polish invasion of Russia, the Kazan miraculous icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary helped the Russian army drive the enemy out of Moscow. The Nizhny Novgorod militia, led by Minin and Pozharsky, approached the capital. But how can we besiege Moscow if we also have to fight off the fresh forces of the Poles arriving at the Russian capital? After three days of fasting and prayer before the copy of the miraculous Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, the militia began an assault on Moscow.

And at this time, in Moscow itself, the Greek Archbishop Arseny was lying sick, who one night had a vision of St. Sergius of Radonezh. “Arseny, our and your prayers have been heard; Through the intercession of the Mother of God, God’s judgment on the Fatherland was transferred to mercy: tomorrow Moscow will be in the hands of the besiegers, and Russia will be saved,” said Saint Reverend Sergius. After the vision disappeared, Arseny recovered and his strength returned. Soon Moscow was liberated from the invaders.

Such a miraculous intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos for Rus' through Her Kazan Icon was not the only one and not the last. It is no coincidence that the Mother of God of Kazan is revered as the patron saint of Russia, and one of the days of Her veneration is a state holiday in our country.

The days of celebration of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God are July 21 (July 8, old style) and November 4 (October 22, old style).

Amen.

Blessed Basil, Holy Fool for Christ's sake, Moscow Wonderworker

Holy Blessed Basil, the Moscow Wonderworker, was born into a poor family and at the age of sixteen he embarked on the thorny path of foolishness. In the scorching heat and bitter cold, he walked naked and barefoot along the streets of Moscow. Soon the residents recognized him as a holy fool, a man of God, an exposer of untruth. U Prechistensky Gate he saw a demon in the form of a beggar and immediately drove him away. Visiting taverns, the blessed one saw grains of goodness in fallen people and reinforced them with affection. Passing by houses where they were madly having fun and drinking, he hugged the corners of their homes with tears. When asked what this meant, he answered: “Sorrowful angels stand at the house and lament over the sins of people, and with tears I begged them to pray to the Lord for the conversion of sinners.”

Saint Basil was not afraid to denounce and powerful of the world this. One day the blessed one reproached Tsar Ivan the Terrible for being preoccupied with thoughts of building a palace on the Sparrow Hills during a service.

Having purified his soul through great deeds and prayers, Blessed Vasily was awarded the gift of foresight. In 1547, he predicted the great fire of Moscow and extinguished the fire in Novgorod with prayer.

After spending 72 years in the feat of foolishness, Blessed Basil died on August 2, 1557 at the age of 88. His body was buried in the chapel of the Trinity Church, which, together with the Cathedral of the Intercession, “which is on the ditch,” became popularly called St. Basil’s Cathedral.

Therefore, pray to Christ God to deliver us from barbaric captivity and internecine warfare and grant us peace and great mercy to our souls.

Kontakion, tone 4

Venerable John of Rila

Venerable John of Rila is an ascetic of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church. Left an orphan early, the boy went to strangers - as a shepherd. One day the owner of the herd beat him because a cow and calf were lost. The boy cried and prayed for a long time, asking God to help him. The cow and calf were found, but before John had time to return them to the herd, the water in the Struma River rose strongly. The young shepherd prayed, placed his outer garment on the water and drew a cross on it. Then he took the calf in his arms and walked with it, as if on dry land, to the other side of the river, where the cow was already located. His offender, seeing the miracle, was horrified and, having generously rewarded the boy, released him from his house.

Where and when the saint took monastic vows remains unknown. Initially, he labored on a high and bare mountain, eating only wild plants. His hut was made of brushwood. A short time later, robbers attacked him at night and, beating him, drove him out of the hut. John found a deep cave and began to live in it.

The monk spent twelve years in a wild cave, after which he went to the Rila desert, where he settled in a hollow tree. He fasted a lot, prayed and cried constantly, eating only grass. People began to bring the sick and those possessed by an unclean spirit to St. John, whom he healed with prayer. Avoiding fame, the ascetic left his beloved hollow and settled on a high and inaccessible rock, where he lived in the open air for the remaining seven years of his life.

Memorial Day of St. John of Rila - August 31 (August 18, old style).

The basis of repentance, the prescription of tenderness, the image of consolation, spiritual fulfillment, your life was like an angel, reverend: in prayers and fastings, and in tears, Father John, pray to Christ God for our souls.

Kontakion, tone 8

Having become jealous of the angelic life, reverend: having left all earthly things, you have flown to Christ and protected by His commandments, you have appeared as a pillar unshakable from enemy attacks. To those we call to you: Rejoice, Father John, bright light.

Prayer

Oh, great and wonderful miracle worker, Reverend John, accept our prayer and do not turn away from us who have come running to your intercession: you never turned away from those who came to you with their sorrows in the days of your earthly life; We know that you showed signs of mercy even after your repose as Orthodox people! Hear us now, overwhelmed by the great sorrows that have come upon us in these evil days, when the devil, through his destructive machinations, strives to trample the Holy Church, and to deprive us of eternal salvation and the blessings of temporal life! Ask us from the Lord Jesus Christ for forgiveness of sins, and especially the sin of disobedience to our Mother Church! Grant us contrition of heart, so that with tenderness we steadily approach the holy Sacrament of Repentance, so that the communion of the Body and Blood of Christ will not lead us to condemnation and destruction, but to health and salvation. Drive away from us the spirit of brotherly hatred, give us the spirit of love and peace for the fraternal unity of all your people! Unite us all with love for Christ and His Orthodox Church, so that by observing His saving will, we will be true children of God! Be a guide to us all our days, so that we may always, in the grace of the Holy Spirit, keep our faith in purity and do the will of the Lord until death! At the hour of our death, we appear to present our souls to the throne of the Divine Judge and say to Him: “Behold, I and my children,” for having been delivered from eternal torment by your intercession, we will inherit the ineffable bliss of the Heavenly Kingdom of Christ together with you and all the saints forever and ever. Amen.

Saint Jonah, Metropolitan of Moscow, Wonderworker of All Russia

Saint Jonah strove for monasticism from an early age; He became a monk at the age of twelve. In 1431, for his virtuous life and firm knowledge of the teachings of the Church, Saint Jonah was made Bishop of Ryazan and Murom. And already in 1432 he was elected metropolitan of all Rus'.

During the siege of Moscow by the Nogai Tatars in 1451, Saint Jonah made a religious procession along the walls of the Kremlin, praying Holy Mother of God about saving the city. And his prayer was heard.

During his holy life, he received from God the gift of clairvoyance and miracles. Having received notification of his death through a vision, he died peacefully on March 31, 1461. At the tomb of the saint, numerous healings began to take place.

Troparion, tone 4

From your youth, having dedicated everything to yourself to the Lord, in prayers, and in labor, and in fasting, having become an image of virtue, from there God saw your good will, and established you as a bishop and shepherd of His Church. Likewise, after your repose, your honorable body is intact and incorruptible, Saint Jonah, pray to Christ God to save our souls.

Kontakion, tone 8

As from the infancy of the Lord you have enslaved yourself, wisely, with fasting and vigil, you have oppressed your body, and therefore you have become a pure vessel and a house for the Holy Spirit; for this reason, for the sake of His Church, you are arranging for a bishop and a shepherd, since you have foreseen good things, you have gone to the Lord, Whom you loved. Thus we pray to you: remember us, who honor your holy memory with faith, and we all call you: Rejoice, Father Jono, all-honorable saint.

Prayer

O most honorable and sacred head and filled with the grace of the Holy Spirit, the abode of the Savior with the Father, the great bishop, our warm intercessor, Saint Jonah, standing at the Throne of all the King and enjoying the light of the consubstantial Trinity and cherubically with the angels proclaiming the trisagion hymn, having great and unexplored boldness To the all-merciful Master, pray for the salvation of Christ's flock of people, establish the well-being of the holy churches: decorate the bishops with the splendor of holiness, strengthen the monastics with the feat of the good trend, preserve the reigning city and all cities and countries well, and keep the holy immaculate faith, pray for the whole world through your intercession, deliver us from famine and destruction, and save us from the attacks of foreigners, console the old, guide the young, make the foolish wise, have mercy on widows, protect the orphans, grow up the babies, return the captives, free the weak and those who pray to you from all misfortunes and troubles through your intercession: pray for us The All-generous and Humane-loving Christ our God, and on the day of His Terrible Coming He will deliver us from this standing state, and He will create the joys of the saints as partakers with all the saints forever and ever. Amen.

When children get sick

For what, Lord?

Health is a gift of God, but this gift is not always useful: like any suffering, illness has the power to cleanse us from spiritual filth, atone for sins, humble and soften our soul, make us come to our senses, realize our weakness and remember God. Therefore, both we and our children need diseases.

Venerable Seraphim of Sarov.

Probably each of us has ever wondered: why do our children suffer? Okay, we adults are sick, but we are sinners, everything is clear with us... But why does the Lord allow children to suffer? Can this issue be resolved from the point of view of human justice?

Family is single organism, all parts of which are connected by spiritual ties. We are connected with our children by an invisible thread; they contain our blood, a piece of our soul. And our sins can fall on the fragile soul and body with a heavy, unbearable burden. Even the sins of more distant ancestors can result in physical illnesses for our children. Thus, children pay with their health for the mistakes of their parents. But why should they suffer for our sins, since they are not to blame for them?

Sick children take on the feat of martyrdom so that we, adults, have the opportunity to improve. But out of our stupidity, out of our habit of not thinking about our sins, we blame someone else for the illnesses of our children, but not ourselves.

If a child is sick, there is no point in asking the empty question “For what?”, it is better to ask your conscience: “For what?” After all, this disease is sent not only to the child, but also to us. Any illness is, first of all, an admonition, a reminder that, in addition to this visible reality, there is another - more important one. Even in the most terrible illness, one must realize that God is love. The Lord leads each of us in his own way, offering a “cure” in accordance with the “diagnosis”. God is not a cruel judge, but a Father who loves us. You should never despair. Our lives are in the hands of the Almighty, and everything that is sent from Him is a necessary lesson.

Every patient, regardless of age, needs medical help, but in any case, the source of healing is God. Turn to Him with a sincere and fervent prayer for help. You can ask in your own words or use well-known prayers. The main thing is not words, but a genuine meeting with the Lord, communication with Him.

The Sacrament of Communion and Blessing of Unction (Unction), as well as the use of holy water and consecrated oil, provide great help to the soul and body. Everything is in the hands of God, and in our skeptical times, miracles of healing even hopeless patients occur. But a miracle always happens only when they believe in it and ask for it.

Our task is not only to ensure children’s existence in this world, but, above all, to educate them spiritually, to open the way to God for them. If we do not bring a child to church, if we do not teach him to live piously, then we are preventing his coming to Christ. And this is our most important sin, which also falls on our children. Let us try to save ourselves by repentance, and through this we will help our children.

Mother's Prayer

Holy Father, Eternal God! I pray to you for my child ( Name), whose goodness is also given to me. You gave him existence, revived him with an immortal soul, protected him with holy baptism, so that he could live in accordance with Your will and inherit the Kingdom of Heaven.

Keep him in Thy grace until the end of his life. Help me with Your grace, so that I can raise him for the glory of Your name and for the benefit of my neighbors, give me the necessary means, patience and strength for this.

Lord, enlighten him with the light of Your wisdom, so that he may love You with all his soul and with all his thoughts. Plant in his heart fear and disgust from all lawlessness, so that he will be blameless in his ways. Lord, adorn his soul with chastity, long-suffering and all honesty, so that all slander, lies and flattery will be disgusting to him. Sprinkle him with the dew of Thy grace, that he may prosper in virtue and holiness, and may he grow in Thy love and the love of pious people. May the Guardian Angel always be with him and protect his youth from vain thoughts, from the charms and temptations of this world and from all evil slander. If he sins before You, do not turn Your face away from him, but be merciful to him, arouse contrition in his heart and, according to the multitude of Your generosity, cleanse his sins. Do not deprive him of Your earthly blessings, but send him everything he needs in time for the acquisition of a blessed eternity. Save him from every misfortune, misfortune and illness and preserve him all the days of his life. Yes, together with him glorifying Your ineffable mercy, I extol Your most holy name, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

The Mother of God in front of Her “Tikhvin” icon

The Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God, according to legend, was painted by the Apostle Evangelist Luke. Until the 14th century, this icon remained in Constantinople, but suddenly in 1383 the image of the Most Pure Virgin disappeared, appearing in Rus', on Lake Ladoga. The newfound icon could not stay in one place for a long time. The people built chapels for the icon and laid out wooden churches, but the Most Pure Virgin did not deign to remain there. Finally, the icon of the Mother of God stopped behind the Tikhvinka River, where first a wooden and then a stone church was built. Under Tsar Ivan the Terrible, a monastery was established in these places.

In 1613–1614, Swedish troops, having captured Veliky Novgorod, tried to conquer the Tikhvin Monastery. Although the monastery was fortified with stone walls, the monks did not hope to withstand the onslaught of the enemy. Deciding to flee from the monastery, the brethren went to the temple for the miraculous image of the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God, but they could not move the icon, no matter how hard they tried. Then cowardice left the monks: placing all their hope in the Most Pure Virgin, they remained in the monastery.

And a miracle happened: the well-trained Swedish army was unable to take the besieged monastery, which was defended by a few monks and laymen. In the end, the Swedes began to see either huge Russian troops approaching the monastery from Moscow, or the heavenly army. Fear seized the besiegers, and, abandoning everything, they fled.

After the establishment of the Soviet regime, in the 20s, the Tikhvin Monastery was closed, and the miraculous icon became an exhibit of the local history museum. During the Great Patriotic War fascist troops, having occupied Tikhvin, retreating, took with them the miraculous icon. Time passed, and the miraculous image moved further and further away from Russia, eventually ending up in Chicago, America. And only in 2004 the miraculous Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God returned to the monastery on the Tikhvinka River.

The day of celebration of the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God is July 9 (June 26, old style).

For this reason, we resort to You, as to our undoubted and immediate Intercessor; Hear us praying to You, cover us with Your all-powerful protection and ask God Your Son to be our shepherd, zeal and vigil for souls, a city ruler for wisdom and strength, judges for truth and impartiality, a mentor for reason and humility, love and harmony for spouses, obedience for children, patience for the offended, to those who offend the fear of God, to those who grieve complacency, to those who rejoice at self-control: to all of us is the spirit of reason and piety, the spirit of mercy and meekness, the spirit of purity and truth. To her, Most Holy Lady, have mercy on Your weak people: gather the scattered, guide those who have gone astray to the right path, support old age, educate young people with chastity, raise infants, and look upon us all with the gaze of Your merciful intercession, raise us up from the depths of sin and enlighten our heartfelt eyes to in the sight of salvation, be merciful to us here and there, in the land of earthly arrival and at the terrible judgment of Your Son: having ceased in faith and repentance from this life, make our fathers and brothers live in eternal life with the Angels and with all the saints. Amen.

Prayer to the holy righteous Simeon the God-Receiver

The Gospel tradition says that Elder Simeon was a righteous and pious man. The Holy Spirit rested on Simeon, and it was revealed to him that the Savior would soon come to the world.

By order of the Egyptian king Ptolemy for the translation of books Holy Scripture Seventy learned men were elected from Hebrew to Greek, including Simeon. Translating the book of the prophet Isaiah, he came to the words: “Behold, the Virgin will be with child and give birth to a Son,” and he doubted. He was about to insert the word “wife” instead of “Virgin,” when suddenly an angel appeared to him and, holding his hand, said: “Have faith in what is written, and you yourself will see its fulfillment, for you will not die until you see one born of a pure Virgin - Christ the Lord."

When the Lord Jesus Christ was brought to the temple by the Most Pure Mother of God on the fortieth day after His Nativity, righteous Simeon, led by the Holy Spirit, also came there. The elder recognized the long-awaited Messiah in the Baby and, taking him in his arms, said: “Now, O Master, dost let Thy servant go in peace, according to Thy word: for mine eyes have seen Thy salvation, which Thou hast prepared before the face of all people: a light to be revealed by the tongue, and the glory of Thy people Israel.”.

After this, Simeon the God-Receiver prophesied about the suffering of Christ and His crucifixion. According to legend, Simeon the God-Receiver reached a ripe old age, living to be 360 years old: God was pleased to prolong the life of the holy elder so that he could live until that wondrous hour when our Savior was born of the Virgin.

Simeon the God-Receiver is considered the patron saint of infants; people pray to him to preserve their health.

The day of remembrance of the holy righteous Simeon the God-Receiver is February 16 (February 3, old style).

Prayer to the Holy Great Martyr Paraskeva Pyatnitsa

Saint Paraskeva Friday has always enjoyed special love among the Orthodox people. In Rus', she was revered as an assistant in women's cares, the patroness of the household and agricultural work.

The Holy Martyr Paraskeva lived in the 3rd century in Iconium in a rich and pious family. The saint's parents especially revered the day of the Lord's suffering - Friday, and therefore named their daughter, born on this day, Paraskeva, which translated from Greek means Friday. With all her heart, young Paraskeva loved the purity and high morality of virgin life and took a vow of celibacy. She wanted to devote her life to God and the enlightenment of the pagans with the light of the faith of Christ. After the death of her parents, Saint Paraskeva distributed all her property to the poor, accepted monasticism and began preaching the Gospel to the pagans. Tradition tells of the severe torments of the cross that befell this saint.

The activities of Paraskeva were reported to Emperor Antoninus Pius, and he ordered her to be subjected to brutal torture. A red-hot helmet was put on Paraskeva's head and thrown into a cauldron of boiling tar. However, the martyr remained unharmed. When the emperor looked into the cauldron, the saint threw a few drops of hot resin into his face, and he went blind. The emperor began to ask Paraskeva for healing, and she healed him. After this, Antonin released Saint Paraskeva.

One day Paraskeva came to the city where Asclepius was the ruler. Here she was again sentenced to death: they took her to a cave where a huge snake lived so that it would devour the martyr. But Paraskeva made the sign of the cross over the snake, and he immediately died. The ruler and townspeople, seeing such a miracle, believed in Christ and released Paraskeva.

Arriving in a city where a certain Tarasius was the ruler, Saint Paraskeva was again captured by the pagans. She was asked to make a sacrifice to the idol. With a strong heart, trusting in God, the saint refused this, for which she endured great torment. The martyr was tied to a tree, her body was tormented with iron nails, and then thrown into prison. But God did not abandon the holy sufferer and miraculously healed her. But in the morning the executioners resumed the torture and finally cut off her head.

Icons of the holy martyr protect family well-being and happiness. They pray to Saint Paraskeva Friday for worthy grooms, infertility, for the health of babies, in serious illnesses.

Sayings of the Holy Fathers on illnesses

Patience means to endure whatever happens generously: not to despair in illness, not to be unduly despondent in misfortunes, not to be sad in poverty and not to grumble about insults.

Anyone who sins and is not punished here is the same unfortunate person.

Saint John Chrysostom

A certain elder was often exposed to illness. It happened that he did not get sick for one year; The elder was very sad about this and cried, saying: “My Lord has forsaken me and did not visit me.”

Ancient patericon

The more we suffer in this life from illness, from persecution, from the power of enemies or from poverty, the more we will inherit rewards in the next life.

Blessed Jerome

The All-Good Lord allows a person in this life various insults and embarrassments, illnesses, and so on, all this in order to cleanse the soul of sins and instill in eternal life.

When illness weighs us down, we do not need to grieve that due to pain and sores we cannot sing psalms with our lips. For illnesses and wounds serve to destroy lusts, and both fasting and prostrations are prescribed for us to conquer passions. If illness also expels these passions, then there is nothing to worry about.

Truly, through bodily illnesses the soul approaches God.

Saint Gregory the Theologian

In illness, before doing anything else, one must hasten to be cleansed of sins in the Sacrament of Repentance and to be reconciled with God in one’s conscience.

It happens that God shields others with illness from a misfortune that would not have escaped them if they had been healthy.

The Lord heals many diseases through doctors and other means. But there are diseases, the cure of which is prohibited by the Lord, when he sees that illness is more necessary for salvation than health.

Illness for a person is the mercy of God. And if a Christian accepts what is sent by God for the benefit of his soul and complacently endures his painful condition, then he goes on the direct path to Paradise. At the sickbed there is threshing: the more blows, the more grains will be knocked out and the richer the grind. Then you need grain for the millstones, then flour for mixing the dough and leavening it, then in the form of bread for the oven, and finally for God’s table.

During illness, everyone should think and say: “Who knows? Maybe in my illness the gates to eternity are opening for me?

In illnesses, before doctors and medicines, use prayer and the Sacraments: Confession, Communion and Unction.

If you are sick, then invite an experienced doctor and use the remedies prescribed by him. For this purpose, so many beneficial plants arise from the earth. If you reject them out of pride, you will hasten your death and become a suicide.

Spiritual wealth lies in patience.

In illness, learn: humility, patience, complacency and gratitude to God.

If you have to indulge yourself due to illness, then that’s okay. And if under the pretext of illness, then it’s bad.

Saint Theophan the Recluse

Most of our illnesses come from sins, which is why the best way to prevent and heal from them is to not sin.

It is a great feat to patiently endure illnesses and, in the midst of them, sing songs of gratitude to God.

We are brought closer to God by sorrow, cramped conditions, illness, and labor. Do not grumble against them and do not be afraid of them. Although illness torments your flesh, it saves your spirit.

Saint Tikhon of Zadonsk

The Lord makes up for the lack of our good deeds either with illnesses or sorrows.

Although it is a good deed to take care of the sick and visit them, one must have reason; Where your spiritual structure is damaged, things will get by without you.

Try to console the sick person not so much with services as with a cheerful face.

Saint Demetrius of Rostov

We have illnesses from sin, they weaken passions, and a person comes to his senses. He who endures illnesses with patience and gratitude is credited with them instead of feats and even more... At the same time, one must believe and hope that if the Lord God wills a person to experience illnesses, He will give him the strength of patience.

Venerable Seraphim of Sarov

The Lord sent you illness not in vain and not so much as a punishment for previous sins, but out of love for you, in order to tear you away from a sinful life and put you on the path of salvation. Thank God for this, who takes care of you.

Hegumen Nikon

The devil attacks those who are dangerously ill more strongly, knowing that he has little time.

In dangerous illnesses, take care first of clearing your conscience and the peace of your soul.

Thank God that you are on a good path: your illness is a great gift from God; Praise and give thanks for this and for everything day and night - and your soul will be saved.

Elder Arseny of Athos

Sick and poor, do not complain or grumble about your fate, about God and people, do not envy someone else’s happiness, beware of despondency and, especially, despair, submit completely to God’s Providence.

Illnesses reconcile us with God and bring us back into His love.

Holy Righteous John of Kronstadt

Reflect on the fact that everything here is fleeting, but the future is eternal.

The patient must console himself by reading Divine Scripture about the suffering of the Savior.

The Lord accepts patience with illness instead of fasting and prayer.

When you are sick, do not force yourself to go to church, but lie under the covers and say the Jesus Prayer.

Venerable Anatoly of Optina

The enemy tempted the ancient Christians with torment, and the modern Christians with illnesses and thoughts.

All the most severe sorrows and misfortunes are endured by people more easily than serious bodily illnesses. The undoubted expert in the matter of tormenting and tormenting people - Satan - testified in the face of God Himself that bodily illnesses more unbearable than all other misfortunes and that a person who bravely and resignedly endures other misfortunes can weaken in his patience and waver in his devotion to God, subjected to a serious illness.

If you have endured it here, you will not endure eternal torment in the next world, but, on the contrary, you will enjoy such bliss, before which present happiness is nothing.

Whoever has no consolation here and endures it patiently can well hope that there, in future life, will receive great and unspeakable joy.

Venerable Ambrose of Optina

Saint Agapit of Pechersk: life and prayers

The monk made a prayer for him, gave him medicinal herbs, which he himself used, and a miracle happened, the prince was healed.

About healing from serious incurable diseases. Such, for example, as onco.
Healing from cholelithiasis.
About healing the blind,
Healing liver diseases and much more.

Amen.
The Lord is always with you!

Memory: June 1 / June 14, September 28 / October 11 (Cathedral of the Reverend Fathers of the Kiev Pechersk, resting in the Near Caves)

Agapit of Pechersk is a humble ascetic and a skilled herbalist.

The monk made a prayer for him, gave him medicinal herbs, which he himself used, and a miracle happened, the prince was healed.

SOUL-SAVING PRAYER

My True Father,

A soul-saving prayer was given to Antipius (who, after being tonsured as a monk, received the name Anthony), abbot, and later simply a monk of the Kiev Pechersk Monastery, who lived in the 11th century.

“. Antipy's youth was “cheerful.” What was happening around him greatly contributed to the fact that he began to make attempts to understand not only the external, but also, first of all, himself. And not just to figure it out, but to figure it out thoughtfully. Many people at that time believed in God. And he felt that God existed. But why was there such turmoil around? Why did God allow such evil? There was some kind of confrontation, unnecessary bloodshed. People suffered, their children suffered, disease, poverty, and death raged. Antipius had the opportunity to hear preachers of different religions. And they all taught faith in their God, His worship and prayers. But the paradox was that they themselves did not have that pure faith that they spoke about, and they themselves did not fulfill what they demanded of others. Antipius also had no trust in those who came with a sword, speaking for God. On the other hand, he was tormented by the thoughts of why, if there is a loving God, then there is so much grief around, a lot of blood is senselessly shed? Why does God allow such severe suffering?

There were a lot of questions, but as always, in such a swarm of thoughts there was not a single sensible answer. But one day, from a wanderer who stopped at their place for the night, he heard a story that interested him very much. That wanderer spoke about the life of Jesus Christ. Antipius was amazed. After all, it turns out that people even killed the Son of God himself. Why then did Almighty God not stop these people? Why didn’t he intervene when his own Son suffered from the wicked and His body died on the cross? But when Antipius realized that the essence lies in human choice, the choice of each person before the face of the Lord, he realized that the reason for the chaos happening around was not in God, but in the people themselves, including him.

Agapit and Antony closed their eyes. While Agapit silently whispered a prayer with his lips, Anthony, with a blissful smile on his lips, took his last breath. And his soul, accompanied by the Holy Spirit, went to heaven. For at that moment the Archangel Gabriel himself prayed for him.”

An excerpt from Anastasia Novykh’s book “Sensei-II. Primordial Shambhala” .e

Soul-saving prayer (Prayer of Agapit of Pechersk)

“It is no good to worry the Lord about anything other than the salvation of your soul. Don’t ask for your body, don’t ask for your health, don’t worry about your belly - all this is empty decay, insatiable in desires. For there is no petition more worthy than the petition for the salvation of one’s soul.”

Saint Agapit of Pechersk, free physician. His miraculous relics still rest in the Near Caves of the Kiev Pechersk Lavra. Saint Agapit of Pechersk, being a monk, laid the foundation for medical practice at the Pechersk Monastery; he is revered as the first Doctor of Kievan Rus. However, his treatment was not limited to getting rid of ailments from human bodies. Many people received from him (both during his life and after his death) unique, invisible to the eye of a mere mortal, healing help and support in their lives. Interesting information about Agapit of Pechersk, about his life and activities, is described in the second volume of the book “Sensei”, as well as in the book “AllatRa”.

“...Agapit, in addition to his other merits, was also a good doctor. His cordial, caring attitude towards the sick gave rise to unprecedented fame and respect for him among the people, far beyond the borders of Kyiv, although Agapit himself almost never left the territory of the monastery. He became one of the most famous doctors of the 11th century. People called him “Healer from God.” He cured such serious illnesses that no one from the then famous doctors would take on them. Take this historical one, for example. known fact, when Agapit healed the Chernigov prince Vladimir Vsevolodovich Monomakh, who was near death. A doctor nicknamed the Armenian, considered the best aesculapian at that time noble people, could do nothing to help the prince. And it was enough for Agapit to convey with the prince’s messenger a “miraculous potion” prepared with prayer in order to put Vladimir Monomakh on his feet in a matter of days. Later, the prince came to the Pechersky Monastery to thank Agapit, and brought with him many expensive gifts and gold. But Agapit rejected all this both from the prince himself and from the boyar, whom he later sent on his own behalf. For Agapit treated both ordinary people and nobles with equal zeal, free of charge, for which they called him Agapit the Free Doctor. Naturally, this caused ordinary human envy, bordering on anger, among doctors like Armenian. But if we take the Armenian himself, then, ultimately, he realized who Agapit really was. And it was thanks to this that the Armenian subsequently became a monk in the Pechersk Monastery...

Agapit taught the monks the true service of God. He said that “gold” and “monk” are incompatible things. A person cannot serve two masters: either he serves God or earthly wealth, that is, the devil. There is no third. The monk, for all his deeds, truly expects reward only from God in the next world, and not here from people. Gold is rubbish for the soul and a temptation for thoughts. This is the defilement that many crave, but which in fact is a ghostly deception. The true value for a monk is in sincere prayer for his soul. It is not about the satiety of your belly and the health of your body that you need to worry about. Because no matter how much you eat, sooner or later you will still get hungry. And no matter what your health is, sooner or later your flesh will still die. The soul is eternal. And only she is worthy of true care. As Agapit said, a monk prays out of his heart’s desire for all people, but the whole point of monasticism is to serve God and beg Him for salvation for your soul.”

“Agapit founded a spiritual monastery, where throughout its entire existence no one has ever counted how many people were healed of fatal diseases, and, thank God, they still continue to be healed. But this is not the point. The main thing is that many acquired spiritual health there, which is much more important than physical health. By and large, thanks to Agapit, his relics, in which the healing power Holy Spirit, the Kiev-Pechersk Monastery has become famous for centuries.

...Even take today. Many people from different countries of the world, belonging to various religions, and even those who consider themselves an “atheist,” when visiting the Pechersk caves, where the relics of saints lie, linger most of all near the relics of Agapit. And why? Because a person intuitively feels real Holiness, because you cannot deceive the soul. But if people knew that they have the opportunity not only to ask for the healing of their bodies, but also, what is much more important, to ask for the salvation of their souls, especially during the days of the presence of the Holy Spirit in the relics of Agapit, which every year begin on the twenty-fifth of February and last a whole a week, it would be incomparably more beneficial for their souls. For in those days there is no more holy place on Earth where any person, regardless of his religion, can be so close to his petition before the hearing of the Lord. And every person has such a chance, which he can take advantage of for seven days a year. After all, next year may not come for him. For short are human days at the crossroads of time. For their deeds are sorrowful before the face of the Lord. Every human moment is in the balance. And there is no more important concern for souls than the thirst to find salvation. The key to the Gate is not in external faith, but in internal faith. Only a blind man, blinded by dust, will not see it.

A person can only give God his faith and sincere prayer. He cannot give anything more to God. For everything that surrounds man is the creation of God. And it is inappropriate to give the Owner his own property as a gift. After all, God needs nothing from a person except Love and Faith! What can a small child give to his Parent to please His heart? Only your Love and Respect...

While you are alive, man, you have a chance to pray for eternity in God's love for your soul. And while you have this CHANCE, go to Agapit on Holy Week and pray before the Holy Spirit only for your soul. For your body is perishable, it is dust. And all earthly worries are empty. But remember, man, what you promise before God in your petition - fulfill it! For He, like any parent, does not tolerate lies, forgives, but then does not trust.”

Even the portrait of Agapit of Pechersk is unusual.

His eyes are alive and seem to look into your soul. The most interesting thing is that many people see different expressions in their eyes - for some it seems that he is smiling (most often at children), for others he sees a serious gaze, for others he frowns. It’s as if you are looking into the eyes of your Conscience and cannot look away.

Soul-saving prayer:

My True Father,
I trust in You alone,
And I pray to You, Lord,
Only about saving your soul,
Thy Holy will be done.

Amen.

After the release of Anastasia Novykh’s book with a portrait on back side There are already several dozen rather mysterious cases of help that came through this portrait.

Here are some reviews from readers of the newspaper “Panteleimon the Healer,” which at one time published excerpts from books and forums based on books by Anastasia Novykh

– “One of the employees was so enamored with the portrait of the Saint that even before the book was published, she printed it out on a color printer, placing it in a frame at home, and subsequently noted that she Small child stopped crying over trifles, became more smiling and calm. “

“I recently printed color photo“Agapit” and hung it above his desk. When my little niece came to see me, she immediately drew her attention to the photo, looked a little and said: “Uncle, look, grandpa is laughing at me,” and I immediately noticed how very happy she was. So, it’s not for nothing that they say that children are closer to God...

“Here is another mysterious case that can only be called a miracle - “I really love Anastasia Novykh’s books. They support me in difficult times. So I bought it and read it with pleasure. new book. And again I made a lot of important notes in it. The image of Agapit of Pechersk on the cover simply captivated me. I placed the book in a prominent place at home so that I could constantly see this good-natured, warm look of the Saint. But after a while something completely unexpected happened. That day I was going to spend the evening in a cafe with my “old” friends. They came to pick me up as usual. I started getting ready. And when I accidentally looked at Agapit, I saw that his gaze was somehow stern, not the same as always. My soul felt somehow unpleasant. And when, having gotten dressed, I was already heading to the door, suddenly this book fell from the shelf in front of me, as if blocking the way. To be honest, I’m not superstitious, but at that moment I was gripped by mystical fear. Agapit's face was still stern. I put the book on the shelf, thought about it and decided to stay home, citing being unwell. I tried to persuade my friends to stay, but they flatly refused. When they left, for the first time in my life I began to pray for them as best I could, in my own words, so that nothing would happen to them. And later I found out that that evening they were in a terrible accident. It's a miracle that none of them were hurt! Of course, all this can be called an accident. But personally, I began to take such things more seriously. If you analyze the entire chain, starting from when this book came to me...”

“I tried to make a printout back in the summer. But to my surprise, these color photocopies did not stay with me for long; I had to either “give them as souvenirs” to good patients who showed interest in this portrait, or friends “confiscated” them for their home. So it was not possible to draw objective conclusions. But I can say that while the photocopy was standing in the office, the “bad” people did not stay there longer than three or four minutes (apparently they could not stand the “gaze of Agapit”). At least two people, clearly negative natures who did not know each other, showed the same behavior: within the first two minutes of the visit they began to show unusual fussiness, and each of them found their own reason to urgently leave the office "

“I showed the painting “Agapit” to my grandmother when she was visiting us. She really liked it. He says Agapit’s eyes are very kind, PRAYED!!!”

“Obviously, it all depends internal state person. As they say, the one who is with God in his soul, the Saint smiles at him, and his eyes are a clear help and support. And for those who have an internal conflict or a clear preponderance of the negative, their eyes are like a reproach to their conscience.”

“Agapit Pechersky printed the picture and placed it in the office. The printer is black and white. About a week later, the employee asked to remove the painting to another place because she did not like Agapit’s look. In a joking tone, he said that the look of the saint awakens in her a feeling of guilt for her sins... A controversy broke out in the office on the topic of the church, sin, etc. The picture was moved to another place. Periodically I look at her and say a prayer. The eyes are really alive... Today this employee said that she had a dream in which she looked at a picture and realized that Agapit’s eyes were kind and wise, it’s just that the shadow that was drawn under Agapit’s eyes and enhanced by a black and white printer prevented her from seeing content (I paid attention first to the form). In the dream, the shadow was removed from the picture and she understood everything!!!”

Soul-saving prayer from the book “Birds and Stone” by Anastasia Novykh

My True Father,
I trust in You alone,

We are my strength on this path,
For life without You is an empty moment.
And only in serving You is Eternal life.

“Despite the fact that there were no more people, Sensei was in no hurry to go home, as if he was waiting for someone. About fifteen minutes later, leisurely footsteps were actually heard in the corridor. Someone knocked politely. Door opened. Two elderly nuns entered, holding the arms of an unusual-looking old man. He looked about ninety years old. A bit dry. Very tall, about ninety meters. Correct Slavic facial features. His beard and slightly curly long hair were white as snow. He was dressed in a warm, somewhat antique-cut cassock. On her feet are rural quilted burkas. The old man’s legs were clearly painful, since every movement was given to him with great difficulty. Despite such outward darkness, his eyes radiated life-giving kindness and inner strength.

“Peace to you, peace to this house,” said the elder, crossing himself and bowing.
The nuns did the same. The guys sitting on the benches were even taken aback by such wonderful, long-forgotten words and the unusual appearance of an elderly man.
“Hello,” was all they could say, nodding their heads in confusion.
At this time Sensei appeared from his reception room.
“Peace to your soul, Anthony,” he said in an unusually changed sonorous voice, filled with some kind of pacifying good power.

When Sensei entered, the nuns bowed their heads and began to vigorously cross themselves. And the old man, his face beaming, tried to fall at his feet. There was such a spiritual impulse in his eyes that it seemed as if there were absolutely no physical obstacles in front of him. Sensei lightly picked him up, saying:
“It’s not right for you, Anthony, to bow before this body.”
- I bow not before the body, but before the Holy Spirit.
- Your whole life, Anthony, is in the love of God and that is true admiration.
Sensei, gently supporting the old man by the arm, led him to the reception room. The nuns humbly sat down on an empty bench, never ceasing to cross themselves and quietly whisper prayers. The guys, naturally, were a little shocked by this sight. But not for long. Something unusual was always happening near Sensei. A minute later they were already carried away by talking about their daily needs. Max sat closest to the reception area, so he could see and hear what was happening there.

The elder, entering the reception room, crossed himself again when he saw the icon of the Savior. Sensei sat Anthony on a chair, and he sat down on the edge of the trestle bed.
- Thank you Lord for allowing me to meet with You again. The soul rejoices and trembles with grace, being near You.
The old man brushed away a tear that had rolled.
- Anthony, was there even one day in your life when I wasn’t next to you?
- You speak the truth. But still... the gaze of the eyes caresses the soul with Your light, like the clear sun in a clear sky.
- Oh, Anthony... The hour is not far off when you will be caressed under this sun forever.
- This is great joy. A true gain for the soul... But still the pain for those who remain does not leave me. After all, a terrible time awaits them. How can we alleviate their plight?
- My light, Anthony... Your love and care for those present in this moment makes me happy. But is it worth tormenting the soul for those who listened, but did not hear, acted in the flesh without feelings, and therefore were not imbued with the soul?
- But not everyone is lost. There are also those who are lost. And there is no one to look for them among the slums of unbelief.
“I know what you came to ask me for, Anthony.” Your secret thoughts are known to me. Although there are few left like you, the flint pillars on which Orthodoxy, which I love, rests, which are capable of striking the spark of God, a hand does not rise to prolong your torment.
- Yes, my body is weak, but my spirit is steadfast and powerful... I can still lead even one, even by the hand, to the light of God.
Good laughter was heard. - Oh, I know you, Anthony! Let me lead you by the hand, so you will drive all your flock into the gardens of paradise.
- Have mercy on me, my Most Pure Light! It was given to me to see all the torments of hell that the lost children will endure. And they, these children, like small kittens, are blind from birth. They don't see where they are going.
- They don’t see. But the Word was given to them. And they heard, but they didn’t believe. But you need to believe God. It is said: “Watch!” So watch out! It is said “acquire love,” which means acquire it.
- All this is true... But their deafness is due to lack of understanding. They are seduced by visions of mirages of the hellish desert. After all, they do not know that this is a ghostly deception that leads to the destruction of the soul.
“It’s not that they don’t know, my light Anthony, but they don’t want to admit it.” Their thoughts are only about idle things, the essence of which is dust. What to do? If a gardener does not fight worms, then he will not be able to obtain worthy fruit...
- It’s all this worldly vanity that doesn’t give them peace.
- Vanity? Vanity, Anthony, is not hidden in the world. It is not the external that torments them, but the internal that torments them. This is why I came into this body, in order to live a human life and see with my own eyes whether anything hinders a person on the path to the Lord. Yes, nothing interferes! Only sheer laziness and thirst for the temptations of decay.
- Yes, the children are still weak in spirit. They don't see more for little. Forgive me for my words, but why don’t You reveal Your True face to the lost flock? People will find their former faith, leading to the salvation of their souls. After all, these are different times.

Eh, Anthony, my righteous light... My Spirit is here not for preaching, but for Reproof, for the balance given by God has been disrupted. If I reveal my True face, for many it will be like death. For the souls of sinners cannot stand the clear light, just as darkness cannot stand the bright sun. Only the righteous, with pure souls and thoughts, can see it... People do not need broadcasts about salvation, but actions. Today there will be no one to justify ignorance, saying, “Lord, I searched and did not find it.” The lights of truth are burning all over the Earth. Whoever wants it will find it.
- And that’s true. It’s a pity, time is running out, and people don’t have enough faith. But still the soul cares for them, and asks sinners for them. After all, many lack even a little to gain confidence in their steps on the path to the Gates of the Lord. Help them with the power of Your holiness...
- How can you refuse your request, filled with great suffering for the salvation of human souls... Be it your way... For your merits and for those who pray like you, I will give for the lost flock a soul-saving prayer of light, filled with the power of God. But remember, this prayer is like the Finger of the Lord. Those who knew her, but backed down, for those she will be like a stone around the neck of a drowned man. For their retreat will be like fighting against God. And those who will fulfill it in righteous works, with a clear conscience, will find forgiveness during this lifetime. The words of this prayer are: “My True Father! I trust in You alone. And I pray to You, Lord, only for the salvation of my soul. Thy holy will be done..." Rating of 5 voters: 3

Amen.

Prayer to Agapit of Pechersk for the healing of the sick

Free doctor

On June 14, the Orthodox Church honors the memory of St. Agapit of Pechersk, a free doctor, in the Near Caves (XI)

Saint Reverend Agapit of Pechersk, whose memory we celebrate on June 14 (June 1), a free doctor, a student of one of the founders of the Kiev-Pechersk Monastery, Anthony of the Pechersk, lived in the 11th century and became famous for his gift of healing. Under the guise of medicine, he gave the sick herbs from his food, but he himself relied only on prayer and the mercy of God to heal the sick.

In the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, in the Near and Far (Antonieva and Feodosieva) caves, rest the relics of more than a hundred saints, most of whom are known only by name (there are also nameless ones). Of the total number of Kyiv saints, about thirty received detailed or brief hagiographic narratives in the Kiev-Pechersk Patericon. Among these saints of God are ascetics (recluse monks), miracle workers, icon painters, authors of prayers, and great ascetics of Orthodoxy.

Saint Reverend Agapit of Pechersk, whose memory we celebrate on June 14 (June 1), a free doctor, a student of one of the founders of the Kiev-Pechersk Monastery, Anthony of Pechersk, became famous for his gift of healing.

Blessed Agapit came to the monastery after learning about the spiritual exploits of St. Anthony and his gift of healing. Agapit needed mental healing and hoped to receive it from St. Anthony through tonsure into the monastic rank. He was tonsured a monk and followed with all his heart the life of St. Anthony, guided by his instructions. Agapit was an eyewitness to how Anthony himself served the sick and healed them with prayer, and, hiding the gift given to his prayer, he gave the sick herbs from his food under the guise of medicine. Blessed Agapit saw this and worked for many years, competing with the holy elder in his exploits. If one of the brethren fell ill, the monk left his modest cell, came to the sick brother and served him, raising him, laying him down, carrying him in his arms and constantly praying to God for the salvation of the sick man. So, imitating the exploits of the Monk Anthony, blessed Agapit found himself involved in the same grace: he healed all the sick with his prayer and also gave them herbs and “potions” that he cooked for himself for food. For this he was called a doctor. The rumor about him spread in Kyiv, and many sick people came to him and left healthy.

They turned to St. Rev. for healing. Agapit received not only monks and people from the people, but also boyars and princes, whose ailments seemed incurable to the most skilled doctors of that time.

Saint Agapit healed the Chernigov prince Vladimir Monomakh, the future Grand Duke of Kyiv (1114 - 1125), by sending him a “potion”. The grateful prince himself came to the monastery and wanted to see his healer, but the humble ascetic hid and did not accept the gifts. And when the prince gave him the gold through a messenger, St. Agapit accepted it only on the condition of subsequent distribution to the poor, and asked him to convey his words to the prince: “Tell the one who sent you that everything else he has is someone else’s, and he will not take anything with him when he gives up his life; therefore let him distribute the rest to the poor. For the Lord Himself, who is among the disadvantaged, delivered him from death, but I on my own would not have had any success; and I ask that he not disobey these instructions of mine, so as not to suffer more severely.” After this incident, the prince, not daring to disobey the saint, began to distribute generous alms to the poor.

There is a well-known story of the confrontation between a famous Armenian doctor at that time and St. Agapit in the healing art. More precisely, the experienced doctor, out of envy, opposed the saint. Agapit, while St. Agapit always resisted only death.

The Armenian doctor was famous for his ability to determine the degree of his illness from one type of patient and accurately name the day of his death, mercilessly plunging the person into despair. When one of these doomed people turned to Saint Agapit, the blessed healer with prayer gave him a taste of food from the monastery meal, and the patient recovered. The doctor, fueled by envy, wanted to poison Agapit, but the Lord preserved the monk, and the poison did not work.

When the holy healer himself fell ill, the same Armenian doctor came to him and, after examining him, said that death would follow in three days. At the same time, he vowed to become an Orthodox monk if his prediction did not come true. The monk replied that the Lord had revealed to him that he would call him only in three months.

Saint Agapit died 3 months later, and the Armenian came to the abbot of the Pechersk Monastery with the words “It is true that Agapit is a saint of God,” he said. “I knew well that it was impossible for him to survive three days during his illness, but the Lord gave him three months.” The abbot, having listened to the Armenian, tonsured him as a monk and for a long time instructed the doctor of the body, so that, following the blessed Agapit, he would be skilled in healing his soul. The Armenian labored in a godly manner and, after spending the rest of his life in the same Pechersk monastery, he died a blessed death here.

He followed the angelic life with all his heart

The Holy Lavra triumphs, celebrating the memory of St. Agapit of Pechersk, who healed all the sick with prayer and herbs, for which, in fact, he was nicknamed the free doctor. God gave us great mercy for our salvation - the relics of the saint, resting in the Lavra caves along with the relics of other Pechersk fathers. Anyone who comes to the Lavra tombs with faith receives healing.

Even though your relics are always visible before our eyes, your holy soul with the angelic hosts, with the disembodied faces, with the heavenly powers, standing at the Almighty Throne, rejoices with dignity. Amen.
