Turn on the TV over the network. How to connect your TV to the Internet: step-by-step instructions

I hesitated for a long time and could not understand whether it was necessary to write about how to connect a Samsung Smart TV to the Internet via Wi-Fi, and whether such material would be useful to the reader. After all, in fact, there is nothing complicated about it, and I didn’t want to waste my time unwisely, without benefit and return. By chance, I came across a similar question on one of the FAQ (question-answer) web services, where one of the participants, about two weeks ago, asked about how to connect Smart TV to the Internet, but he never received an answer . This became a turning point, I realized that people were looking for an answer to this question and decided to write this post.

Let me start with the fact that you can connect your TV to the Internet via a Wi-Fi router or via a direct connection. That is, just plug the cable from the Internet provider into the Ethernet port of the TV. However, a direct connection is not suitable for all types of providers, and in my opinion, with a router it is much more convenient, because this way you can manage your home network.

In turn, you can connect your TV to the Internet from a Wi-Fi router either via a LAN cable (twisted pair) or via a wireless Wi-Fi network. In this article we will look at connecting a Samsung Smart TV via a wireless Wi-Fi network, and I already mentioned that in one of the publications.

If you will connect Smart TV to the Internet using a LAN cable, I recommend purchasing a UTP-5e patch cord or crimping the LAN cable yourself. If you don’t have crimpers in your household (pliers for crimping RJ-45 connectors and twisted pair cables), then you can find a crimping scheme and a method for creating a patch cord without a special tool.

What you need to know before connecting your TV to Wi-Fi.

If you don’t know the specifics of Wi-Fi technology, I recommend it. Looking ahead, I’d like to say that if you observe this on the wireless network, then (instructions for operation) and switch to a less busy channel. By the way, if your TV does not have a built-in Wi-Fi adapter, then you can buy an external wireless adapter and create a connection through it. Keep in mind that USB adapter Wi-Fi must be compatible with your TV model.

Connecting via Wi-Fi is very convenient because it eliminates the need for wires under your feet, but when choosing this type of connection, you may experience discomfort when playing online video on a SMART TV in the form of freezing and interruptions. But for the most part it depends not only on wireless technology, but also on the speed of the Internet connection. Of course, other things being equal, the speed and stability of the signal will be better over twisted pair. But technology does not stand still and wireless standards are constantly gaining momentum. However, in this case, digital devices will also have to be changed to those that support these standards.

As I have already said, comfortable viewing of online videos without interruptions depends on a number of conditions. For example, on the speed of your tariff plan, router speed in the radio channel, wireless signal quality, and so on. In general, the quality of data transmission in Wi-Fi technology still depends on the power of the antenna, the influence of interference and the presence of obstacles. So, if you want a stable connection over a Wi-Fi radio channel and comfortably watch online videos, then all this needs to be taken into account.

Connecting the TV to the Internet via Wi-Fi.

It is assumed that you already have home network, and for those who don’t know or there are publications on the blog. First of all, check the Internet connection settings on your Smart TV. To do this, log in "Menu""Net""Network Status" and click on the button "IP Settings". The IP and DNS parameters must be in "Receive automatically". You should also make sure that Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is enabled on your router.

Important!!! A TV that is connected to the router via a cable will begin setting up the connection via the cable, but if the cable is not connected, then SMART TV will automatically start setting up via a wireless Wi-Fi connection.

If the Wi-Fi network is configured, then feel free to start setting up the Internet connection on the TV. As an example, I will show you how to configure it on a Samsung UE40ES 6570WW TV (about the markings of Samsung 2012 and 2013 models). I think that using this principle you can set up an Internet connection on any other Samsung model. So, let's get to the point.

Click the button "Menu" on the remote control and in the navigation window that appears, select the section "Net". You need to select an item from the list "Network Settings".

The first step is to set up a wireless network using the internal LAN adapter. Before you press the button "Start" To search for a Wi-Fi router, make sure that the router is turned on, configured and has Internet access.

A search and compilation of a list of routers in the Wi-Fi network is in progress.

The second step will display the router search results. The resulting list may include neighboring Wi-Fi networks. You need to select your router and press the button "Further".

In the third step, you need to enter the security key. Enter the key that you specified to protect your wireless network when setting up the router. The password will be identical to the one set on your router and should not be less than eight characters.

If everything was done correctly and the Wi-Fi network is stable, a wireless connection will be established.

Now you can call the built-in web browser because the Internet access for Smart TV is open. But if the wireless connection with Wi-Fi router If you couldn’t install it and the access password was entered correctly, then try changing the settings.

The TV does not connect to the Wi-Fi router.

It is highly likely that your home network is experiencing problems with the DHCP protocol and you are receiving a message that a wireless network connection could not be established.

In the administrative panel of your Wi-Fi router, disable the DHCP server function and go to “IP Settings” on the TV. Here you need to change the settings from “Receive automatically” to “Enter manually”. Now you need to enter manual settings for the network connection in accordance with the parameters of your router.

For example, if the gateway address of the router 192.168.1.1 , then in the network connection settings you need to specify the following values:

IP address: 192.168.1.103 (maybe 192.168.1.104; 192.168.1.105 and so on)
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.1
DNS Server: 8.8.8.8 (or 192.168.1.1)

You can register a public server from Google 8.8.8.8 in the DNS server; 8.8.4.4 or gateway parameters 192.168.1.1. Now try connecting to the Internet again. After this, the connection should be established.

Very often, the TV manually finds the Wi-Fi router and connects to the Internet. Now you need to fix problems with DHCP so that all devices (laptop, tablet) automatically gain access to the Internet. For example, you can reserve an IP address for each device in a router based on its MAC address. This way you can avoid DHCP conflicts and all devices will receive the same IP address every time they connect.

If the problem with connecting the TV to the wireless network of the Wi-Fi router could not be solved or some operational problems arise, then try the methods described in practice .

By the way, if you are interested, there is an informative article on this topic on our website. That's all.

Hello! If I understand you correctly, then you need to enter the password not for the router, but for the Wi-Fi network.

    2019-12-07T19:55:18+00:00

Good evening! Please tell me when I enter the password from the router on the TV, I can’t continue the function! Something happened to the on-screen keyboard!

    2018-10-05T09:57:03+00:00

Do you connect the TV directly or through a router? Give more information.

    2018-10-04T21:22:21+00:00

I have problems with the ping gateway..what should I do?

    2017-01-17T13:35:26+00:00

No. But try it and share the results with us.

    2017-01-17T13:19:23+00:00

But in the settings I saw a fad about profiles - maybe somehow it’s possible in different profiles?

    2017-01-17T08:27:33+00:00

No. When you insert a LAN cable into an Ethernet port, the TV is automatically prepared for network setup using this type of connection. If there is no cable in the port, the TV automatically switches to wireless network connection mode.

    2017-01-17T07:17:13+00:00

Or you can connect to wi-fi if the TV is connected via wire. The networks are different.

    2017-01-06T09:09:37+00:00

    It's OK. Good luck!

    2017-01-05T19:33:52+00:00

Thank you! I didn’t think to enable “automatically obtain an IP address”!

    2016-12-14T13:00:12+00:00

Maybe it's asking for a software update via USB. If you can, take a photo and attach it to the comment to understand what the problem is.

    2016-12-14T12:55:36+00:00

Hello. I don’t understand, he’s asking for some kind of flash drive (what does this mean? I have Wi-Fi at home.

    2016-11-25T21:14:03+00:00

If you did everything described in the article about connection problems (link to it in the last block with a yellow marker), then most likely the Wi-Fi module has failed. You need to test it or contact a service center. Is there a connection via LAN cable?

    2016-11-25T18:36:51+00:00

Hello, please tell me. The Samsung ks 7500 TV flatly refuses to connect to the Wi-Fi network. Despite the fact that all other equipment in the house is connected. I tried everything and turned the router on and off and distributed the Internet through the phone, but all in vain. What to do?

    2016-11-19T13:06:32+00:00

Hello! When turned on, the smart hub (Samsung UE37ES 6307) constantly asks for a password. It's so inconvenient. Tell me what needs to be done so as not to enter the password every time. Thank you!

    2016-11-19T11:25:47+00:00

When setting up the TV it asks for an adapter, but why? If you connect via a wi-fi router via cable? Smart itself works, we watch movies through applications, but I would like to get on the Internet to watch movies through some browser....

    2016-11-14T07:47:16+00:00

Angelina tell me what you did. I have the same problem. I followed his link and didn’t understand anything. You always have to enter the password every time you turn on the TV.

    2016-10-21T12:09:56+00:00

You probably mean a Wi-Fi adapter? Of course you can buy it. Please note that the adapter must be compatible with your TV model.

    2016-10-19T21:57:03+00:00

Please tell me. If the TV asks for a USB flash drive to connect to Wi-Fi. And this flash drive was lost. What is it even called? Is it possible to buy it separately? I don't know how to correctly write what it's called. I hope you got what I meant.

    2016-10-19T09:17:23+00:00

Try to immediately enable the Wi-Fi Direct function on your smartphone / tablet, and only then on the TV “Wi-Fi Direct Connection”.

    2016-10-19T08:04:06+00:00

Please tell me I have a Samsung model ue46es6577u, I go to the network settings. Direct Wi-Fi connection says that the function is not available why?

    2016-10-03T17:57:49+00:00

If in doubt, you can reset it to factory settings and set it up with your ISP and wireless network. With the rest of the default settings everything should work. You do not need to enable any specialized settings for this. P.S. What program are you using as a media server?

    2016-10-03T17:08:30+00:00

TV ue32f 4500 turned off the firewall, dlna looks like there is also a laptop (now broken) in short, I used to turn on the laptop, set it to download a movie in the zone and on TV I could already watch it (the laptop is also via Wi-Fi), but even then it was not friends with the computer . There is another possibility that there is something wrong in the router settings. Thank you in advance.

    2016-10-02T09:30:01+00:00

This model is Samsung UE-32J4500AK (the letter must be specified). Since I don’t know the model for sure, I can’t say with certainty whether the TV supports the DLNA function. If yes, then make sure that the Firewall on your computer is not blocking access.

I was just thinking that I already wrote about connecting a TV to the World Wide Web. But I’ll now write about how to access the Internet from an LG TV that has the Smart TV function. Perhaps this article may seem too simple and unnecessary to some. But I am sure that many will find it useful.

Almost from all TVs that can connect to the Internet and have the Smart TV function, you can visit websites, log into social networks, read Twitter, etc. Yes, yes, even VKontakte can be accessed from the TV while lying on the couch. Here they are – technologies :)

I will write this article using the example of an LG TV (model LG 32LN575U, but that doesn't matter).

A few words about the browser

The browser built into LG TVs is quite decent. It can even play Flash. But he is there to play banners, nothing more. You can launch a video on some website, or a game on a social network. But, most likely, after a while an error will appear: , or something like that.

Navigation, functionality, and browser speed are, as I already wrote, at a decent level. Like for TV.

How to control Internet surfing from TV?

You can control it using the remote control that was included. But this is not very convenient. Then I remembered surfing the Internet from a regular mobile phone, which has buttons (oh, nostalgia 🙂). Controlling the TV browser from the remote control is pretty much the same.

It is best, of course, to connect a keyboard and mouse to the TV. Better yet, a wireless keyboard and mouse. Such control will be the most convenient. If you don’t have these devices, you can control the TV browser from your phone or tablet. Which works on Android, or iOS.

You can also buy a branded LG Magic Remote. From which it will be very convenient to control website viewing. At least it seems so to me :) The last two methods are only suitable for LG TVs.

Connecting your TV to the Internet

It is clear that in order to view websites via Smart TV, the TV itself must be connected to the Internet. You can do it via cable, or you can do it via Wi-Fi, if possible. I wrote more about connection in separate articles:

If everything is fine with the connection, then you can proceed to launch the browser and visit sites.

We visit websites from an LG TV (Smart TV)

To get started, go to Smart TV (by pressing the special blue button on the remote control). Then, at the bottom, select and launch the browser” Internet“.

Please note that on home page Smart TV, the icon that displays the status of the Internet connection, should be green. This means that the Internet is working and you can continue.

After launching the browser, you can immediately click on the address bar and use the keyboard to enter the address of the site you want to visit. Or, ask a search query. To confirm the transition to the address, click the button Go on the virtual keyboard, or using the cursor, select one of the options that pop up below.

A website or search results will open, which you can view, follow links, etc. Everything is like on a computer.

In the lower right corner, “ Mini TV“. You can browse websites and watch TV at the same time. If this window bothers you, you can close it. Hover your cursor over it and click on the cross that appears. To return “Mini TV”, click on the button in the form of a TV on the top control panel.

You can open many tabs at the same time. Just click on the green cross to open another tab. In this tab, by default, a panel opens that displays thumbnails of the pages of the most visited sites. A bit higher (below the address bar), the bookmarks panel is displayed.

When you have opened a site and want to bookmark it, just click on the corresponding button, which I showed in the screenshot below.

In order to open browser settings, history, bookmark manager and help, just click on the corresponding button and select the desired item. You can also enable full screen viewing, zoom in, and close the browser.

In the settings, you can select the start page, search engine by default, enable permanent display of the bookmarks bar, disable Flash, etc.

I just want to give you one piece of advice. I have already seen articles on the Internet several times that a vulnerability was discovered in Smart TV, albeit on Samsung TVs. The data that was entered on the TV could get to the attackers. I now have to enter passwords for different sites, and what’s even worse, payment information.

I hope this vulnerability has been fixed now. But, do not forget that Smart TV on any TV is new and a little more raw technology. So, for now, it’s better not to pay for various services through the TV, and not to enter your payment information. For this, it is better to use a computer.

If you look at the TVs that are on the market now, most of them support the Smart TV function. LG has webOS, Samsung has its own Smart system, Philips and Sony run Android TV. There are, of course, other manufacturers, but they are less popular. What I mean is that Smart TVs themselves are primarily an additional source of income for manufacturers (through the sale of additional accessories) and a good marketing move.

There are also cool features for the user. You can go online, watch videos on YouTube, read the news, watch the weather, etc. But here you still need to calculate what is more profitable: buy a TV without Smart TV and an attachment to it, or pay more for Smart functions. Since a regular Android box can make your TV more SMART than a built-in system. But today is not about that.

Of all the TVs that have Smart TV features, many models come without a built-in Wi-Fi receiver. True, in 2017 almost all models already have a built-in receiver. And if you don’t connect the Internet to the TV, then all these Smart functions on it are simply useless. Yes, all models definitely have a LAN port that allows you to connect to the Internet via cable. But you must admit, this is very inconvenient. You need to lay a network cable from the router to the TV.

And all these Smart TVs that do not have a Wi-Fi module are another insidious plan of the manufacturers. After all, you could insert this wireless module and make the TV a couple of dollars more expensive. What for? If we can then sell branded Wi-Fi adapters for $100 each :) And even now these branded Wi-Fi adapters for Samsung, LG, Philips TVs are very difficult to find. They are simply not on sale. But there are TVs, and their users want to connect to the Internet via Wi-Fi.

If you have a Smart TV without built-in Wi-Fi, and you want to connect it to the Internet via a wireless network, then there are the following options:

  • First, I advise you to look at the characteristics of your TV on the official website. Perhaps your TV still has Wi-Fi and can be connected to a wireless network. It might be useful: , and a separate one. If there is no built-in receiver, then you can search and buy a branded external USB adapter.
  • The second method is to buy a regular Wi-Fi adapter from D-Link, TP-Link, etc., and flash its firmware to work with the TV. Honestly, I can’t even imagine how all this is stitched and works, but I saw such information on the Internet. This is a method for those who are not looking for easy ways.
  • Well, the third option, which I will discuss in more detail below in the article, is to buy a regular, inexpensive Wi-Fi router or repeater and configure it as an adapter for a TV without Wi-Fi.

Let's look at the third option in more detail.

Wi-Fi adapter from a router for Smart TV without a built-in Wi-Fi module

Everything is very simple. Almost all modern routers can operate in different modes: amplifier (repeater), access point, adapter, wireless bridge. I wrote about this in more detail in the article:. This scheme works something like this:

  • We buy a router. Perhaps you have some old one. You can even have an inexpensive model. good and budget options Totolink and Netis have them. Other manufacturers will also be suitable.
  • We set it up in adapter mode. If there is such a mode, then the router will receive the Internet from your main Wi-Fi network and transmit it to the TV via a network cable. Bridge or network amplifier mode is also suitable. True, in this case the router will further strengthen your wireless network.
  • We connect our Smart TV to the router via a network cable.
  • The Internet on the TV works via Wi-Fi.

It looks something like this:

You can also use a regular adapter that has at least one LAN port. And it is available on almost all models.

What's the result: A router or repeater can be bought in almost every store. Compared to branded Wi-Fi receivers for LG, Samsung TVs, etc. And it will be cheaper this way (though it depends on which router you choose), since the price of original adapters is very high.

I wrote about setting up different operating modes on different routers in the article:. If you have a model from some other manufacturer, then you can look for setup instructions through the search on our website. Or ask in the comments.

Here is a solution for Smart TVs without built-in Wi-Fi. Without a doubt that The best decision This is the original receiver. But since they are practically not on sale and their prices are very high, you can use such a scheme. What do you think about it? Write in the comments!

Modern plasma and LCD TVs with Internet access do more than just attract our attention in store windows. Today they are a bestseller on the market for such devices.

The emergence of smart TV technology

The most creative users strive to purchase this symbiosis of TV and PC. Work with the Internet environment is ensured by the now popular Smart technology, mastered by the main TV manufacturers (the list of the best-selling models in 2014 will be presented below). The pioneer in its development was Samsung. It was with her light hand that the term “Smart technology” became generally accepted. Samsung's proprietary operating system is called Tizen.

Currently, almost all new models from a number of manufacturers (Philips, Toshiba, LG) contain basic equipment that supports Smart TV.

Equipment manufacturing companies and their operating systems

Each corporation develops its own engineering solutions, offering the buyer TVs with Internet access and 3D, working with its own software.

For example, LG is developing the WebOS operating system (OS) purchased from Hewlett-Packard. This open source system is promising for developing new applications.

Internet access via the TV is made through a special LAN port via a Wi-Fi connection to the router or using WPS, One Foot Connection, Plug & Access technologies. For the successful operation of a Smart TV, a sufficient information transfer speed (from 10 to 20 Mbit/s) is important.

Smart TVs are now even more advanced

Users of regular TV receivers will probably ask: “TVs with Internet access - what is it?” The functions of such devices are an order of magnitude greater than those of a conventional TV receiver. This technology offers a new level of convenience for the consumer. Indeed, using entertainment Internet resources on a wide screen while relaxing on a comfortable sofa is clearly more convenient than, say, using a laptop on the same sofa. But rushing after smartphones to exploit the media capabilities of the World Wide Web, new TVs have not yet become budget devices.

Why do modern TV viewers prefer them? Hybrid technology, combining the media capabilities of a PC and the current offerings of modern digital television, has caused a breakthrough in the seemingly stable TV market. Users of new devices receive obvious convenience and benefits.

Indeed, televisions with Internet access are not tied to the hourly TV program. Users find themselves in an advantageous position. Internet media resources provide them with the opportunity to get the information they need at any time convenient for them, as well as enjoy watching films or music selected to their taste.

Obvious conveniences new TVs provide to amateurs social networks. They can alternately communicate with friends and discuss the video resources they are watching. Internet access through a TV equipped with a variety of interactive applications is multifunctional.

TVs with Internet access. Basic Concepts

Since Smart devices connect to the Internet and local networks, users should naturally have an understanding of the operating principles of modern gadgets.

Let's start with brief description Smart TV. This technology integrates television digital interactive service with Internet navigation capabilities. Thus, the TV has become “smart”. To do this, like a smartphone, it was given functions characteristic of a computer, providing it with its own operating system and applications. Accordingly, the operation of such a device is regulated by special standards:

- DLNA. Organizes the network connection of PCs, Smart TVs, mobile devices to the Internet via a modem or router. In this case, content recorded on one of the connected devices is played on another connected to it on the same network.

- Wi-Fi standard. It is also called the wireless standard. Internet-connected TVs use this standard either through a special built-in unit or through a USB adapter that supports Wi-Fi.

- Ethernet. Defines the wired connection of devices to the local network. At the same time, good performance indicators, noise immunity, and reliability are ensured.

- IPTV standard. This is an Internet TV protocol.

- HbbTV standard (European). Regulates the transmission of multimedia information over all kinds of communication lines, including Wi-Fi (broadband Internet connection, satellite, cable, terrestrial channels).

We also consider it correct to recall the interpretation of the term “broadband” (providing continuous high-speed downloading and uploading of data). This is a necessary way to connect a Smart TV to the World Wide Web.

Widgets - a convenient TV interface

Special programs turn TVs with Internet access into excellent navigators. A widget is a special graphic module that connects the user to a specific streaming video or media. For example, to exchange rates or to a TV channel. It should also be noted that the widget does not require large amounts of memory from the television device. How is this achieved? The graphical shell is placed by the manufacturer in the Smart TV. At the same time software is located and, accordingly, works in the cloud.

Social networks, Skype

Modern manufacturers of this miracle of technology initially install Twitter, Facebook, and Google Talk widgets on their models (often they are combined in the Social TV menu item). Were not offended by new technology and top TV channels that follow the spirit of the times and have set up their own information portals on the World Wide Web, visualized with individual widgets.

TVs with Internet access, equipped with the popular Skype program, also perform the popular video calling function.

TV manufacturing companies and interface features

Now, having turned on the required widget, you can watch new clips on YouTube or check the weather forecast without leaving the TV.

Various manufacturers offer their own widgets, so we recommend that buyers choose a manufacturer based on personal tastes. For lovers of social networks, Samsung is more suitable. LG TV provides excellent viewing of collections of films and TV shows (Internet access is provided through the appropriate widgets). If you are serious about online trading, then Philips will allow you to use the international eBay auction online, where trading takes place across national borders.

It should be noted that the most popular widgets are provided to users on a paid basis.

Network capabilities of Smart TV

To further integrate television with the Internet, with functionality as close as possible to a PC, Google, Intel, Sony, and Logitech created the universal Google TV platform. Thanks to her, having connected to Google service, automatically receive access to YouTube; any TVs with Internet access LG and Samsung Google TV also support. The Chrome browser and Adobe Flash allow you to launch and enjoy games right there, right on Internet pages.

The Google TV platform can be built into the TV itself. Naturally, such a technique is less expensive, but free navigation on the Internet is worth it! You can pay for versatility. TVs with Internet access will provide worthy competition to PCs (they are presented in a wide range at M.Video and other retail chains).

User opinions

There are a number of Russian publications with sales ratings in the household appliances segment under consideration. At the same time, a thoughtful buyer is, of course, interested not in advertising, but in the sales practices of retail chains. The way users characterize their TVs with Internet access is also of interest. Reviews should be read, paying attention to functionality, stability, and shortcomings.

At the end of 2014, for example, the Russian federal-level retail chains Saturn and Media Markt most actively sold three models of Smart TVs with a diagonal of 46-47 inches. In this article we will limit ourselves to this rating. The price of Smart TVs with large screens, as you understand, is higher.

The Philips 47PFL6057T TV offers users 3D images and demonstration of Internet resources via a wired connection, as well as via Wi-Fi. It can interact with mobile gadgets. The device can work with Skype when a video camera is connected to the USB connector. The stereo image is output at a frequency of 600 Hz according to polar technology. 2D to 3D conversion is expected.

The UE 46ES5507 TV is positioned in the fifth line of TV equipment from Samsung. Its functionality can be expanded by purchasing applications from the Samsung Apps online store. Connects to Wi-Fi using an external adapter. Supports Wi-Di, DLNA technologies. Works with Skype.

The Toshiba 46ML963 TV connects to the Internet via wired Ethernet technology and wireless Wi-Fi. It shows users a 3D image and also supports image transformation from 2D to 3D. The device is capable of recording to a drive that is connected to a USB connector.

SMART - TV for the living room

Let us briefly describe other TVs with Internet access. Reviews for devices with a diagonal of more than 50 inches are impressive. Typically, equipment of this size and larger is important element living room. Ideally, this is a family cinema with a convenient and friendly interface. By the way, almost all TVs with Internet access meet these criteria (2014 rating). When purchasing, the user is especially interested in the following:

Convenient and functional remote control with keyboard;

Powerful internet browser;

What widgets are initially available (including Skype, social networks);

Easy installation of additional widgets (carried out through the company’s online store);

Is there a built-in webcam?

Is it convenient to work with Wi-Fi (is it fast and convenient to restore such a connection);

Availability of USB outputs;

Working in movie search request mode (Your Video function).

Europeans' opinion. Best SMART TV of 2014

According to the European association of magazines EISA, specializing in the field of video and audio (which includes fifty publications from 20 countries), a clear leader was identified among Internet TVs in 2014. It was a 55-inch quad-core SMART TV Samsung UE55F8000. An impressive number of widgets are easily and clearly managed by the Smart Hub service. Samsung UE55F8000 is controlled using a video camera, remote control, and voice.

Users note that the 3D function works perfectly. According to reviews, the image looks especially impressive if you look at it in the dark: depth and texture appear. One cannot but rejoice at the volumetric and high-quality sound. Auto-adjusting screen brightness works well.

Perspective - gaming capabilities of smart TVs

In 2016, according to analysts at IHS iSuppli, the gaming capabilities of Internet-connected TVs will create significant competition for console applications. It is expected that profits in this market segment will reach 1.6 billion US dollars, and the number of units of equipment operating at consumers will be 800 million. SMART TVs represent a dynamically growing gaming market and are becoming attractive platforms for leading game companies.

Users of Samsung smart TVs prefer the games Catapult King, Slingshot Racing, Air Attack, Mini Motor Racing.

Conclusion

The advantages of TVs with Internet access are obvious. However, there is a factor hindering their advancement in the market. This is the price.

But the modern World Wide Web, interactive TV services, as well as developments by corporations in the field of Smart TV are already determining increased consumer demand for these household appliances. Cisco analysts claim that already in 2015, every tenth family will use Smart TVs, and by 2018, the share of “smart TVs” will amount to more than a quarter of the entire market - 26.8%.

This will change the status of television, which will no longer be positioned as a monopolist in the TV market of media resources and will be forced to compete for viewers with many other electronic resources.

Currently, “smart TVs” are gaining their share of the Internet market, actively competing with PCs and tablets.

We are gradually moving into the world of Internet of things, where every gadget is able to connect to the global network. TVs are no exception. Depending on the model, you can connect to the network directly via cable using a router or set-top box. Setting up is easy. You can cope with it yourself without the help of specialists.

What TVs can be connected to the Internet?

First of all, of course, these are devices with the Smart TV function or its equivalent. This is a special integration technology that allows you to use various online functions directly on your TV. If the documentation indicates support for Smart TV, then your TV can be guaranteed to be connected to the network. Typically this is done directly or via Wi-Fi. Carefully study the technical manual, and if in doubt, we recommend that you find your TV in an online store and make sure that this technology is supported.

You can also connect to the Internet and TV without this function. However, you will need a special TV set-top box. An HDMI cable is used as a connection. This allows you to turn any TV into a “smart” one, even without a LAN port or built-in Wi-Fi. We will talk about the intricacies of setting up a TV set-top box later.

What is required to connect

Before starting the procedure, you need to make sure that you have a few things. This list includes:

  • Internet access point and router, if you plan to use the latter;
  • LAN cable (for direct connection);
  • instructions for TV;
  • knowledge of your own IP address (may be needed during setup).

Connection methods

Direct connection via cable

The method assumes that the design has a built-in LAN input. Then you need to take a cable from your provider and insert it into the appropriate port. If the provider “distributes” a dynamic IP, no manipulations on the part of the user are needed. The TV will automatically receive its IP, and you will be able to open all Internet services.

If you are provided with a static IP, then set the settings manually. To do this, follow the instructions:

Now you can check the functionality of the services, since the Internet should work.

Via router

In most apartments and houses, the home network is organized using a router. It allows you to connect several devices to the network: computer, TV, laptop, and so on. Depending on the type of router, connect the TV via cable or Wi-Fi.

By cable

The method requires you to take the following steps:

If problems arise, you can try updating the firmware of the router or the TV itself.

Via Wi-Fi

If you don't want to bother with wires, you can use a wireless connection. Your TV must have a built-in Wi-Fi module. To activate it, follow the instructions:

Fast and convenient. Please note that some TVs support WPS technology, thanks to which you do not have to enter an access password.

What to do if there is no Wi-Fi module?

In stores you can buy special Wi-Fi adapters that will allow you to connect your TV to a wireless network. There is only one condition - the device must have a USB input. Wi-Fi adapters are visually similar to a flash drive, but they are relatively affordable. For home use it is not necessary to buy top models.

Please note that for specific TVs there is a list of compatible adapters. As a rule, they are created by the TV manufacturer. Computer models are often incompatible. The most popular gadgets include LG AN-WF100, AN-WF500, Samsung WIS12ABGNX/NWT and PhilIPs PTA128/00.

We use WPS

This technique will bypass the entry of authorization data.

Via PC or laptop

Users can also connect the TV to a personal computer or laptop. In this case, the device can operate in two modes:

  • Repeat image. The TV will act as a regular screen. You can use a browser or watch movies through it, but control will be carried out via a PC/laptop. It is enough to connect the device via HDMI or VGA.
  • Reading data from a computer. When organizing a local network, you can open access to data on your computer. This allows you to watch movies or listen to music stored on your computer's hard drive.

The last point is an extremely convenient option if you do not want to watch movies via the Internet due to low speed. You can download them to your computer, and then watch them directly from the HDD without the help of a flash drive.

The setup details depend on the specific model, but in general you need to follow a number of steps:

  • make sure that the TV is connected to your home local network (if using a router) or connected directly to the PC;
  • you need to download and install the media server on your computer;
  • add files to share and open them on your TV.

One of the most popular programs is " Home media server" You can download it for free online. Let's look at an example of setting up this software:

Try Plex, Serviio, Kodi as a media server. Each option has its pros and cons.

Via TV set-top box

Many providers offer to purchase an additional set-top box. It already has built-in services for watching TV, a browser and home theater. Essentially this is an analogue of SmartTV. The set-top box connects to the router via a LAN cable or Wi-Fi, and to the TV via HDMI. IP settings, if necessary, are already made in the sections of the set-top box itself.

You can also buy an Android console yourself. It is an analogue of a mobile phone, but with a redesigned interface for a large screen. You can download applications from the Play Market and use them from your TV. Messengers, Skype, mail and more will be available directly from TV.

Via PLC adapter

If you have a standard modem without Wi-Fi support and an STB receiver, then the connection can be made via an Ethernet cable. But this is not always practical if the wire has nowhere to hide. An alternative solution is a PLC adapter. This is a special device that transmits a useful signal through a standard electrical network. Connection via this method offered by Rostelecom, Beeline and other companies.

The latest adapters support data transfer rates of up to 1 gigabit per second. Adapters must be inserted directly into the outlet, bypassing adapters and devices uninterruptible power supply. This will provide a better signal. The adapter and TV can be connected directly via Ethernet.
