The grace of Christ acted most abundantly in the saints even during their lives in healings, intercession of the offended and suffering, in their godly advice. Since “God is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for He's all alive” (Luke 20:38), therefore, the departed holy martyrs, ascetics of faith and the gospel, are now in the abodes of the Son of God in consciousness, and through the Holy Spirit they cover our world with a spiritual gaze and can hear prayerful appeals to them. The Orthodox Church remembers the commandment of the Apostle James: “... pray for each other, to heal: The fervent prayer of the righteous can accomplish much”(James 5:16), therefore, he turns to all the righteous for prayerful support.

A special grace to help people in various needs was given from God to that saint who during his lifetime succeeded in such virtue. For example, Saint John Chrysostom - in enduring persecution without complaint, the Venerable Mary of Egypt - in abstinence and warfare against fornication. The Lord, out of love for the Holy Church, for each of its members, both glorified in heaven and laboring on earth, is ready to incline mercy to the prayers of any saint for any living person, for any forgiveness.

It is useful to read the lives of saints and find examples in them that indicate the special closeness of the saint to the subject of our concern. Then the person praying does not just read the prescribed text, but sees the image of the saint himself behind its lines, his prayer becomes more sincere and fervent. Why do saints read prayers?

Why is this? Where do the ministers of the Church get such grace and strength? Why are their prayers so holy and accessible to God? This is whose grace flows from the lips of the ministers of the Church when they perform church prayers, and this is whose power comes from their right hand when they bless those praying in the name of God. This is why the prayers of the servants of the Church are holy and accessible to God: in their person the Son of God Himself prays to His God. So, Christians, pray unceasingly, but unite your prayers with the prayers of the ministers of the Church; ask them to always pray for you with you: then you will receive all mercy from God, then all your petitions will be fulfilled, even for salvation; not we, the ministers of the Church, praying for you and for you, but Christ, our true God, through the prayers of His Most Pure Mother and all the saints, will save and have mercy on you.

The power of the prayers of the ministers of the Church is based on the power of the Church itself, on the fact that church prayer is the true path to salvation, of course, for those who seek salvation and strive for it by purifying their hearts. Canonical prayers.

You can easily find canonical prayers, or so-called “ready-made prayers” for all occasions, in any Prayer Book. The canonical collections of prayers are arranged very conveniently: they contain Morning and Evening prayers, prayers to the Lord, prayers to the Mother of God and prayers to the saints. Some expanded Prayer Books also contain akathists, troparia, kontakia and magnifications for the Feasts of the Lord, the feasts of the Mother of God, saints and icons of the Mother of God. How to use the Prayer Book? Of course, you can simply find this or that prayer in the table of contents: as a rule, it is immediately clear from the headings for what occasion the prayer is intended (“for the living,” “for the dead,” “for illnesses,” “for fear,” etc.). d.).

But this is probably not the most important thing. If we summarize the entire centuries-old experience of the Orthodox Church, in essence, it will immediately become obvious that you can pray to any saint, in front of any icon, as long as your prayer comes from the heart!

We have a rich selection of prayers that were suffered by ascetics of the faith and born in them by the Holy Spirit. It is important to find and know a sufficient number of them in order to find the appropriate prayers at the right time. The point is to learn by heart a sufficient number of significant passages from the psalms or from the prayers of the saints; Each of us is more sensitive to one passage or another. Mark for yourself those passages that touch you deeply, that are meaningful to you, that express something - about sin, or about bliss in God, or about struggle - that you already know from experience. The word “create” is clearly derived from the word “creation”, that is, creation, creation; “create” means “create, create.” And “imam” is an old version of the word “I have,” and they have the same root. Only after you understand the meaning of the prayer texts can you begin to pray directly, otherwise your appeal to higher powers will be just a set of incomprehensible words for you. And, unfortunately, one cannot expect any effect from such a request.

Quite often you can hear the following question: is it possible to pray in your own words? Of course you can! After all, we are all very different. It is easier for some to read “ready-made prayers,” while others are simply not currently able to fully understand the meaning of the canonical prayers, and therefore cannot use them.

Every person has the right to pray in his own words, and there are many examples of this. We see this in church families when small children, imitating praying adults, raise their hands up, cross themselves, perhaps clumsily, take some books, babble some words.
